Why haven't we seen more of Smith? From his performances for us, he's probably equally as good as Morrell, and the only player out of himself, Morrell and Levitt to have actually had a good season of football. Yet we bring on Levitt? Very strange. Smith was not on the bench today- not one ofthe chosen 12.Unlucky to miss out as would have him ahead of Norrington-Davies on bench.

Agree completely.
Page seems to have made a point of picking the same 23 for all 3 games and dropping Smith, Cabango and Colwill. Doesn't make sense, unless all three are carrying an injury?

One forward, one midfielder, one defender. I suppose this proves that, if the rules would have been the usual size squad of 23, these are the three that would have missed out.

Lockyer didn't make it initially because they weren't sure on his fitness, I imagine they think he's fit enough now to be second backup or whatever he is

Given 4 other full backs Norrington-Davies would have been expendable as Neco LB or RB cover and Gunter likewise.I prefer Smith to Morrell-less physical but technically much better and easily a better passer.

Matt is being linked with a loan move to Hull in the championship. Hopefully it goes well, we need one of our young cms to kick on this season.

Good move for him. Don't think he'll make the grade at City but will be a handy player for us regardless.
Wonder what the crack is with Levitt

It will be if he plays regularly. Hopefully he’s not stuck on the bench for any length of time.

Came on with 10 mins left today and Hull 2-1 up. It finished 4-1 but no idea if Smith had a hand in the build up to the two late goals or how well he did.

Surely he is ahead of Morrell isn’t he?

Surely he is ahead of Morrell isn’t he? You'd like to think so, I've always thought he was marginally the better player. Looked great against Finland, and has done in his previous games. Let's not forget that he's also a ch'ship regular now, and was a L1 regular last season, while Morrell has barely played. Morrell is a Page fave though, so will most certainly be starting.

Should be starting, but based on selections on Wednesday I think it's pretty obvious it will be Morrell. Disagree with that one

Anyone know how Matt Smith is getting on at Hull City? My mate was very impressed with him on Saturday. Came on around 70mins, 'dictated midfield with some intricate passes'

Not bad, let's hope he can push on and get a permanent transfer to a club where he'll play, develop and shine, he's never playing for Pep.

Not sure whats happened with him. I've always thought he's looked great at international level.

Beggars belief as to why Man City persisted with domestic loans rather than capitalising on his great season with FC Twente as they gained promotion.
Hopefully a permanent move gives him some stability.
I’d have him in over Vaulks for the national team squad.

Not sure whats happened with him. I've always thought he's looked great at international level. Thought very much the same as well. Hasn't looked out of place for us when he has featured in my opinion. I think as vaulksthrowfanclub has mentioned, a bit of stability and familiarity might do him some good. Still of the opinion he'd flourish abroad.

MK Dons? I'd have him at Arsenal in a heartbeat.

Odd how similar his and Morrell's career trajectories have been, although Smith has a couple of years on Morrell. Hopefully one of them can make the step up. We're in trouble if the best we can rely on is a League 1 midfielder as Allen's ability continues to wane

The very rarely mentioned Matt Smith scored for MK Dons a few days ago, been starting sort of regularly. But strangely played on the right side of a front three on the weekend.
