He's great in that House of the Dragon series.

Odd how similar his and Morrell's career trajectories have been, although Smith has a couple of years on Morrell. Hopefully one of them can make the step up. We're in trouble if the best we can rely on is a League 1 midfielder as Allen's ability continues to wane Levitt and Savage will likely step up and overtake them both. I can see Neco Williams playing more centrally for us too.

On the bench tonight for League One strugglers MK Dons, a bit of a concern this, his career is gradually getting worse.

I thought he was great under Giggs when he first came on the scene, but he’s continued to regress. Im not sure we should be calling him up anymore, probably should give chances to Jordan James, Terry Taylor, Lowery etc.

Back from injury in late January. Played 12' last week and got 3' today.
With all things considered, we should be grateful...

Jesus, talk about anonymous. So yeah I agree, he’s clearly not at the level needed. Mental that he got in the World Cup squad, shows how weak we are in midfield

I suspect he will make squad as who else is there? Very concerning really how weak our midfield. Terry Taylor injured; Tom lowery just coming back from injury and Jordan James hardly making an impact at Birmingham.

I can see him making wider squad for same reasons as Paj but would be bit surprised to see him on the pitch at any point. He knows what it's like to be in international camp but he's not been performing for his club recently.
Fair play to Giggs for desperately trying to get Levitt and Smith ready but it's not happened (yet) for latter, and probably not for former either.

To be honest I don't want him in the squad until he's starting games for the side fourth bottom in League One.

Not even on the bench today for MK Dons, is he injured or is this how bad it's getting now?

Seems to have gone under the radar but Matt Smith joined St Johnston on a permanent transfer last week, adding to the sizeable contingent of players we have playing up in Scotland this season. Could be a decent move to get his career back on track to be fair. Playing in the SPL (even if for a weaker team) is much better than in League Two. Probably his last chance now though - needs to do well there to have any chance of moving back up the ladder.

Looks like he's having a decent-ish season at a poor SPL side following a couple of poor season in League 1. Definitely worth monitoring, but he should either be really impressing in the SPL or doing well in League 1 / half decent in the Championship before he gets back into the Welsh squad. For me he's sitting behind the following in the pecking order as it stands:
1. Ampadu 2. James 3. Morrell 4. Sheehan 5. Levitt 6. Smith
Hopefully we'll have a Crew, King, or Raymond ready to step up within the next couple of years too.

Eli King also highly thought of Oli Ewing at Leicester (hoping he can stay fit), same year group as Charlie Savage

Sorry, young man fron Cardiff Eli?? yeah, only breaking through this season after a failed loan spell last year - he's only recently turned 21. Was doing very well in League 2 the first half of this season, earning him a second loan spell in the SPL with Ross County for the second half and has started the last 4 for them and seems to be doing well. Good chance he'll get a fair bit of minutes for Cardiff as a squad player next season

Was looking forward to seeing Matt v Rabbi, but alas Rabbi has a "small muscle issue" and out today. Tom Lawrence on the bench.
UPDATE Playing in a lot more attacking role than what we saw him play in Twente / Wales shirt. Had a couple of superb crosses that should have got him an assist already.
Tom came on at 57' - looked very lively and earned the second pen

Getting loads of minutes and a mainstay in a team in top half of SPL.
Is it not time for Craig to have a look at him?

Is it not time for Craig to have a look at him?He probably already has, and is someone who could come back into the squad at some stage it would be between him and savage for that place both are playing for their clubs in an area we are short of that in so well worth having one in the squad
