Dropped to the bench again this weekend. Really disappointed with his progress so far, was hoping he’d be at the same level as Mepham by now. It really is. Morrell on the other hand sounds like a pivotal player for them. Joe really needs the right loan next year. Maybe Swansea should insist on appearances next time.

If he was good enough they would pick him. Clubs like Cheltenham can't afford to waste money so they will be gutted with his impact, or lack of it.

Of course what you're saying completely makes sense. What doesn't make sense to me is how there are a couple of players who don't get a sniff of u21 selection, yet are getting game time a division up. Also I always thought that Rodon always looks like one of our best performers for Wales youth. Loan periods are often not an ideal for players I feel. The loaning club has less interest to nurture the player as an asset compared to players permanently contracted.

Swans fans - how did Joe do on his champ debut? Full game and clean sheet feel like a good sign...

Swans fans - how did Joe do on his champ debut? Full game and clean sheet feel like a good sign... I thought he was really good, great positioning, knew when to challenge for the ball and went to stand off, and also had the right balance between hoofing it and playing it out. Seems a really composed head. Really hope he gets a run in the team now. Connor Roberts was also very solid, all good on the Welshmen front

Great to see him finally get a chance in the first team, sounds like he did well. Would be even better to see him cement his place like Mepham has at Brentford.

Swansea have sold all their centre backs except one so I imagine he will be first choice for the entire season. Great news for Wales that Swansea will potentially have 3/4 welsh players in their back line

Hope so but they will sign a centre half or 2 on loan.

Swansea will sign one CB at most, so Rodon (and possibly Harries) are likely to get significant game time this season. Potter could be the perfect coach to bring their careers on.
With a bit of luck the CB that Swansea sign is Ethan Ampadu - not least because of the cover needed in front of the defence. I get the impression that Chelsea may be keeping him - which would be a great shame all-round because no matter how good you are players need game time to gain match fitness.

Think Ampadu is staying put.
Also think they will sign someone with experience.

Was very good again last night. Looks massive and not easily pushed off ball.

Didn't see the game but a clean sheet is promising. On the flip side Birmingham are a poor championship team and still managed to create a lot of chances.
From a Welsh point of view Rodon playing is a massive bonus.
18 months ago couldn't see a centre half emerging. Now we have Mepham and Ampadu ready and Rodon emerging.

I watched the game and thought Rodon was promising, but it was a mixed performance. He was quite dominant in the air, decent with the ball at feet and did a lot of good things, but he also got caught out a couple of times which a better team would probably have punished. Hopefully he will get at least 20 starts this season and then we can make a pretty good judgement on where he's at.

Hopefully gets 20+ starts and improves. Looks like we may have a gem on our hands!

I thought Rodon looked very composed last night against a strong Leeds side. Could have done a bit better with Leeds' equaliser but overall I thought that he had a very good game.

I was at the liberty last night and really liked what I saw. I agree with the comments above. The good news is that the mistakes made will decrease with game time at that level.
The strength of depth for the national side is looking good again.

I've been a bit cautious about praising Joe Rodon before last night - but after last night's showing I think "this guy's going to make it". A bit reckless perhaps based on a handful of games, but even with that mistake near the end (although Van Der Hoorn was the main culprit) he looks the part. On a couple of occasions he made runs deep into Leeds territory - and made sure that he delivered a safe ball in the end. In the air he's terrific. He just has that hard to quantify "looks the part" quality to him.
It's still early days of course, but along with Mepham and Ampadu the future is looking rosy at centre back for Wales.

It is, and two years ago we were concerned that there was no depth at centre back, how quickly things can change.

He did look decent last night, however were you saying the same about Walsh a few years ago?
Swansea may sign a centre half and we may not see Rodon again.
Hopefully he can be consistent and keep his place and come Xmas we could start getting our hopes up

He won't be picked for the seniors just yet, but great to see our u21's are now starting to fill with players playing League football every week!

Hopefully he can be consistent and keep his place and come Xmas we could start getting our hopes up I don't recall saying anything particularly flattering about Walsh. I like to base my assessments on what I've actually seen of a player - not on third party reports. Up to the Leeds game I've been equivocal about Rodon, and even now it's by no means certain he'll progress to the point where he becomes an established Welsh international. But against Leeds (and his two previous games for Swansea in the Championship to a lesser extent) he showcased qualities (composure on the ball, decisive tackling, commanding in the air) that suggest he has what it takes. The biggest unknown is the mental side of things - and how he deals with adversity, which will inevitably come his way. But, if I had to nail my colours to the mast I'd say that within five years Rodon (if he stays clear of injury) will be an established Wales squad player at least. As for Swansea signing a centre half (Spurs' Carter-Vickers, also 20 years old is being lined up on loan) - that will still only leave Swansea with one experienced centre half (as opposed to four last season) and three rookies - if you include Harries. Even if Carter-Vickers takes Rodon's place in a back four, Potter likes to play three at the back, so I see Rodon getting plenty of game time - if his performances continue to merit it. If there's a spate of injuries and suspensions Rodon and Harries may well get game time regardless of form.

There's a great pic of him and Roberts applauding the crowd with potter looking on with pride. Hopefully the two of them will play a full season in or around the first XI. Out of interest who would be the next Welsh kid likely to feature in the starting XI? Cian Harries possibly?

Out of interest who would be the next Welsh kid likely to feature in the starting XI? Cian Harries possibly? Dan James or Cian I reckon. Cian has played quite a lot of senior football already and Swansea are a bit low on CB’s. It’d be nice to see Dan James get an opportunity, but I’m not sure he is ready judging by his brief cameo against Birmingham.

Another very assured performance today.
Great decision making for a twenty year old.
Seems to know when to play the ball and when to find row Z.

It was, he played either side of the international break, like many players before him. Some get slated some don't People only get stick when they consistently pull out due to injury, but then miraculously recover for their club e.g. what Giggs did for 10-15 years. Rodon did pick up a knock mid-game prior to the international break, and as far as I'm aware he doesn't have a record of consistently pulling out of our youth sides. So it isn't comparable at all
