Very sorry to hear this if true. Unfortunately, I'm afraid it'll knock us back a few years. As has happened with Wales in the past a popular manger goes for whatever reason and the results nosedive for a time. e.g Mike England, Terry Yorath, Gary Speed.
Having said that good luck Chris and thanks for the memories!

Strange one if he's gone to Sunderland. It's a huge club but it seems rotten to the core. I hope he does well but there's a decent chance he'll be out of the job before Wales play next anyway! Big gamble for him.

Sunderland? That’s a poisoned chalice if ever there was one. Daft move. £800k isn't it? Money talks. They will have a massive promotion bonus in place as well.

Wish him all the best, he's overseen one of the greatest periods of Welsh footballing history and we can't thank him enough so I truly hopes he does well at Sunderland. As someone has already said though, it's a bit of a poisoned chalice. Would have stayed here personally as we have a great chance of qualifying for Euro 2020. His stock would have gone up and he likely would have got a better offer than the sinking ship of Sunderland. He's still young so he could have waited it out but all the same, best wishes Cookie, cheers for the memories x

maybe he wont be so harshly judge if say he went to Everton , I mean many people think Sunderland are already a lost cause so it wont look so bad if he did fail

Having said that good luck Chris and thanks for the memories! I fear so as well however our stock has raised considerably since the days of Yorath, England and even Speed. I wonder what the reasons were? Money? A sudden change of heart? I just hope that the FAW pulled out all the stops to keep him. If so, we can be reasonably confident that they will do their utmost to ensure we get the right person for the job. No one wants to see a return to the dark old days.

I'm surprisngly gutted right now. Can't believe this has happened after his words following the Panama.
Hope this wasnt because of a breakdown in relationship with the FAW.
This sucks a bit.

I guess the 'Coleman Out' brigade are ecstatic, and the "I'm not fussed either way" and the "I can see pros and cons" lot are perfectly happy? For all those that made such calls, I'm dying to know where you think we should go from here? Who is going to be the manager you were all saying would/might take us to the next level?
I have to say, with how ready many were to slate him after the Ireland game and how shit our attendance was against Panama, I truly despair at the Welsh fanbase right now. From having so much pride in the fans after France and thinking we'd actually turned a corner, to seeing so many turn on him and the team just over a year later and going back to pre-Euros attendance level is so disappointing. We're just as shit and fickle as any other 'supporters'.

Whatever the FAW might or might not have done, going to Sunderland is a crazy move. Can't think of any circumstances where in the days to come, I will say "you did right there Chris going to the Black Cats".

I was wrong, thought he'd definitely stay for another campaign.
I'm absolutely gutted.
It's important we keep Osian and get the right man in. Lars Lagerback?

Let's hope he had a good offer from the FAW but decided he wanted a new challenge. I'd hate to find out that we didn't offer him everything he wanted. Good luck Chris, you turned my dreams into a reality ❤

Odd choice in Sunderland, but you follow the money these days.
Thanks for the memories, Chris. You gave us an experience that my taid would have loved.

And maybe he was waiting to see what was available before making the final decision. I think it's an incredibly risky move but best of luck to him.

Sunderland fans don't want him there, he probably could have earned a larger wedge elsewhere and if he fails there then he'll be back to where he was before he took the job with us (with that opportunity also likely locked for him). When I say best of luck, I truly mean it. He didn't have the easiest job with our lot but club football is a lot more ruthless than international. He won't get the same amount of time to get things right there as he did with us. Was on the Sunderland fans forum earlier,as the news broke, and they are all loving him going there and are praising him for giving up Wales to go to a team bottom of the championship. They were fearing ally Mcoist being the next manager, but believe Coleman has the character to get them climbing the table.

I spoke to Chris after the Panama game at the Vale at about 23:30-00:00, I had the impression that he wanted to stay and build but was in the dark with the whole situation.
No one will ever have to take on the Wales National Team Mangers job in such circumstances as Chris did, I genuinely think he wanted to stay and build, there has been no leaving do, good byes or anything, everyone was of the impression Chris was still going to be our manager post Christmas.
I think he has taken a job whilst it is vacant as opposed to continue to negotiate and have no work, what I find amazing is the speed in which John Toshack was given contracts in comparison to Chris considering the different heights they took Wales to, Chris is better than Sunderland, £110 million in debt, up for sale and with no feel good factor to build from, how far can he take them, Advocaat, Allardyce, Bruce, Keane, Moyes, O'Neil, Wilkinson, McCarthy all ex International Managers, Champions League players or Champions League managers yet none of them did nothing with a club that very few foreign players want to join, I would look at the list of managers listed above and think why did they all fail reach the heights that Peter Reid did around 1999-2000, I think Chris could have picked a better club if he had waited, I think this could have been handled better by FAW, if he was going he desereved the Panama match to be his last game and an opportunity for fans to thank him.

Two days ago I went on there and many were of the opinion that he is not the answer. Funny how the minds of football fans work.
