Have to bear in mind that the standard is probably equivalent to league 1 or 2.
Great to see him getting games though and great experience for a young man

Looks a good prospect. Thought he did well coming on against ROI.

An early match this evening - 5.30pm - in the cup v Groningen UPDATE
Didn't get to see the match, due to the early ko, but our man got yet another assist today in the 2-0 win. From the article it appears that he also got one last week, which I obviously also missed ...
They were joking about seeing if he had any Dutch connections, for their own national team ;-)
Must be a shoe-in to our 23 man squad next week, surely?

Anot6her very decent 90 minutes for Matt. This time, back in the heart of mid-field. More Allen than Rambo. He is surprisingly good with his head, as well. Finally, he does seem to have a mean streak / street-wise side to him. A lot more Moss Side than Wilmslow ;-)
Would love to see him get a full 45 minute v Spain.

Thought Matt was fantastic tonight v Spain and his 30 minutes cameo at the end surely made many stand up and take note - not just me and Albert Stuivenberg ;-)))
Broke up many Spanish moves and instigated most of ours - including the goal.
I hope to see Ledley again sometime in a Welsh shirt, but this kid (along with Ampadu) really have that position covered ;-)

He was bloody superb tonight, along with Brooks he was the best player on the park.
He won the ball at the end, which ended in us scoring the consolation goal.
Very bright future for Smith and he's bound to have stamped his place in the Wales squads for upcoming internationals.

Agree, Smith was great. I’d have no problem with him starting on Tuesday if Ampadu is injured.

Agree, he was the only player who made a tackle all night, looks decent on the ball too.
Not sure I would pick him against the Irish butvrhink he is a player who will get a lot of caps.

This maybe both blasphemous and stupidly Fantasy Football given the inexperience but with Joe Allen looking about a third of the player he used to be (and a Stoke fan who I know and respect and who used to think Allen was equally brilliant saying he has been as bad if not worse all year), but I would consider playing Smith & Ampadu!

He misplaced a couple of passes but provided a lot more tenacity and bite when he came on and we started winning some ball in the middle of the park and looked dangerous as a result imo.
He looks like a good one.

I usually pride myself on seeing the talent come through the Welsh age grades before they hot the big time! When he came on at home versus Ireland I was like what is Giggs playing at.
But wow - what quality and composure! To make that awful mistake (and I was like what a mistake picking him away to Ireland as a starter at the time), he puts in a performance like that! What composure, bravery and mental strength!

FC Twente in action again on Monday at 7pm BST.
Their supporters are happy to have Matt back, as the team has only lost twice this season - both times, Matt was with our National team ;-)

They only got a single point out of their last two matches without Matt and their coach was saying he is much more confident with his internationals back in the team ;-) They sit 6th in the league with a chance of going 3rd with a win tonight.
UPDATE
Matt played 60 minutes in his Wales position, which is unusual for him at Twente. He is visually oozing with confidence, constantly asking for the ball and directing all his team-mates (Ampadu style). Spraying fantastic balls forward - usually with pin point precision.
They were cruising 4-0 up (away) when he came off and they have another important match on Friday.

How did he do? Really well. Brimming with confidence and instructing all his team mates from a little deeper position (just as in Wales shirt). He was often used as a winger / number 10 previously by Twente. Some of his cross field 50m passes were sublime.
Their manager was saying how important Matt is in the team - hence pulling him out after 60 minutes, for the match on Friday. The manager also spoke of his diminutive stature and said it doesn't hold him back from flying into tackles and defending deep. His match reading skills and awareness from a deeper position seem to suit him better than playing at number 10 - which he did quite well, back in September.
I am not saying that he is the full package yet - but he certainly has his 23 squad place nailed - ahead of Emyr Huws. And I am a massive fan of Emyr's.

It's certainly a good thing for Wales that he is playing deeper for Twente. We have far too many 10s at the moment (not complaining). Bale, Ramsey, Brooks, Wilson, Lawrence. Ampadu and Smith's rise to prominence couldn't be more timely.

Great. Youngsters getting a loan deal such as this is always good news. I can't stand watching youngsters fester in u23 teams especially our ones. Maybe Matondo should follow suit and head over there.

Reports that Albert Stuivenberg was there tonight again ;-) Sadly, I couldn't see the match. By all accounts, was a poor 1-0 victory. Matt was subbed after 63 minutes
Match tickets are only €12.50 - for those in the NL/Germany border area ;-)

Another excellent match, playing the full 90 minutes, after his mid-week rest. Was full of running the entire game and had three decent shots on target - one of which rattled the cross bar. The other two, were easy saves. All from 25m or so. Was played back in his original right sided mid-field. Had a decent shout for a penalty in the first half.
I will have no hesitation in starting him v Denmark
WHAT A LEGEND
