I know very little about this guy (albeit I watched the second half of Wales U21 vs Switzerland U21, but Man City and Celtic are apparently after him. He is still 19 (almost 20) and looks a useful height - 6ft 1inch www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/4430033/manchester-city-boss-pep-guardiola-chasing-swansea-defender-joe-rodon-dubbed-the-welsh-john-stones/Goodness would be a dream if he develops into a class centre back alongside Ampedu. Seems like we are going to experience the next batch of promising youngster in the next 2 years. I know they say things come in cycles but how on earth can we have a Tsunami of talent turn into a relative famine over the last 6-7 years and now we have a wave of exciting talent seemingly washing in to shore again?

I reckon he's taller than 6'1. I like the look of him. Captains the u21s now which is a very good sign. He should definitely stay with Swansea. Luckily they are category one.

With Bartley injured he may well make the bench today. Still a long way from regular first team football at Swansea.
Could do with a loan next season, hopefully more successful than Keston Davies' loan has started at Yeovil (subbed at halftime in first games with team 5-0 down.

A loan deal to Celtic could potentially be great for him. Can see the Siggy/Lorente less Swans struggling this season and getting relegated. Talk on their forum of Americans wanting money back so can expect more sales next Summer and possibly even sale of club. Given this and loss of loanees, Rodon would have a good chance of game time for the Swans who would not be top half in Championship I'd imagine.

Great to see clubs interested in the lad. Hope he stays at Swansea and breaks through there though. I mean a citeh player just left for Dortmund, because he had no chance breaking through. Celtic another good club though, will get chances there - good stepping stone for his career.

Not wanting to spite the Swans, but I do sometimes wonder if Welsh football might benefit more if they did get relegated? It's a complicated question I suppose. Rodon isn't the only Welsh player who could benefit possibly?

I'm believing in that argument less and less these days. I do think that used to be the case. But the PL bad never been more saturated with talent. Even German clubs are for the first time looking for bargain neglected English talent which I think shows a sea change. Also didn't Ben Davies get his chance because of an injury crisis?

With the amount of departures in last 12 months not many more Welsh players would benefit.Cian Harries and Dan James are only current others. Maybe in 12 months Liam Cullen, Aaron Lewis and Jack Evans. However the Huw Jenkins tactic of raiding Falkirk and buying foreign younsters limiting Welsh game time in U23s even-only 2 Welsh starters Monday night-could even hold back Welsh youngsters in Championship. Joke is most of these buys are sold or released due to not being good enough.

When Neil Taylor got injured Laudrup went to the Youth team and found the only left footed full back in Ben Davies. He did extremely well to stay in the side which was all his own doing but his first break was sheer luck. Not enough youngsters are given that one chance to shine in the first team which is the problem.

I was hoping he'd make the bench at least tonight. This competition is the perfect chance to give promising youngsters a go. Disappointing.

Swansea with no Welsh youngsters yet again in the match squad, surely they it would better looking to the future instead of playing a 34 year old.

Makes absolutely no sense to play Rangel ahead of a promising youngster. I worry for these kids at Swansea. Surely this was the best chance to give some of the kids an opportunity to shine and prove that they can mix it in the first team.

Swansea have limited options available in the full back positions and I suspect that giving Angel Rangel a game was all about keeping him match fit in case he is needed for Premier League games. If Swansea had cover and were flying, I suspect things would be different, but they need to make sure the team is telling and the new players are settling in.

Rodon played the full 90 minutes the previous day against Spurs U23s. The gulf between U23 and Premier League football is enormous, so I don't expect Rodon to be given chances any time soon. Swansea have conceded a fair few goals at U23 level this season so he needs to make his case at that level first. However, with Bartley being out long-term a run of injuries and suspensions at centre back could see him being given a chance.

I hope that rumour of a loan move to Celtic comes to fruition, even though the standard isn't amazing, he is still playing 1st team football and anything is better than the under 23's at the minute, just look at Wilson and Woodburn. I'd say even playing in League 1 is better than that

The Crackity bench watch continues.
Joe Rodon makes the match day squad today. I know, I had to do a double take to be sure.

Does anyone know anything about him? What type of player is he? I watched Wales U21 play versus Switzerland but did not really notice him (which is maybe a good thing for a centre back!)

Gone to Cheltenham on loan Not very encouraging that he has gone down to such a low level Joe Allen, Rob Earnshaw and Frank Lampard all went on loan to a similar level and they worked out alright? The move will hopefully make him. All of Wales will have their fingers crossed because we are in desperate need of a CB!

Does need to be starting games in his loan spell to really benefit from it.

Dropped to the bench again this weekend. Really disappointed with his progress so far, was hoping he’d be at the same level as Mepham by now.
