Only English footy fanboy, ignoratti ever doubted the league! Scottish perennial failure to qualify for the group stage of the champions league when up against the minnows of Europe puts into context where the league is in the grand scheme of things. Once upon a time they used to qualify semi regularly, now it’s once in a blue moon when they do. It was also about the only league that Simon Church could score in regularly so I’m struggling to buy into a narrative that it’s anywhere near a hotbed of football talent. The Scottish national team is not exactly a ringing endorsement either as they famously had not qualified for some 20 years prior to Euro 2020 and even then their qualifying campaign had to take advantage of the play off route because they fell short the standard way. |
