FC Twente want Matt to play for them over the International break, will be interesting to see how that's handled. Although Ryan talked about the Twente match being the day after Denmark, I looked at their web site as well as Google and its at 1.30pm Sunday v Go Ahead Eagles, who are one place ahead of them on the table, on goal difference.
To be fair, the only two matches Twente lost this season, were to two when Matt was on International duty ;-)

Could perhaps play Ben Woodburn in the left of that mid-field, as he is fairly solid defensively, with Kingy in the Rambo role?

He should not be released back to his club. He should be starting in Albania, and possibly be used as a sub against Denmark.

How disappointing. It's called an international break for a reason!
He couldn't be more important for us in the Denmark game so I hope he features, even if it's just for 45 minutes.
No disrespect to them, I know they are wholly committed and they still have a place in the squad, but I don't fancy a starting line-up that includes King and Gunter.

I know we have to maintain a certain level of rapport with club managers and that but we really should be keeping Smith for both these games. The Dutch have international games too so it's not our issue that their FA is unable to work around the international breaks.

In all honesty, these FAs should be made to work around the international breaks, especially if UEFA place a lot of stock in their new Nations League pet project.

Interesting Dutch interview with Matt yesterday. Seems very diplomatic :-)
This article was after the weekend's match - really highlights how important he is to the team

You can understand Twente's frustrations. I would have him for Denmark and let him go back before Albania.
It would be a chance to try Wilson in central midfield and new boy James Lawrence as a holder with Allen or Ampadu.

Not really, it's an international break.
There should be no questions here he should be with us for both games.
Let them take it up with their own FA

They must have other players in the Dutch league on international duty, and it isn't as if they haven't been made aware of the Nations League.

No different to all the other leagues, including England, where non-top flight sides continue while the international window is on. So you can't blame the Dutch exclusively for that. However, doesn't change the fact that he should stay with us for the whole break.

I'm not blaming them for the same issues across Europe.

This is great to hear from Matty, sees Wales as the priority and wants to impress Giggs. Seems to have his head screwed on and conducts himself well.

An 18 year old that talks like a 30 odd year old old pro that's been around the game for years, impressive.

Didn't see tonight's game, but Twente lost 2-1 with Matt playing the full 90 minutes. Perhaps more pressure on Matt to feature for them next Sunday? Hope not.

If he is available for the full 90 minutes against Denmark I don’t really see an issue letting him withdraw for the Albania game, give someone else a chance to step up. He’s a good player but he’s not integral to the squad yet, it’d hurt us more if he lost his place at Twente than if he missed the Albania match.

Smith looks just as good as Ampadu when I've seen him play.

Smith looks just as good as Ampadu when I've seen him play. I agree. Seen him 5 or 6 times now for Twente. Very solid and gaining rave reviews constantly.

Twente's league is league 1 standard at best

Twente's league is league 1 standard at best With the absence of Lee Evans and Emyr Huws and with the lack of playing time / recovery from injury of Ethan - Smith is our number one defensive midfielder, ahead of Kingy for me.
Smith could be playing on Mars, for all I care. He is a solid / reliable / quality player ;-)

His performance in front of our own eyes for Wales are enough to judge him on imo. Aside from 1 error v Republic, e has been solid and arguably one of our best players, aside from Brooks.

Twente's league is league 1 standard at best At least he's playing regularly in an adult professional league. Which Ampadu isn't.

Twente's league is league 1 standard at best How does that compare to u23 football which is where he could reasonably be playing.

Started at 7pm and its 1-1 already ... No commentary ;=(
EDIT HALF TIME Very open and exciting match. 1-3 to Jong Ajax at HT. Matt was really brilliant for first 25 minutes, with fantastic late runs and two exquisite passes, that should have been goals. The entire team were a little over-run thereafter. Matt playing on the right of mid-field, but with a lot of box-to-box energy.
Really can not imagine him not being snapped up by a Premier League team in a year, or maximum two.
