still feel it should be ash williams instead of the lad though, has everyone forgotten the euro's this quickly? No. However Ash isn't playing regular football and always seems off the pace when this is the case. Mepham is starting in the premier league and looked very composed on Sunday. Ash needs to find a club where he will start most weeks.

Experience is vital and that's why him and Gunter and possibly Ledley will have a part to play in qualification. However, dont think they merit starting at the moment.

None of these 3 players are playing at the moment. All 3 could be playing regularly in the championship next season so see what happens. I did indicate Ledley was less likely. Ledley also has vast experience so do we throw that away or isn't he lifting enough weight.

Do your fans see him as part of the first team, or would you put Cook and Ake in front of him?

Do your fans see him as part of the first team, or would you put Cook and Ake in front of him? Difficult to say...at the moment, I think Howe's preferred CB pairing would be Ake/Cook. I personally would have Cook above Mepham, but not by a huge amount. Having said that, Cook is probably out for the rest of the season, so if Mepham can continue to impress in the next few games, there's every chance he could start next season as first choice alongside Ake.

Could be with Cook.
Mepham may have been signed to replace a departing Ake.

Could be with Cook. Mepham may have been signed to replace a departing Ake. From what I've seen of Ake, he is really in a league of his own - certainly ahead of Meps in any pecking order. Despite his young age (24), Meps can learn a lot from Ake.
Havn't seen Cook, but it is reassuring to hear (from a Welsh prespective) that he is not heading back into the team anytime soon

oh dear. watching the bournemouth game and mepham was quite weak for the first burnley goal, although not mainly at fault. The second goal, however, was an absolute howler from Mepham. He needs to cut out those mistakes

Sadly, Meps gets bullyed a little too easy for both Burn;ey goals. First was a header, where he lost his mark and second he was pushed out of the way.
Brooks had an easy oppertunity to make it 2-0, but missed a simple 1 on 1 ;-(

Mepham's having a shocker

Mepham's having a shocker Its not the first time that he seems to allow himself to get bullyed around, especially in the air, but also in close contact in the box.
For a lad his size, its quite alarming. Especially with real physical battles facing us in June ;-(
I said it before and I'll say it again - dont just wave your hands in the air asking for stuff - ACT and PLAY THE BALL!
In that respect at least, Joe Rodon is a better player.

He is 21 and playing in the epl. The last thing you can expect is consistency.

Yeah that was by far Mepham's worst game for us yet haha. Right from the off, he seemed a bit nervy; was constantly moving around in the back 4, charging after wide players and getting pulled out of position (seemingly for no reason). The less said about the 2nd goal the better.
I don't know if perhaps winning Player of the Month made him try a bit too hard, rather than just sitting back and calming it down a bit?

Also has to be said that the Burnley game was the worst I've seen Bournemouth play in the Premier League, so it wasn't exactly a good scenario for Mepham to perform in. We generally don't boo the players; I've seen them flop to 0-5 defeats at home to teams like Spurs and still get clapped off, and the crowd were absolutely hammering them at the end.

Bit of an update on Mepham; he played well against Brighton, obviously keeping the clean sheet, in a relatively steady, 7/10 performance.
What I will say is that Steve Cook also returned a bit earlier than expected, and had a brilliant game, however, this could actually help Mepham in the next few games; as Cook is a natural leader and seasoned player at this level and can help Mepham develop (as good as Ake is, he's not really a vocal leader on the pitch like Cook is). Ake played LB, and Mepham stayed in the role of RCB alongside Cook. I'd imagine this is how we'll line up for the next few games, or possibly in a back 3.
Bit of a negative for me is that Mepham got involved in a pretty stupid and pointless altercation with Andone of Brighton, shoving him and then "headbutting" him. Was a bit unnecessary and he probably should have been sent off if we're being consistent with what's usually given. I'm all for defenders leaving a bit in on opposition players to put them off, but you need to be a bit cuter than that.

like i said on here before but got shot down for. ashley williams is the strongest player in the welsh team. he beasts the free weights room at camp and he clearly won't be bullied by strikers unlike mempham
