For me, he has to get some decent results, 4 points against Macedonia and at least a point at home to Serbia.
If he doesn't achieve at least 5 points from those games then we should let him go

If he doesn't achieve at least 5 points from those games then we should let him go I agree. Five points in the last games would be the minimum to suggest that on top of the Scotland results and the performance against Croatia that we're going in the right direction. Anything less and we should be looking for a new (Welsh) manager.

Its not code for no Dutch Ray. Its having people like John Hartson as part of the coaching staff. What's his past experience? Working as a part time striking coach for a conference club? We don't need continuity. We need a manager who has been there and done it or who has the potential to do it. Coleman has neither the experience or the potential. We can't keep renewing managers contracts who have done terribly just so we can have continuity. Yeah I'd generally agree with this. Get the right manager in at the right time and you can do a Trapattoni's Ireland cica Euro 2012 (and but for a dodgy handball decision, the 2010 World Cup) and take a decidedly average team to a competition finals. Putting aside for a moment the particular context of Trapattoni's appointment / form of the Irish team at the actual Euro 2012 finals / and the team's current form, I think the example of Trapattoni at Ireland demonstrates quite clearly the tangible results of investing in an experienced, possibly (or even preferably) foreign manager with a strong record of delivering success. Lars Lagerback's recent interest in our post was exciting for me and hinted at the possibility of the FAW going down this route. I was slightly disappointed that they chose Coleman, he was / still is emotionally far too close to the Speed tragedy for a start, and is very short on his critical back story of managerial achievement. Having said that he was appointed and I would personally give Coleman the option of extending his time with us (on the proviso of delivering decent results and performances going forward) but I would certainly want to see the FAW look further afield for his eventual replacement. A crap, but still reasonably accurate, philosophical observation would be to refer to the old truism 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Well in so far as we're sadly still failing to qualify, it is broke, so let's try and fix it. Keeping managerial appointments 'in-house' hasn't worked and isn't working, so let's give it a go and secure a 'Lagerback-type' next time.

Provided that the u21s remain a very high priority, Coleman is the best man for the job. John Toshack started the youth revolution and ended up and at em football from us. I never want to go back to the pre-Toshack years. I do not think Coleman does either.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23868951Well played, needed to be said. I think that pretty much confirms why Collins was left out and that he has taken a dim view of certain other clubs/players conduct either side of an international date. Its a bad situation for us as we have no qualifying pedigree so hold no cards. I can't imagine the situation would be like this if we were off to a world cup or a euros.

Great to see Coleman sticking up for our country, he seems clued up on the rankings and seedings whereas previous managers havent been.
He must tell the players how important the next set of fixtures are, to finish 3rd would be fantastic and help us towards a better group next time.

I worry that the players have been conditioned by their clubs to think "oh its only a dead rubber" and no point turning up. I would like to hear more players talk of the importance of ranking points so we know they at least have an awareness of the issue.

Well done Coleman. As I said in another thread, he's got Bale working for him and that should be the catalyst for the rest to follow. James Collins can fuck off if it means in the medium and long term we have a strong and committed ethos in the squad.

But all we hear from footballers about each other is how "he's a good pro" or a "model professional". In such logic there can be no such thing as a dead rubber surely?

Notice how Bale turned up to be around the squad for the Eire game despite knowing he was not fit enough to play. Ramsey tweets a picture of him at home watching the game- obviously never even turned up to be assessed.
I don't know who is pulling the strings there- the player or Wenger, perhaps both. But we need to get tough with it, even if Ramsey is our second best player.
As I said, if Bale can turn up for a friendly during a record transfer there is no excuse for anyone else and well done Coleman for calling them out on it. It's true what he says, these lads have been around for bloody ages on the international scene and yet only Bale looks like getting close to 100 caps. Piss poor really, Collins being a prime example of someone who should have been a Welsh centurion and yet amassed around 41 caps.

I'd imagine that Ramsey felt a little embarrassed seeing Bale there, I'll hold off judgement until the next time it happens.
Collins is pathetic really, irrespective of how much he could contribute (not much in my opinion) or how we are for alternatives it is counter productive to have that kind of attitude around the squad.

With the advent of a 24 team euros, at least for every other qualifying tournament this problem should go away.
Playing for 3rd (play-off), its highly unlikely we will be out of contention come the final few qualifying games.
Take our current position, cannot qualify but 1point off 3rd place.
Which will hopefully mean for at least the euro qualifiers, we will retain the players interest throughout.

Cookie has gone up a notch in my estimation. I just wish he could articulate it better but hey Agreed on some of his other comments, he sounds like "one of the lads" with some of the comments he comes out with (his use of 'Baley' makes me cringe). But on this issue his tough talk is entirely needed I feel. Being more erudite runs the risk of coming across quite passive/aggressive and snide. Really, we have needed a manager to talk a tough game to let the players know what is expected of them. It sounds like he is quite matey with them off the record (use of nicknames etc), which is fine, so him getting tough now should mean they listen and not take offence like if Tosh had been the one to come out with this. Hopefully it also lets the clubs know that we are aware of what they are up to. This may not be the best way to foster relationships, but playing nice has got us nowhere with Arsenal really so what is there to lose by being a bit more combative?

Media Wales reporting that Chris Coleman has been left behind in Cardiff.
"Passport issues" to blame.
Kit Symons in temporary charge and will take this evening's media conference in Macedonia. Coleman hoping to fly out later.

Maybe he's changed his mind about signing the undeserved contract and quit on the spot? #onecanhope

what an idiot, I am personally backing Coleman but there is no way he should be offered a new contract unless we do well in the next 4 games.
If we only pick up a point in the next 2 games then he should walk away and give 2 games to which ever manager came in.
With Bale, Ramsey and other good youngsters there will be a few more interested paries now

Just when you think Coleman is starting to impress with his words this week on Bale, commitment, continuity etc he goes and does something like this... and all the washing machine/nightclub memories come flooding back...
Really doesn't say much for his professionalism does it? If I was the FAW I'd tell him he needs some more points in this group before letting him anywhere near a new contract.

This is an organisational error, I doubt it will have much effect on preperations. Coleman will no doubt be briefing Symons from his mobile phone. And the squad seem to have had a good laugh about it.
It won't affect tonight's result. As for the contract, I believe Jonathan Ford knows what he is doing and has deliberately left the signing of the new contract til after this double-header, with a view to reconsidering if things go wrong.
