The whole off-the-ball pointing was really noticeable when Ampadu first came through because many saw it as a sign of maturity and leadership i.e. that he was prepared to boss much older teammates around. I loved it - some of it may have been slightly performative, but who cares. I agree there's less of it now - I think it's a sign of his increasing confidence, that he doesn't feel the need to present a certain image, and perhaps has a greater sense of how to control/manage/direct more effectively.

It can also be a sign to show you've received communication from others. When I get a shout from behind that a striker is lurking on my right shoulder, I normally point at him to acknowledge I've heard the call, and that I'm aware of where he is
Generally it's a sign that you're communicating, and I think you're more likely to do it in a team where you don't know your team mates that well and haven't played together much. It takes time to build the relationships on the pitch where you don't need to point as much, it just becomes intuitive

What a player he is turning into, I'm so glad he's no got a nailed down position in the team, future captain without doubt.

A few dodgy decisions by Amps in the opening stages, great match though. Norwich leading 1-0, but should be 1-1. Rutter is a menace.
Edit: 3-2 to Leeds now.
Fantastic game of football, I need to watch more of this mini-Wales team.

Rodon and James on form aswell. Leeds up to third if it stays like this

That Rutter fella is going to have some showreel by the end of the season! Yep, up to 3rd now, and I can't see Ipswich staying the course over 46 games due to a lack of squad depth.

7 million is the signing of the season The crazy thing is, everyone on here already knew this. Strange that the football world in general didn’t .

7 million is the signing of the season There are some good players in the Championship, but many of them aren't going to get any better, whereas Ampadu still has plenty of room for growth. The transfer fee was 10 million with addons, and Chelsea have a (favourable?) sell-on clause. However, Leeds will have had his services for free if they do sell him, and they should also make an overall profit.

Well don't forget his faults ,,,, accordingly to the English FA his faults were obvious in his early years as he takes too few touches before he passes ..... You could not make it up could you! What I love about him is he is down to earth and instead of being precious and acting like a Premiership player before he had proven anything he just went out on loan. Think about it a first team pick for Wales since 17, even a first team pick for a Premiership team in Sheffield Utd at 19-20 but decides to join Leeds in the Championship. Such an intelligent decision! He or Davies should be our captain - with an eye on the future maybe it should be Ampadu soon!

I already view him as a captain, whether he has the armband or not, he's a natural leader, the way he plays and carries himself, he just has that aura about him. He comes across as a lovely lad too and it looks like he's growing his hair again, lad!

Get the impression that response to his performance last night is slightly underwhelming. I had it down as quietly effective which in his role is no bad thing at all. Usual array of blocks, tackles and interceptions and would have been disappointed not to have scored.
Controlled aggression throughout and considering he was a yellow away from suspension, provided a mature performance. Even stepped in as a peacemaker at times.
23 and should win his 50th cap in the play off semi. We're lucky to have him.

I think he’s so good and consistent it’s just expected of him now and because of his own success he doesn’t stand out anymore. It’s just want you get from him every time

Agreed, James was slightly better as he got more involved on the distribution side, but Ampadu was very good too

Another thread mentions that his repeated loan moves to relegation threatened clubs possibly hasn't helped his development. I think generally speaking it could have an adverse effect but in his case, I think it's been the making of him. Leeds have got a 23 year old with the on field experience of someone far older and who's had to adapt to a number of different environments off the pitch. As I say, doesn't work for everyone and I'd say probably speaks volumes for his strength of character and dedication.

Great 70 yards through ball for the 2-1. James should have also got two in first half already

It looks like Rodon & Ampadu are starting at centre back today, so it should be an interesting watch.

I say that and for a split second I thought Crew would be starting in midfield, sadly not.
