It's a big call early on, but I think he'll become an all time great - he's the most complete modern defender we've ever had.

He'll be worth north of 80million in next 3-5 years

Congratulations on wearing the captains arm band ... but a minute into that you gave them a goal ;-( Still. Well done Think giving them a goal was harsh. That ball was just weighted beautifully. Maybe he might have stopped it if he realised quicker that he wasn't going to be able to head it and just tracked Pukki but I think he just got done by the quality of the delivery.

I’ve watched that goal about 60 times!!! Pukki was a genius. Really. The first touch was sheer magic. It reminded me of the Cantona movie where the guy asks Cantona what was his favourite goal but Cantona replies ‘it was a pass’. Pukki’s finish was sloppy actually. Ward was lopsided. But the first touch was too die for.

In contention now to step up for the injured Alderweireld next week away to Chelsea.

This sounds promising:
José Mourinho on defender Toby Alderweireld’s injury sustained:
"It is bad. It is a muscular injury.”
"We have three centre-backs in the Premier League but not in the Europa League where we do not have Joe Rodon. There's nobody to blame."
Given he clearly doesn't trust sanchez, you would think Rodon's in prime position to start a few games

He may have to use Sanchez in the Europa League, but given he can't use Rodon in that competition he may favour using Rodon in the league. Great to see him get some time against a top team last night. Knew he'd get a chance sooner rather than later - great opportunity to potentially hold down a place

The word is that he's expected to start today against Chelsea, alongside Eric Dier.

Would've been completely different had Giroud scored at the end. Apart from that one error very good match and looks comfortable among the very best

Mourinho:
"We are not even in the race so we are not a horse. We are the small, young horse - a pony. We are just a pony, and you see the difference. Joe Rodon was playing for Swansea; Thiago Silva was for many years and still is one of the best centre-backs in the world. And maybe one month of Thiago's salary pays Joe a year's salary. So, calm.
I'm very happy with Joe, very happy with the profile, and to be with my amazing coaching staff - Joao [Sacramento], Ledley [King], all these guys - coaching and teaching these guys, and working with Joe has been a pleasure.
I just feel sorry he can't play in the Europa League because it would be a great level of experience for him, and I believe the biggest game he played before this one was Championship play-offs and a Wales national team match, so I'm very pleased that he could come here and for 90 minutes he made one mistake.
Dier made more mistakes than him, especially in ball possession, so I'm very happy with my team, very happy with my guys, very happy with this mentality - that we come to Stamford Bridge, we get a point, we are top of the league, and we are not happy."

He actually made two bad errors, at either end of the match. Early doors he was caught in possession and Werner scored a goal that was correctly adjudged to be marginally offside. Then there was the header at the end - awkward because the ball over the top reared up on him, but still a poor effort. But in between he grew into the game and had a good tussle with Abraham. One mazy dribble into the heart of the Chelsea midfield showed he wasn't fazed at all by his early error. His distribution was generally assured.
There was nothing in that display to suggest he won't be anything but comfortable playing for a top 6 club.

Twitter pretty mean to Joe. But that’s why we shouldn’t read into Twitter. Clean sheet at Stanford Bridge. Thank you very much

Yeah there were 2 mistakes but playing away to Chelsea, one of the in form teams in the league, and making your debut to only make 2 errors is a pretty good start to life. His overall performance was great and he gave Abraham absolutely nothing. He'll be all the better for having made those errors and both were easily correctable

Twitter pretty mean to Joe. But that’s why we shouldn’t read into Twitter. Clean sheet at Stanford Bridge. Thank you very much Besides his two errors which he fully owned up to, I didn't see too many hating on him. There of course were the gimps giving it the "Why is he starting? Swansea LOL!", but nothing actually worthy of concern. To ignore what the fans of a player's club are saying about them is to completely bury your head in the sand though.

Given Sergio Reguilón broke lockdown rules to attend a party, I imagine Spurs will suspend him. Could mean Ben Davies returning to Left back and Joe getting another opportunity...

Given Sergio Reguilón broke lockdown rules to attend a party, I imagine Spurs will suspend him. Could mean Ben Davies returning to Left back and Joe getting another opportunity... They're playing with a back-4 with dier and alderweireld first choice. They've only played a back-5 a couple of times this season and, from memory, had poor results each time, so we may not see much more of it. We need one of dier or alderweireld to miss a few games for rodon to get another shot

Starts today vs Sheffield United Davinson Sanchez was at fault for the goal in the last game - not surprised Mourinho has switched it up. Joe has done well when started and they have a good defence record when he starts, wouldn't surprise me to see him get more games if he does well today

Joe has done well when started and they have a good defence record when he starts, wouldn't surprise me to see him get more games if he does well today If things go well today then there's every chance, particularly because they're playing a back five which they might stick with if they get a good result. I'm hoping Rodon plays in the middle of the three, with Ben on the left, as it's where they're both at there best in my opinion.
