There is absolutely no way he should start a game for Wales ahead of the superior Roberts or the Premier League quality Dummett. Anyone who thinks he should is either blind or stupid. Surprising you say that about Gunter regarding not being better than a premier league quality player but you say Ashley Williams SHOULD be starting instead of a Premier League quality player, Mepham!

Dummett isn't a right back, so Gunter is the only realistic alternative to Roberts right now - until Jazz Richards gets himself sorted.

Dummett isn’t really Premier League quality though is he? He’s just fortunate Newcastle are a Premier League team. I like Gunter, he’s never let us down. Roberts is ahead of him but we’re lucky to have a reserve right back pushing 100 caps.

Dummett isn't a right back though point being? You said that Chris Gunter, a right back, shouldn't start ahead of a player who isn't a right back

Great to see that young Gunts is keeping his starting 11 position ;-) For all his many die hard fans, this is a SD quality stream
EDIT An assist already Shades of Lille ;-)

Loving the comments cadno, are you going for a full house? I am! Currently re-watching the Hungary game. So far it looks like our plan was - Pass it aroumd the back 4, give it to Ampadu to lump forward.

Very worrying that Gunter has been exiled from the Reading senior squad.....he's been training with the u23's apparently.
If Roberts gets injured, is a not match fit Gunter good enough as backup? Who else have we got?
Hopefully he can find a club, he's still championship material imo. Gutted for him at the moment.

I think he has enough experience to still be a reliable backup for us. Fingers crossed that Cameron Coxe comes through this year for City and gives us another option.

Cameron Coxe is nearly 21 and nowhere near the Cardiff first team. I doubt he will play again this season, unless the last few games are meaningless.
There are other options out there but Gunter is still number 2 after roberts

Disappointed to see Chris Gunter to come on in injury time to get a cap. Undeserved on current form.
Felt like Giggs was just being charitable to help him get up to 100 caps. I felt it dilutes the value of his previous caps and the other ones given out that night. Bit like the Gazza international a year or 2 back.
You've got to earn the right to play for Wales on your current form not just on sentimentality.
Bad move.

Gunter has earned his right to be a sub with his history, but agree, needs to find a club to start playing again. I think it would create a bad vibe if Giggs just turned up and left a lot of our 'veterans' high and dry.

He is best mates with Rambo & also came through the ranks with Bale. Keeping those two happy, on & off the pitch, is obviously of benefit to us.

He's frozen out a lot of the old guard, doing the same with Gunter would be a very bad move for the squad (I can't see Ramsey and Bale being particularly happy with the way certain players have been cast aside), for his relations with fans and for the actual quality of the squad, is there a right back better than Gunter who hasn't been called up?

Agreed, Gunter deserves his place in the squad every time (if playing), didn't like the injury time appearance either just to get him nearer 100 caps. It cheapens a Welsh cap. l hope he gets to play somewhere soon then he'll deserve the 100+ caps.

Bro you are definitely off the christmas card list of the Chris Gunter Chinese super fans Sin Wang and Tianyue Qiao. A fantastic servant for Wales and still has a lot to offer as Connor does make some errors.

What happens if Adam Matthews becomes a regular at Charlton in the next few months? Does Chris Gunter still deserve honorary caps for being a good lad who never got injured years ago? He'll be looking over his shoulder at Welsh right-backs in League One as well, soon.

I dont understand why people are quick to drop some of our ‘older’ players who still have a lot to give. Ashley, Gunter etc

I'm not writing Gunter off yet. He is a better defender than Roberts but doesnt offer as much going forward.
If he was playing atcthe moment I would probably pick him ahead of Roberts in October especially if Rodon and Mepham are the centre halves

He's not been in favour for a pretty poor Championship club for about a year now. He was told to find a new club in the summer but couldn't/wouldn't. Didn't go on their pre-season tour in Spain.

Matthews would need to consistent first team football over a number of months to even get in the discussion
