A few things to do in town : 1/. In any weather. Take the "Ropeway" cable-car to the statute of Mother Georgia and the botanical gardens. It leaves from the riverside, about 7 or 8 minutes walk from The Hanger Bar. Only 2.5 lari. Runs til midnight. Well worth doing at night as well!
2/. In good weather, it's worth trekking up to the Funicular Mono - rail. It starts from a good 10 minute steep walk uphill from Freedom Square. Catch marshrutka 4 as it turns the corner, in front of the Marriott Courtyard. It runs up a spectacularly steep angle up to 900m above the city. On a clear day, you can see the snowy mountain tops to the North-west. Also 2.5 lari, but requires it's own card (refundable 2 lari). By the way, that same marshrutka number 4 does also stop across the road from "11" restaurant / near the Hanger, heading to Freedom Sq and Funicular lower station
3/. I still haven't been, but have been told that the Puppet theatre next to the Hanger is worth the 10 lari entrance. Shows daily at 8pm
4/. Absolutely recommend at least an hour at a local Banya. Only 3 lari. See previous post.
5/. Daily Flea market. 10 minutes walk North from the Hanger. Best to get there before 1pm. Plenty of Stalin and USSR memorabilia, as well as many other oddities...

Are people letting their banks know? Mine welcomed the call. I always let my bank know, easy if youre with Natwest and have online banking app. Select country and dates and youre done. Really handy.

The BBC Weather page for Tbilisi has been persistently wrong, especially in terms of rain, even for same day. The local TV weather shows Kutaisi to be gorgeous and 21-22c on Friday, but Tbilisi only maximum 14c Friday and max 17c Saturday. For those flying out of Kutaisi on Saturday / Sunday - they are talking of 25c over there :+)

Have to say I have found BBC weather - they get it from the Met Office I think - consistently close to spot on in my 10 days out her so far manulike. There's quite a lot of temperature variation across the country too.
Many thanks for your baths guide - I am heading for a non-Thai girl-administered massage today as per your tips.

Waiting for the 11.55 to Istanbul at Gatwick. Lots of Wales colours mixed in with poor flyers realising they’re sharing the flight with us.

Sorry if this has been covered but any advice on getting from the airport. What's the reasonable price for a taxi? Public transport?

Been in Riga for a few days and it's been freezing, so hoping there'll be a bit of sun.
Getting in to Tbilisi at 3.30 in the morning.

Please, please, please get a price before you get in the taxi.
Is Uber available in Tbilisi? If so, they're your safest bet.

Best option. Luckily for us, our pre arranged transfer from Kutaisi is already paid for and takes us right into the heart of Tbilisi. From there we're 1 stop on the metro away. 1 trip on the metro is apparently a gigantic 15p. Anyone else on the transfer from the wizzair Kutaisi flight later on/tomorrow morning?

Taxi fare from airport to town is officially only 25 lari. Taxi fare anywhere within the city centre is maximum 5 lari, although it should be 1 lari per km. Bus number 37 works 24/7 and leaves every 00 and 30 for 50 tatri. You can pay exact coinage into machine on board. Will drop you off along Rustaveli Metro, Freedom Square (next to tourist information kiosk) or even the bridge near Hanger bar. Going back to airport, dept from in front of Freedom Square metro at 09 and 39

Just picked up my ticket from Mathew. Noticed that the bus to the stadium is leaving from Europe Square, which is not all that convenient, unless you want to take the cable car (Ropeway) after the match... open til midnight. That will be one way of thanking Mother Georgia for the three points :+)

So I ended up paying 35 lari for taxi. The information office in arrivals told me it would be 39, signs outside 25. Not too bad and a helpful taxi driver who checked I was at the right apartment block.
I went outside and avoided the touts inside. Wasn't wearing my colours either, not that should make any difference.
So now to enjoy.....

CARREFOUR SUPERMARKET
For those wanting to buy cheap / good beer / wine / cognac etc, there is a HUGE 24/7 Carrefour about 5 minutes away from The Hanger Bar. Walk towards the main boulevard and the "11" restaurant. Across that super busy Blvd you'll see an ARCHWAY. 50m down through that archway, you'll see it on the left. Note, that the best place to cross the Blvd is slightly to your Right, as you come from the Hanger - using the subway...
