I think this political speculation quite unfair to Rambo. We know about his support for WWF and his interest in wildlife conservation.
Why did he turn down Newcastle, they could have easily have afforded to pay all his wages. I strongly suspect that was at least partly because of his political awareness of the nature of the owners.
Rangers is a totally different scenario.I dont claim to know anything about their fanbase but we know Glasgow voted for indy in 2014 and is a SNP stronghold,as is most of Scotland to be fair.It follows that a large number of Rangers fans must support th SNP and indy and ive seen claims and figures to this affect. Whatever the truth of that it doesnt follow that Rambo is not pro indy just because hes signed for these. The very fact hes gone to Scotland and not England suggests hes not a Brit/unionist. I would say some, but not all our players, are probably pro indy, just like the fans. I think its a good move in football terms, playing for a winning side, playing in Europe, maybe winning a few medals.

Despise the club but love the player so hope they lose 4-3 every game with a Ramsey hatrick.
Team GB stuff wasn’t ideal, but it was a ‘major tournament’ of sorts in a time where it was still relatively bleak albeit improving from a Cymru perspective. I’ll forgive him and the rest for that.
He must be well-aware of our country’s history so hope he stays away from the union rag imagery associated with that club.
Here’s hoping he’s fit and firing come March.

If even the Rangers and Celtic fans can keep away from Celtic-Rangers nonsense when international football comes around then surely so can we.

I hate the move for the political reasons others have highlighted - there's no other club where British identity is as important or advocated - but I'm not at all surprised that doesn't bother him. I imagine 99% of footballers in the UK aren't politically minded around issues of national identity. However, I also hate the move because I think it's beneath him. I feel embarrassed for him that he's had to stoop to that level, and what does it say about us when the best our second top player can do is get a move to Rangers? I despise Real Madrid for all sorts of reasons around the fanbase and links to fascism and Spanish nationalism, but the standard is incredible and they're the most famous club in the world, so some part of me is proud that a Welshman plays there. But you can't say that with bloody Rangers. Having said all that, it's better than doing nothing at Juventus

I am genuinely amazed at the reaction. No chance he'd get the same reaction if he went to Celtic. Way too many people allow the politics of 2 clubs up in Scotland decide their way of thinking.

I don’t really know the history of Rangers, although I suspect it’s concerned with that nonsense in Ireland. Not a fan of that sort of conflict finding a home in football.
But I’m a bit surprised by the reaction considering Ramsey played for Team GB. The time for this sort of disappointment was back then, that horse bolted a long time ago.
I wonder if this is the “biggest” club that came in for him and that’s all there is to it? I don’t see Rangers as a big club myself, not playing in Scotland. They are a well supported club and are in Europe, but I’m not seeing the attraction of playing so many ropey fixtures apart from that they will be played in front of 55,000 crowds. For me it was noticeable that Wolves were reported to have actually distanced themselves from his name. Who comes out and says “we’re definitely not interested in this player (who happens to belong to one of the biggest clubs in Europe)”? When Wolves don’t want to know, even when the wages are heavily subsidised, I guess it kind of suggests where Ramsey’s current position in the firmament is.
If he still has ambitions to play week in week out at a high standard he needs to rebuild his reputation.

I don’t think Ramsey is rated much outside of Wales and a cursory glance of the forums of the clubs he has been linked with support that. The clubs who are doing alright (Villa, Wolves) have him down as an injury prone liability whereas the clubs who aren’t doing so well (Newcastle, Burnley) see him as a positive signing. We don’t know, ultimately, who was in for him, apart from a local journo saying that Wolves were at pains to stress they weren’t. He’ll have chosen Rangers because it was, to him, the best offer on the table. We can draw our own conclusions as to why it was the best offer but I agree on the face of it it doesn’t stand out as an excellent choice unless it was that or Burnley which in itself is a horrendous thought.

I can’t believe that grown men are getting upset about the political allegiances of a club and its supporters! Here’s a revelation for you: most players don’t care about stuff like this. The idea he’s a closet Orangeman is as mental as believing he’d support the IRA if he’d joined Celtic. Remember Hartson, hero of Celtic Park? The only reason he didn’t join Rangers is because he failed a medical. Personally I hate both clubs and all the sectarian pantomime that surrounds them. But it doesn't reflect badly on Ramsey any more than joining Celtic reflected badly on Ledley and Hartson.
Bale literally plays for Franco’s club. Ramsey has spent the last few years playing for one of the most corrupt clubs in Italian football (and there’s plenty of competition for that honour). We’d have seen a move to Lazio as a good one - would we be having hissy fits about the fascist political leanings of a contingent of their fans?
I’d love to see an independent Wales but I’m not mental enough to expect all our players to share my view, and I’m not delusional enough to believe that I have an gauge their personal political beliefs based on what club they play for. During the vote for the creation of the Welsh assembly Gary Speed backed Britain/status quo and Giggs backed devolution. As a footballer and a man I admire Speed far more, even though I may have disagreed with him on politics. Some of you need to fucking grow up.

I’m obviously out of touch but I’ve genuinely never heard any anti-Rangers stuff in my entire 40 odd years of following Wales. Obviously anti GB and all but not specifically against Rangers as a club, even though they’re obviously synonymous with all that stuff. I get that the club is pro-Brit and all that but I didn’t know they even registered in the thoughts of Wales fans. Not pro- Rangers obviously and not Anti- Rangers, just thought they were an irrelevance to us I'm not sure that it is anti a football club in Glasgow thing per se, but it is what they stand for; Unionism, Great Britain, clearing Celts from their own country, killing a language. And generally continuing to be cnuts to this day. Who knows, maybe Ramsey's agent (or Ramsey himself) aren't particularly political and didn't realise what the club represent. Looks like after sitting on an airstrip for several hours he realised that he had no other choice. He doesn't look particularly stoked at pulling on the shirt. I'm wondering which chant will the Rangers fans sing first "He always has a bad back, but loves the Union Jack" or "Aaron Ramsey, Rangers, Aaron Ramsey, Yeah"......

At least he wants to play ahead of our WC qualifers - so good on him for that! Wish Neco and Rodon would follow his example (hopefully Bale can get the odd game at Real!) Neco does play some of the lesser games for LFC. He will prob play Sunday.

You'd like think Ian Gwyn Hughes and Osian Roberts would have been on the phone to him once the rumours broke to tell him to reconsider this. You can forgive Team GB because at the time we were miles away from qualifying for a major tournament, and experienced players like Bellamy and Giggs were hopping on the bandwagon, but I expect this move will harm his reputation with the more Indy leaning Welsh crowd, which is more or less all the die-hards. Really disappointed in Rambo. Yes you'd have thought he'd been advised. Either way between playing for GB and now this it isn't a good look for him with the indy crowd - of whom I know a lot of people loved Rambo. Especially given that he's a Welsh speaker It almost makes you think that maybe he does have an opinion on these political issues and that he is a unionist I doubt many of the players care about the union/going indie/brexit. They earn thousands of pounds a week, why would they want change? They can do anything they want in their life. I think they got other things on their mind than national insurance going up 1.25% (or is it 10%?)

Bit strong at the end there, but I totally agree with the general gist. I really doubt footballer’s are saying no to Newcastle because of who their owners are. The vast majority will be concerned about weekly wage and length of contract and won’t be interested in the politics at the club. A lot of over-thinking imo.

Culturally they live in a world where they are insulated from having to care about the effects of politics. I doubt there are many politicised footballers for exactly that reason. There is simply no reason for most of them to care. Maybe I’m wrong but high level football has never come across as a hotbed of political thought.

Glad he did not join Newcastle Utd but at the end of the day he wants to play football on a regular basis & if Rangers offer this well done Aaron & good luck. I really don't get all this hatred towards Rangers both clubs & fans are as bad as each other who can ever forget Celtic fans & this absolutely shameful behaviour. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-40804531

It’s being reported that Juventus are paying his wages in full! They’ve given him away for free! Option to buy set at 5-6 million.
Why would you just give away a player you will continue to pay a lot of money for? Madness

I honestly think this is a decent deal for Wales, we just needed him playing and staying sharp and match fit without having to put his body through things that could jeopardise him playing for us. Fingers crossed he doesn't get battered and clattered too much and is always available when we're playing.

Isnt it obvious why he would choose Rangers over a Burnley or Newcastle? Silverware.
If you put the whole Brit thing aside, from a club level , it makes complete sense.
Why bother hammer yourself in a relegation battle when you could be lifting trophies and winning medals.
A lot of Scotlands national squad play in the SPL, and they are a better team than us.
