Wasn't this guy the voice of reason when the Barry & Llanelli situation happened?
The guy we thought had common sense gives Coleman backing.
We really are in a shit state.

That article is totally misleading, all he actually says is “I’ve played in front of 50,000 people who are all pointing the finger at the manager. “I’m sure Chris will rise above it.”

Read the comments below too, particularly the one about the welsh fan taking his young son.

Not surprising, albeit a lot more than I expected. The comment regarding the son strikes a chord. I remember going to my first welsh game in 96 when I was around 10 years old. The cardiff arms park started filling nicely at least 30mins before kick off - and this was when Gould was in charge! It is extremely sad, especially for the players. The FAW are so out of touch its unbelievable. The suggestion of a free ticket for a child is good, anything to get the attendance up a bit.

I can see what you mean about the development of youth players and the restructuring, putting flynn in charge of youth across the board but what else did the Romans do for us? I may not talk about the Toshack years as much as I should, but plenty of has been said about just how fundamental the changes he made were and they go beyond the the youth revolution that he started. It is the biggest football injustice I know that Toshack does not get the credit her deserves. I will always be grateful for what he did for us, the mess he inherited, the turnaround, the hope, our future!

ok beyond the youth development which brian Flynn was in charge of! What did tosh do? in real terms, not just cliches such as pride in shirt, the hope, our future. I'm not taking the piss i genuinely what to know what you think here?

Wales online reporting that coleman will be told to replace his backroom team if he wants to keep his job.
This includes replacing osian roberts (and maybe some of his people), john hartson, and geraint williams and his team are also thought to be under threat. Kit symons role thought to be safe.
The faw think he needs better quality help. Who on earth is going to accept a role beneath coleman and symons who is of sufficient world class quality to take us to a major finals?
Oh yeah...let's give tony pulis a call.
A farcical situation.

A few pundits and ex players (for fear of upsetting coleman) say he needs a bit of extra help and this is the faw's response.
It's a brainless, reactionary response and basically signs away any chance of euro 16.

This could be FAWs ploy to push Coleman out without being seen to renege on their contract offer: FAW tell Coleman to change staff, Coleman doesn't want to betray his mates, Coleman walks.

FFS they talk about world class coaching but prepared to keep Symons on board!!!
They will prob just get rid of Hartson, he FAW didnt like the appointment anyway and came out saying he hadn't been appointed when he stated on twitter he had. He's a lovely bloke but was a bit of a 'pity' appointment.

RV on twitter - 'How cheap is this? Let's sacrifice staff to save face of the incompetent manager (and the people who appointed him). '
It's hard to argue with that

I agree with the FAW on this, if Coleman isnt great tactically but the players like him and have even said his man management is good then clearly he needs better coaches and staff around him to coach the team and the style of play, Gary Speed obviously benifited from this, he was the figure head and he had excellant staff around him.

I'm ambivalent about this. I simply don't know either way anymore. My concern is what will happen to attendances if we don't get some points out of the next two games. We will be in a very serious crisis. I don't really have any answers though. The Welsh public are very fickle though. I suspect we'll play no more than one friendly at home before the Euros, and this will be taken to a smaller venue. So, we're already looking at next season: If Bale wins the Champions League with Real Madrid, the Welsh public will probably be gagging to see him play or Wales at the start of next season. Equally, if we draw England, Spain, Italy or Netherlands in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, just watch everyone suddenly rediscover their love for international football. If that happens, ticket sales should be linked, so that priority for the big matches goes to fans who buy tickets for games against the lower seeds. But failing that the FAW are going to have to take a serious look at how they market the games. I appreciate the budget is minuscule in comparison, but we have got to look at what the WRU do promote international games in Wales and copy some of that.

If he does replace the backroom staff, how about Bellamy taking up Harton's position? He has two game left for us, then after that, what better way for an introduction into coaching while still being able to continue with his club career.

The WFA say the players deserve 'world class coaches'. Let's see them put their money where their mouths are then.

From the Walesonline article - "Roberts is highly regarded for his work with the FAW Trust. But his position with the Wales senior side, and that of some of the sports scientists, is being called into question by senior FAW officials." This is best part of our set-up. It reflects the kind of professionalism that top players and clubs insist upon and is one of the main reasons that player attendance has been so good since the time Speed took over. “We pay an absolute fortune for the huge support staff who are there for every Wales match, but something is not right." They're going to use this "crisis" to cut costs, aren't they? www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/wales-boss-chris-coleman-set-5999374

FAW should give Coleman an ultimatum: beat Macedonia at home and you get your two year contract. Fail to beat them, and bye Chris.

Can they really justify giving him a contract if we lose the last 2 qualifiers?
I'm starting to think Coleman may not get another campaign...

The players should be expected to beat macedonia at home, so Coleman doesn't deserves a new contract on that alone. Mind you i wouldn't be confident of getting a result if we played san marino right now.

“It would be short-term thinking to just change the manager by judging him over two games.
Likewise by offering him a new contract based on his 2 wins in this group compared to the 6 losses!
Chris - i don't think anyone is just judging you over 2 games!

Listened to "Ar y Marc" yesterday morning, and was very impressed with Osian Roberts' defence of Coleman, not that I necessarily agreed with it. He consistently comes across as measured, calm and authoritative. The word gravitas springs to mind. This is in contrast to Coleman, who seems shallow and lacking in insight. Take his comments on the Serbia defeat: "“They were strong, rugged, had a streetwise mentality which said we weren’t getting past them. We, on the other hand, were too stand-offish. We sat too deep and that gave them the capacity to open us up. We’ve got to be more solid like Serbia.” This completely overlooks our main deficiency: the lack of discipline in our defensive shape. Players (especially Gunter) get pulled out of position far too easily (who can't be accused of being "stand-offish" for the way he got sucked into central midfield for Serbia's opening goal), opening spaces for the opposition to exploit. In the modern game ruggedness is no longer the main quality you look for from a defence - that's the mentality of the 70s.
What makes me despair is that the remedy of some in the FAW setup, for our current ills, would appear be to get rid of the one part of the current setup that impresses. If we have the funds to be able to afford a world-class coach, then perhaps those funds could be better allocated to securing the services of a World class manager instead.
Roberts is the only senior member of the coaching team remaining from the Speed era. If he's the weak link now, it's strange that we did so well towards the end of Speed's range. Or is he getting no credit for Speed's success, and all the flak for the failings of Coleman's tenure? The word scapegoat springs to mind.
Roberts gave a detailed analysis of how unfortunate we were with the first Macedonia goal - which I couldn't fault. But in one matter his comments fell short - his analysis of Macedonia's winner. He said that goal was down to an individual error - which he subsequently qualified by acknowledging that Vaughan had received an unlucky bounce that led to his mis-control, which started the sequence of events that led to the goal. What I find worrying about this is that Coleman and his team clearly did not closely study the video footage after the game, because if they had done so they would have seen that the responsibility for that goal was mainly Bellamy, Ricketts and Gunter's failures to close down the goalscorer (with no unlucky bounce defence at hand). This analytical failure may have led to Vaughan being dropped to the bench for Crofts, which would have contributed to our poor showing against Serbia. There are clearly failings in the Wales camp, and they are probably not all Coleman's. However, the last person I would be looking to replace right now is Osian Roberts.
I'm curious to see if any of the players will come out and defend him like they've done with Coleman.

True Osian is not the weak link here.
How can they talk of bringing in a 'world class coach' to work UNDER Coleman and Symons - What exactly do those two bring to the set up if not a good level of coaching?

If Roberts is a weak link now, he was weak link under Speed. After the Barry and Llanelli debacle this serves as an opportunity for the FAW Councillors to flex their muscles, to remind the executive where the power lies. And stick their boot in. Of course it begs the question that if Coleman has inadequate coaches in his team then why have the self same Councillors appointed them

Mind you i wouldn't be confident of getting a result if we played san marino right now. Football rankings website now has us with a 56% likelihood of making Pot 4 for the euro 2016 qualifiers, 44% chance of Pot 5. So I'm reading this as a win over Macedonia at home and we are in Pot 4. So the players are playing for more than keeping Coleman in a job. For reference back in April we were at 82% to be Pot 4.

Coleman says he knows he can't afford to lose at home against Macedonia. He says we cannot afford to finish bottom of the group.
Does this mean the FAW have told him this?
Does this mean we are happy to scrape a 5th place finish and give him a new contract based on this?
If so then we might as well give the fuck up.
