Brian Flynn has named a 17 man squad for the game against Austria.
One other player will be added to the squad after this weekend's matches.
Wales squad: Goalkeepers: David Cornell (Swansea City), Chris Maxwell (Wrexham).
Defenders: Neal Eardley (Blackpool), Aaron Morris (Cardiff City), Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City), Ashley Richards (Swansea City), Ashton Taylor (Tranmere Rovers), Neil Taylor (Wrexham).
Midfielders: Billy Bodin (Swindon Town), Nathan Craig (Everton), Ryan Doble (Southampton), Lloyd James (Southampton), Joe Partington (Bournemouth).
Forwards: Elliott Chamberlain (Leicester City), Hal Robson-Kanu (Reading), Jake Taylor (Reading), Casey Thomas (Swansea City).
Stand by players: Jonathan Bond (Watford), James Bloom (Falkirk), David Stephens (Norwich City), Lee Lucas (Swansea City), Richard Peniket (Fulham).
Hal Robson-Kanu qualifies for Wales through his grandmother (born in Caerphilly).
A few suprises here, recall for James after nearly a year out for no apparent reason. No Bradley, Wilson, Rhys Taylor or Mcdonald. Never heard of the kid Hal Robson Kanu, thought maybe Kerry Morgan would have had a call up and no doubt some senior players will travel to boost striker options

www.laola1.tv/de/at/fussball/oefb-nationalteam/u21-team-schlaegt-wales-ohne-zu-glaenzen/video/26--23592.htmlwas at the game- bit of a non event. Generally quite even and needed a terrible mistake from Chris Maxwell for the deadlock to be broken.. although to be fair he had only just come on- strange time to substitute the keeper. 3 players really stood out for me- Christian Ribeiro -this boy is a class act- he just looks like a proper footballer. Big, strong, good touch. Should go on to be a much better centre back than Ryan Shawcross, so I'm not bothered that the Chester clogger wants to play for England Hal Robson Kanu- played on the wing. Not particularly fast or tricky but again big and strong with a good touch. Reminded me a bit of James Milner...but taller. Neil Taylor- always wants the ball and doesn't make mistakes. too good for the conference- Swansea would be a good move for him- I reckon he'd thrive at championship level.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/league_of_wales/8858290.stmBit suprised one of Church, Evans and Vokes isn't in there- thought it would do one of them good to get 90 mins rather than limited time for the seniors v Luxembourg. Also, no Marc Williams- not even on stand by, so the squad doesn't look the strongest in the striking department. Hal Robson Kanu looks a very fine player, but more of a winger than striker. Oh well, I suppose it's time to try and push the younger ones through. Talking of which, I have just watched most of Spain v England U19 in the EURO semi final. Finished 3 -1, Spain looked excellent, England limited. It's encouraging that in qualifying last year we only lost 1-0 to Spain (in Spain too), so maybe our U19s are better than Englands

A draw, I think.
Or a Bosnia win.

B & H win, ideally. They're bottom of the group, if I recall, whereas Hungary are challenging at the top along with ourselves and Italy.

They're bottom of the group, if I recall, whereas Hungary are challenging at the top along with ourselves and Italy. a Bosnia win would put them just 3 points behind us, with 2 matches left - it would then be a four-way contest for the play-offs A Bosnia win wouldn't be a bad result - but it makes Bosnia a threat to us too

A Hungary win = Wales would still need 4 points to win the group
A Bosnia win = Wales would need a win over Italy OR a win over Hungary and a draw with Italy to win the group
A draw = Wales would win group with 2 draws

Kicks at 6pm UK time. Wales have put a few past these in recent years but a few new players may make their debuts so lets see.
Wales line up named as 1. Jonathan Bond (Watford), 2. Ashley Richards (Swansea City), 3. Neil Taylor (Swansea City), 4. Mark Bradley (Rotherham United), 5. David Stephens (Hibernian), 6. Aaron Morris (Aldershot Town), 7. Billy Bodin (Swindon Town), 8. Joe Partington (Bournemouth), 9. Hal Robson-Kanu (Reading), 10. Jake Taylor (Reading), 11. Shaun MacDonald (Swansea City) (Cap)
Anyone got any links for a live stream??

I think a stream would be especially unlikely, but I shall check the usual suspects.
Also, on the subject of the named side- has anyone spotted the deliberate mistake?

Flynn hasn't named a striker. The choices made imply he will play a 4-2-3-1, and that one of the attacking midfielders/wingers will be pushed up front.

Probably Robson-Kanu will play as a lone striker, think he came on against Croatia in May and played up front, could be wrong though!!

Its a fascinating group because everyone apart from Luxembourg is still in contention. A Bosnia win would make it so tight between the other four teams. I think a draw would suit us best. Something that might really be to our advantage is our goal difference of plus 9. Italy have plus 5 I think, Hungary and Bosnia around 1. Luxembourg have completed all their games already too, so I don't see the goal difference changing dramatically between now and the end. I still think every other team would love to be in our postion- it's still in our hands.

Even though he looks more of a winger to me, Robson- Kanu looks like he has the height, strength and skill to do well as a lone striker. It'll be interesting to see how the strikers are divided up between the senior squad and the U21s for the qualifiers next month. I mean, I don't see the point of Simon Church sitting on the bench for 90mins in Montenegro when he could be playing an important match for the U21s.

Flynnfan, I think positions are decided by head-to-head records before goal difference. We've got the best record in our matches with Bosnia (3-2), we're 4-1 up on Hungary after 1 game and 2-1 up on Italy.

Finished 1-1. Poor result really, even if its a young side. The Malta side must be full of ametuer players surely??

A bit disappointing but that was the sort of score I was expecting. I don't think we had even ONE first choice 21 player in the team, so it was virtually a U21 B team. I really thought that with Evans, Church, Vokes and Marc Williams out we'd struggle to score goals. Robson- Kanu looks more of a winger than striker and the young strikers in the squad don't look quite ready for U21 level yet from what I've seen of them.
You know who got our goal?

Oh, cheers for that scoop. Still, I suppose you could see it as a very positive thing that we've got a better goal difference than Italy after 6 games? (and they've played Luxembourg twice too)
