That's nice to hear from Barton, high praise from him which is not his usual, just makes you wonder what Page is looking at, it's obvious to say but the next move is going to be important for Collins and not sure Stoke would be a good move the way they are currently . It certainly doesn't make me wonder that. Who would you drop to accomodate him? Barton may be talking up Collins now that he wants to sell him but only a short time ago, he was talking down his abilities and international hopes. We don't need to drop anyone, we can pick as many as we like

Well, if it's £4m then we are not the play-off Championship club!!

Well, if it's £4m then we are not the play-off Championship club!! I think it rules out most Championship clubs. I think Barton knows that. Even relegated clubs, Southampton (no), Leeds (no), Leicester (maybe), Everton (maybe), Forest (no). He'll be three years older than Scott Twine when Twine got his move as well. I'd repost my earlier comment doubting he'll get a move til next January at earliest but don't want to bore y'all!

I get your point about Barton, but from what I have seen of Collins he looks to have a bit more than the basic skills of Burns as an example.

On the move it seems. Selfishly hoping he finds his way to Wrexham but he could be in the Championship with Bolton next season if he goes there.
In contention for a call-up?
Bristol Rovers must be regretting not cashing in in summer.

Not sure what his assists are like but 5 goals in 36 games this season.

Not sure what his assists are like but 5 goals in 36 games this season. 8 assists and 2nd in League 1, but agree it's not a great return and he needs to return to his form from the previous 2 seasons if he's to be considered. 26 years old though so it's not beyond him at this point, his next move could be pivotal.

Do we know why a move didn't materialise in the summer? Sounded like they were keen to get a tidy fee for him, did they just ask for too much?

Due in Bolton today for medical. Fee around 750k. Nowhere near the figures that were being thrown around last season, a good deal for Bolton though!

He's been pretty poor this season and we really should have cashed in on him last season.
IMO, should be a fair distance off a call-up for you.

Yeah, another one to keep an eye on but he plays in a position where we currently have much better options. If we think of the front three options, he's behind Moore, Johnson, James, Wilson, Brooks, Ramsey, Broadhead, and even the likes of Burns, Matondo, Cullen, Bradshaw and Sorba Thomas I'd imagine

His assists figure is very impressive 11, with 8 goals. He's played as a right winger, left winger as well as centre forwards. Versatile. He was League One player of the season last year, so he should be knocking on the door of an international callup. Is he a natural 9 in the Moore mould I wonder? If not, what sort of player is he? www.skysports.com/watch/video/13106118/bolton-wanderers-5-2-reading-championship-highlightsLovely key pass for the fourth goal, and hit the inside of the post. Looks like an all-rounder.

He was League One Player of the Season last year, but I seem to remember his goals and assists (and performances in general) completely dried up in the second half, but his Messi like numbers in the first half allowed him to come out on top. He's been very quiet in large spells this season including when he first joined Bolton. But he seems to be settled now and has joined a very good side, so hopefully he can kick on and do it at Championship level next year.

You may well be right, but I've looked at the highlights of the games in which he's scored and assisted and he's a lot more rounded as a player than just a goal getter. Some lovely crosses and touches in and around the box, as well as some good finishes. That suggests a player with a high ceiling. But as you say, perhaps the consistency isn't there yet. Evatt is quoted as saying he typically gets the best out of players signed in January in their first full season, suggesting that he's struggled to adjust to Bolton's style of play. Certainly one to keep an eye on, as we aren't exactly blessed with strikers at the moment.

It would be really good to see if Collins and Sheehan can cut the mustard at Championship level and establish themselves as contenders for the starting line up or at least more confident replacement. The central striker and defensive midfield could both do with some competition.

Yeah, he’s definitely not just a goalscorer, but from what I’ve read he does tend to go for long spells of being very quiet in games, and not just on the goalscoring front. He’s clearly very good technically, but not sure he could play the no. 9 role - more of a second striker / wide forward from what I’ve seen. He seems to be very similar in style to Broadhead, but perhaps not quite as good, which is why I can’t see much of a role for him with us. He’s 27 next month too, so hardly an up and comer with lots of room for improvement

It's tough to categorise Collins from what I've seen so far, he's not a target man or even a natural striker. I would liken him in maverick style, if not obviously in ability, to Jack Grealish, in that he tends to drift anywhere across the frontline, out wide and occasionally coming deep to pick up the ball. A lot of forward play goes through him. I think he is predominantly a creator who can also score some cracking individual goals. I'm not sure he has quiet spells, he always seems to be involved and wanting the ball but he is a risk taker who likes to try those little flicks and back heels which can open up defences when they come off, but when they don't the supporters are quick to be critical and it seems as though he has had an unproductive game. He needs a decent level of confidence to keep trying his tricks. He did get some early fan vitriol, given a relatively high transfer fee for L1, which was a bit premature, but I think the fan base now has accepted that he will rarely play the simple pass and appreciate that feature of his play now. I really like him, and like Sheehan, if he were 5 years younger I would be salivating at the prospect of him moving up the leagues and getting a chance in the national team, but unless Bolton get promoted this season his profile will be unlikely to get him call up.

If he's not an out and out striker, a position in which we are currently short of players, he's going to struggle to get a senior call-up. We have lots of forwards, all younger than him, who have already proven themselves playing at a higher level. If he plays in the Championship next season, and is scoring and assisting on a regular basis, he could get into the squad ahead of the likes of Cullen and Bradshaw but even then getting a place in a team is going to be a tough ask ahead of players like Wilson, Johnson, Brooks,James, Broadhead and even Matondo.

Scored a really nice goal today and later subbed off , this lad has something to offer the Wales squad yet he is continually overlooked by the man in charge , certainly more productive than a useless Matondo .

I'm sure Collins has something to offer Wales, and I'd like to see him called up and given a chance, but very strange and harsh to randomly have a pop at Matondo. No need to have a go at one player to praise another. And Matondo also has something to offer (see his recent goals for Rangers) and despite being called up he hasn't actually been given any opportunities for a long time.
