If Ramsey had a defensive mindset at one time, then he's definitely lost it. He's struggled defensively far too many times for Wales when playing in a deep-lying role to rely on him in that capacity. I suspect that when he did perform well for Arsenal defensively it was in a three - or he had excellent cover from elsewhere in the team. There's no questioning his attitude or work rate, it's that he lacks the pace off the mark to be an effective defensive mid, and an overly attacking mindset. It's fair to question whether Jonny Williams is suitable in a deeper role too, but he's always had the Allen-like terrier-attributes of a defensive mid. Whether he has the defensive discipline is an open question.
In any event, we're talking about either Ramsey or Jonny Williams playing as a 10, where the defensive contribution is important but secondary. The crucial issue here is not which is the best player overall in that position, because Ramsey wins that contest easily, but how we manage game time of both players over the two games - because we don't have any suitable alternatives in my opinion.

Ramsey is a great attacking 8, but not a great defensive 8. He's also a great defensive 10, as well as being a very capable offensive 10. The solution is simple, play him at 10.

Agree entirely, with the proviso that we need to manage his game time over the two games - as we do his deputy, Jonny Williams. Will Giggs be smart enough to work out this conundrum? Or will he go off-piste yet again with square peg in round hole selections?

It's a joke, lads. Sounded like ger93 is looking for confirmation elsewhere despite a player literally saying Ramsey trained.

Guess the big call is tomorrow when the squad travels? Presumably just doing all the can before making a decision this evening.

All that overplaying for Juventus, fuck Sarri.
I think at this point it'd make more sense to treat Ramsey as a once-a-season luxury indulgence rather than someone we should pin our hopes and dreams on. Build a new midfield around Ampadu, Smith & Allen.

Complete load of bollocks, he's out for the double header. Why can't the FAW just say that instead of falsely keeping our hopes up.
If he's 'working on fitness', why can't he do that in Slovakia where all the FAW team will be?
He's probably on a flight back to Italy as we speak.
Don't know why I'm so annoyed as I knew this would be the outcome, but it's the same old shite again.

He could squeeze in two sessions of 5 a side if he’s on the ball. That’ll show em!

I think the good news is that it's not serious enough for him to be withdrawn from the squad.
A proper thigh strain will keep you out for a month and he wouldn't be training at all.
It'll be frustrating as fuck if he misses both our games then is back playing for Juve in a few weeks, but it's better than him being out for another month and missing the November games.
Clutching at straws here trying to be positive!
