Starting for their u21s in the EFL cup. Gametime I guess, but wonder what this says about a possible loan, maybe nothing.
Perhaps just prepping him for the internationals.

I was indeed shocked not seeing him in the seniors squad on the weekend, but it has now dawned on me that Pep is prioritising the cups and he needed to keep Matthew for this one!

Our game against Watford showed the huge hole we have for a pure DM when Glenn Rea is out injured. Would love him on loan.

Thought that he had another decent 60' today v ROI. In a difficult match, against many hard-nosed bullies, he kept his head and played very decent forward looking football.
If there is one consolation from today's bore-fest, its that our young players like Matt, Dylan, Morrell and Harry - that haven't had a sniff of football this year - get more minutes under their belts.
Work in Progress

In all fairness, I have been quite harsh on him over the past few matches, but he did ok today.
However we desperately need the likes of him to actually start playing regularly at club level.
It's not sustainable at the moment.

Loan move is on the table I have beem told, been a lot of offers/talks (at least 6 named clubs in Europe/UK), but again after today it could change
Its compilcated and cannot go into too much details at this time

Agree he did well today I thought. I still wanted to see him off for Jonny just to see something different but actually think he did better than Morrell

Morrell struggled a bit today - not helped by the early booking. But both him and Smith are developing into decent squad players at the very least.

Thought he had a good game. Surprised to see him going off instead of Morrel, as were the commentators.

Best showing for us since Ireland 1-0. Any news on a loan move?

Was told yesterday loan deal is done, just waiting to be given the go ahead to publish details
also to note the squad flew back straight after the game last night, and stayed over back in the UK before returning to their clubs today, as per normal

Don't understand why he struggles to get at a start in the championship. Would love him at Cardiff.

A bit dissapointing, I was hoping he’d end up in the championship. But playing football is the main thing.
Any English international would be straight into a championship squad.

He has been looking for a loan deal since late August, has had talks with several clubs Spain/Netherlands/Germany/Austria/Bulgaria - as well as 2 championship clubs, one other championship club were front runners - until manager left. Two League One clubs talks as well, with Doncaster named, talks started before Wales camp.
It's a complicated process loan deals, not the players fault, but to do with the clubs etc
All needs is regualr first team football etc

Glad he’ll hopefully get first team football, will undoubtedly help his development. Hopefully can fit Woodburn in his suitcase as well as a plus one! Hope he escapes Lerpŵl tomorrow!

I find it a bit bizarre really. I'd have Smith or Morrell at Swansea in a flash, and the former joins a League One club and the latter joins one of the Championship's poorer clubs - presumably for a pittance. I can only think its sizeism in practice. A great opportunity being squandered by savvier clubs.

As reported Matthew Smith is to complete his loan deal to Doncaster this morning. Doncaster management team know Matt Smith well from his WBA academy days. Smith will travel with the squad to Portsmouth tomorrow

Smith will travel with the squad to Portsmouth tomorrow I'd imagine that he was holding out for a guarantee of being a starter. Much better than being on the bench of a Championship club. Morrell has shown how being a regular in League One can make you a solid player at international level. Hopefully come season's end Levitt & Smith will have had plenty of time in that league and will be able to effect games like Morrell has for us

Whilst all of those players are good enough to be in Championship squads, if you're a loan player you need to be better than your direct rivals for places, as if you're only as good as them then the players who the club own permanently are going to be selected. The most important thing for him is to play regularly, and I think he'll do that at Doncaster and develop his all round game under a good manager in Darren Moore, and if all goes well there then he can be looking at coming in and being a regular at a Championship side, or earning himself a permanent move to a Championship side who would be more patient with him.

Yes Morrell has established himself so that he can make a move to the Championship which is great for us. Most of our players seem hungry for first team football even if that means dropping a level - which is great to see I knew I was forgetting someone we had in League One - Johnson is one I'll keep a close eye on. I'd hope to see him in our next friendly and I think England trying to pinch him shows how talented he is. There's a lot of players ahead of him but with a few injuries he could have an outside chance at getting into our Euros squad if he has a consistent season

I think they wanted about £1m for him but with all the Bakinson sell on's we have, we can pay £200k and cancel those to end up at £1m whereas others would have to pay the full price.

Tbf to Giggs playing in league 1 hasn't stopped him picking players with obvious quality, Morrell + Joniesta for example.
Thought Smith played well Vs Bulgaria, the main thing is he plays regularly!
