Well if he's good enough, he shouldn't really need Swansea to come in for him, he'd have interest from the rest of the league like Gallagher and Guehi did.
The Swans are in good shape now, much better than they were before the window, and their priority is never going be on Wales. They'll be more than happy with a midfield of Grimes, Byers, Gallagher, Celina and Ayew.

I wouldn't expect Swansea's priority to be Wales, but Smith would be a great addition to what is a clear weakness in defensive midfield for Swansea. Fulton and Byers lack the pace and reliable close-quarter's distribution to complement Grimes. Cooper's failure to understand the importance of rectifying this glaring weakness is one of the reason why there are many Swansea fans who are sceptical about him (myself), and others downright critical, in spite of the Swans 5th place position.

Jack Evans new contract today. He should be playing in midfield imo, either instead of or next to Grimes who has been a shadow of the player he was last season, and has looked under pressure since he took on the captaincy. A rest could do him good. Defensively Jack would offer a lot of protection in behind Ayew and Connor.
Swans 6th now. It's a false position due to the miraculous August results, and the Christmas/January fixtures being considerably kinder than the run coming up in February.

Hopefully, this is not true ;-(
"Scowen’s expected departure and Nahki Wells’ season-long loan from Burnley being scrapped mean plans to end Matt Smith’s loan spell will now be reconsidered. Smith has been unable to make an impact since arriving from Manchester City, who have been intending to send him elsewhere in the coming days."

Anyone familiar with the Charlton midfield? Any chance of seeing Matt and Jonny playing together, or is Matthew going to be a squad player?

On for last 22' to secure the away victory at Forest. Did a decent job, getting one excellent block as well as winning a very important defensive header. Matthews and Lockyer did well, as well - but I have only seen those 20'...

For me, I think it’s between Vaulks and Smith for the final midfield spot, and due to Vaulks being bang in form at the moment and Smith being on the bench for CAFC, it will take a monumental swing for Smith to get the nod in my opinion. But you never know with Giggsy opting for the youngsters

But you never know with Giggsy opting for the youngsters I do think Huws comes into the reckoning as well. Playing at the same level as Morrell in a team that's performing better than Morrell's. Getting rave reviews as well at the moment and we all know the ability he had before his injuries. For me Ampadu, Allen, Morrell are all givens. Which leaves Smith, Vaulks and Huws fighting it out, all of which are getting game time for the run in this season. For me Huws deserves a couple of friendlies given that Giggs has already seen plenty of Smith and Vaulks. King, Levitt don't factor in in my opinion.

Really don't see why Ampadu is a given and can't honestly have an informed opinion on Morrell.
The two names FIRST on team sheet next month MUST be Huws and Vaulks. Then it's Chester and Ash.
Love Smith and rate him highly. Should get 30 minutes as well

Fair point on Huws, he does deserve a friendly. I think his injury record will ultimately count against him though, with us having (at least) 3 quick fire games with an already injury prone/lacking match fitness midfield.

He got 45 mins again on Saturday!
Can we send all our youngsters to Charlton! Fair play to Bowyer - seems to back younger players and trust them
So annoying to see some of them go on loan and not get a chance - the likes of Woodburn (at Sheffield Utd), Ampadu, Matondo and Smith (at QPR). You would have thought their managers at the parent club would have secured some assurance over playing time. Look at Swansea - they do relatively well with that Welsh youngster at centre back and then fast track the Chelsea youngster in and the defence is suddenly all at sea. Hopefully he will be using up his minimum guaranteed playing time soon!

Full house at Charlton yesterday as well my mate was saying the entrance fee was £5 & they always lose when that happens.
Does anyone think with the UEFA champions league and other bans he will get his chance at Man City now?

Does anyone think with the UEFA champions league and other bans he will get his chance at Man City now? Man City have so many on the books in their academy and a lot of very talented choices at that. Whilst I think Matt is a good player I don't think he will turn into the star player that Man City will be after. Foden is supposedly one of the best English talents in the last decade and he's the only one that has made the step up to the seniors. I think Matt will likely have 1 more loan away, hopefully a full season in the Championship, and then probably be sold.

Smith could be Allen's understudy, like Allen was with Britton :-)

Don't need to be buying in Welsh qualified players. Not with a £3m-a-year academy.

Matthew in a decent 40 minute interview, last week. Not as exciting as Robbie Savage, but certainly worth a listen ;-)

If, like me, you were wondering why Matthew hasn't been featuring for Charlton, then they have let his loan lapse and allowed him to go back to City ;-(

Anyone know what's happening with Smith? Thought he was going on to good things after his Twente spell and good performances for us, but then his QPR loan was a disaster. Seems to have completely dropped off the radar in terms of club football. Clearly never going to make it at City, so surely a permanent move is on the cards?

If I were to speculate I'd say I'd like to see him back in the Netherlands as that would give him a bit of confidence having done well there before. If he could get play time at one of their teams in Europe like Willem or Feyenoord that would be amazing. If not a trip back to Twente would also be good
