Ryanair get alot of flak but with out them I couldn't get to football every 2 weeks. The press and governments like to put the boot into Ryanair. A lot of Journalists in the London Media get auto upgrades to Business and First when flying BA. Ryanair offers no such bribes to Journos and O'Leary is more than happy to mix it with stroppy and ill informed Journalists. They expect to be treated with deference, he tell them to F*** Off. Irish media are just as bad when it comes to Ryanair. The last word on todayfm constantly try to put them down

If anyone has time to fly Vanilla Sky to Mestia (£12 from Kutaisi or £21 from Tbilisi). - you really must! Spectacular 40 minutes flight, where the Russian pilot flew so near to the mountain range, you could physically smell the shrubs through the pilot's cabin window, that was left open at 10,000 feet! Mestia is a Godsend after 2 days in 37c heat in Kutaisi... A bit of a logistical nightmare getting the FAW ticket, just now, as WiFi not available, but a friendly cafe owner allowed me to Hot Spot ... not sure how it works... but £6.50 received by FAW...

Sure someone will have the ticket off you, but they will not receive the points they deserve for going.

Im forever chasing stage 1 on my account. Always end up having to buy a ticket off members who arent going but will still collect the points on their account. Its the fairest system but still has its flaws.

Anyone found any local football to watch on the Saturday? Good question.Must admit, that after Yerevan, where everyone I met (including a few elderly women!) Were all football fanatic - practically no one so far that I met in my first week here in Georgia, knows of our match or actually cares about football... I shall be flying into Tbilisi's tiny domestic airport tomorrow and try to get more information over the weekend

Very much looking forward to this one. Missed Moldova so it's been a long wait since Belgrade. I'll be travelling from Doha to Dubai (via Kuwait due to present diplomatic situation) to meet some friends and fellow Wales away regulars for 4 nights before moving onto Tbilisi for 3 nights. Such a contrast within one trip - the consumerism and capitalism excesses of Dubai and its £12 imported pints against the authenticity and character of ex-Soviet Tbilisi and its (hopefully) sub-£1 local ales!

SOME TBILISI INFO
According to the stadium ticket office , the next Dinamo Tbilisi home match is on 10 October... so I'll try and catch Locomotive today. The lad at the Kassa was very adament that Wales tickets will only be available on match day, but he said that there will be "many. many thousands tickets "... The Dinamo stadium doesn't feel as vast or as distant as the stadiums in Vienna or Belgrade. Although I walked it from Freedom Square in under an hour, it's a rubbish walk and not recommended. In fact, anywhere North of Freedom Sq ( including Rustavali shopping street) is of absolutely no interest. Take the Metro (50 tatri) for 3 stops. Station Square 1 is about 200m away and Station Square 2 is just a little further. Hostels and small hotels : Generally seem to charge 15 to 20 lari in a dorm or 60 to 80 in a double. stay anywhere around Freedom Square, although there is major construction going on right next to the FAW HQ, so much better staying South - East of there, towards Zioni Cathedral and the old town . As I mentioned in another post, that feels like Las Rambles on speed. Really kick arse type of area. You'll have a party for sure.

Surely its easier to jump into a taxi for a couple of quid or get the tube all of 3 stops as it is to make your way to where a bus is parked ?

I enjoyed the buses - chanting all the way there atmosphere was great. Plus FAW go to the trouble to organize the buses flawlessly from pre-match party location to the stadium and back. Effortless for us fans why wouldnt you choose this option?!

LEAGUE FOOTBALL IN GEORGIA
Well... I gets to the Locomotive stadium 30 mins before ko and there are about 5 people hanging around... out of the twenty kassa, only one is open. I pays my 3 lari (90p) and walk through... The stadium is Super impressive... about 30k capacity ... but ... the match is held in the training ground, next door! only one stand, and there were almost as many stewards as fans! About 500, maybe 600 max! Locomotive are currently 3rd in the league ... but rarely win anything. Maybe the Arsenal of Georgia :+) Their Nick name is the Locos...it ended 3-0 to the reds. The Loco's number 10 had two sumptuous goals and the Red goalie was also in top form. a sign of things to come ?
Tomorrow I am off to see Swan Lake at the National Opera. Front row seats are 35 lari...

SINGLE ROOM AVAILABLE FOR 44 lari per night Thursday Friday I have just cancelled my booking at Tina's Homestay in Tbilisi. I stayed there 3 nights, but now moved to a tiny apartment, owned by her mother in law - where I can better practice my Russian :+)
It's 3 minutes walk from the team hotel and Freedom Square. It also includes an excellent breakfast.
Get it fast on Booking.com

I have signed up for the trip described on webpage www.envoytours.com/tours/1-d...ur-to-armenia/but I know that two more takers are required in order to run the trip. It's a rare opportunity to visit Armenia and a visa for the day trip from Tbilisi is not required. BBQ lunch is included. If you are interested, you can contact the company concerned or me direct. I have no financial interest in the proceedings but I can probably could negotiate discount for a group of us.

I see Locomotive are at home again this Saturday. Another 4pm ko against Dinamo Batumi. I shall give this one a miss, as it clashes with my Chopin evening at 7pm... If anyone goes, keep an eye on Giorgi Diasamidze, their number 10...
Swan Lake yesterday was magnificent. Front row seats for 30 lari. The only man that can excite me, thrill me and send me on a roller coast of emotions more than Tchaikovsky, is a certain A. Ramsey :+)

For the first time on this entire trip, I got dragged last night to the local Irish bar - The Hanger. Not for me... overpriced food and drink. They have a small Marquee tent outside along the small cobbled stone alley. The TV was about 35 to 40 inch max. There was another small TV inside... Yes. It showed Italian football...
I'd much rather take the fan bus back to the Marriot Hotel and watch the match with Lucy and Mathew at the hotel bar...
That said, I have absolutely never been to a country that has less interest in football, than Georgia! Been to tiny villages in outer Mongolia, and Hill tribes in Cambodia. Desert settlements in Namibia... all had satellite dishes and always show footy...

The Hangar is where Gol are having their pre-match party...the overpriced drinks doesn't bode well!
If you spot any good sports bar with big screens, let us know. I'll be doing a reccy when I'm there next Wednesday as well.

I guess it's all relative... 0.4 litre local draft was 4 lari, as was tiny coffee . I have been used to paying 1.50 to 2.50 lari for half litre.
The food was almost triple the regular / simple restaurant price ... but, again, I have been having 3 sides dishes and a main course for about £4 ..
And yes, along the tiny cobbled streets of the old town / Zioni Cathedral area, there were another dozen or so English / Irish bars ...
In Yerevan... every kiosk had a huge TV screen with footy on it :+)
