Ash needs to be part of the group in some capacity at these upcoming Euros.

Thank you for everything Ashley. We were brave on the ball at the back. We cut down on the hoofball. Ashley was a massive part of that. The Belgian goal. Wow!!!

Great player for us, I’m sure he will play some part of the wider squad in the euros

It's just such a shame how his Welsh career dwindled away. To still be captain, and be dropped so many times for inferior players under Giggs was poor treatment imo. His playing abilities were quite clearly on the wane (quite dramatically after his first season at Everton), Everton were rubbish that year, sacked Koeman as they were terrible. Can't blame that on AW.

Will sing his praises to the end of my days & will tell all the young folk how important he was for us in what we achieved. Easily best captain of my life so far - will take some topping! Diolch Ash!

His playing abilities were quite clearly on the wane (quite dramatically after his first season at Everton), although his organisational/leadership ability remained clear for all to see. In a way its a shame he didn't retire after the Euro campaign, or certainly the WC18 campaign. Would have saved Giggs some headaches.Whatever happened to countries retiring players (and not players retiring from their country)? What headaches Giggs did have were all self-created. Why make somebody captain when you have no intention of playing them? Especially for somebody like Ash who was never going to retire from international duty. Even Toshack had to the man management skills to actually speak to players and tell them that they didn't feature in his plans.

He was always included in squads and maintained that captains armband despite not being at his best, playing regularly etc since leaving swansea. Im sure even williams himself would say that no one is guarranteed a game. But he was always around the team and you cant say that williams should have played, as those boys that came in have got us where we are. It was the right call to drop ash but sad because of the circumstances.

Ash played the 1st half against Spain and we were rolled over, I think that game maybe put doubt into RGs mind. Were on a good run so let's wait and see, Belgium and the Czech Republic will be a good test for us! Before a difficult group in the Euros. Getting into league A in the nation's league gives us plenty of tough opposition to improve and see where we stand too!

This made Ashley obliged to turn up for camps and sit on the sidelines and watch the likes of James Lawrence fumble through games. Wouldn't you feel slighted if that happened to you? There was many other ways that Giggs could have handled this. Make him the 'ambassadorial captain' that some clubs give to long-serving players. Get him involved in some way as a player / coach. Even the Toshack 'I'm going in a different direction' type of phone call. A dedicated servant to Welsh football deserved better than the way he was treated.

I would say even though his career was on the decline that shows respect for ash. I don't think ashley williams would ever feel obliged to turn up for camps. He doesn't strike me as that sort. His role which im sure must have been highlighted to him was to help bring through the younger players/next generation. I think a 'going in a different direction' call is an insult. He was good enough for the squad but not good enough to make the starting 11. I think here giggs is damned if he does damned if he doesn't. Its a sensitive situation as ash is a legend but i don't think he was disrespected just better players came through.

No guarantees that he'll make the transition. Arguably he has worked under some of the greatest players to turn manager and it's not quite worked out for them in the long term (Laudrup & Koeman). Hopefully a good learning point.

He's on the latest EJFOF podcast.
He was very honest at the end of the interview when asked about only playing 1 qualifier in the euro2020 qualifiers.
He felt he was in better form than some players picked ahead of him, he was playing regularly and he was captain with 80+ caps so found it difficult to be on the bench but needing to keep positive to help inexperienced lads like Rodon and Mepham.

Respect to him he had every right to feel that. I do think ultimately the management did the right thing as we will reap the long term benefits from this transition for years to come. And ultimately we qualified for the tournament whilst blooding these players so it turned out to be a great decision really. It is harsh on our greatest captain but sometimes a harsh decision needs to be made

Something more to look forward to, pre-Euros.
First prog will be sandwiched between the two friendlies ahead of the tournament itself. I predict a draw (France away) and a home win over Albania!

A draw against France would be an unbelievable result. Their 4th team are better than our 1st team on paper. I'd take not being spanked in that one, even though I expect us to play our strongest XI I don't mind whether or not we beat Albania, I just want to see our extended squad have a run out

I've spent a lot of time parenting, coaching, and officiating at this level. There is far too much emphasis placed on 'pushy' parents. There are a LOT of idiots at this level who think they are the next Clattenburg or Guardiola. Ash is not going to suffer fools gladly.
