At least he can't be blamed for their recent results.. 😱 Bournemouth having a meltdown! Missing Dave? Must admit that their team looked quite poor v City last week. Or maybe it was the bluebirds that made them look poor. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if Maps will be in the starting 11 soon ;-)

Starts for Bournemouth today. Big news. Pob lwc Chris! Early days ... but had a bit of a stinker in first 30' ;-(
Has settled in a little and showing a little flair going forward as well.
EDIT Improved, as the match progressed. So did the entire defence, despite ending only 1-1. Hopefully, Eddie Howe will need to keep Meps in the starting line-up due to injuries, and he will slowly improve

Yes, the bbc updates made it out as if he were having a mare in the first half. However, I've just searched his name on twitter and bournemouth fans are raving about him, many saying he was their motm.

However, I've just searched his name on twitter and bournemouth fans are raving about him, many saying he was their motm. That's good to hear. I am sure they realise how young he is and appreciate his potential. Ake was MOTM without a shadow of a doubt. Happy that he didn't go to the Arsenal in that case ;-)
One thing that surprised me today and I seem to remember from his Brentford days as well, was that for a fella of his stature, he is quite easily bullied in the box when in the air... Very sharp contrast to Joe Rodon there...

Proof of the pudding will be if he starts the next game. If he does.....happy days Think two of their regular defenders are out injured, so he has a decent chance to start again. Quite honestly, the praise was not fully deserved. Loads of promise and a lot of determination, but far too many mistakes in the first half ;-(

Just off the top of my head, in the first half he gave the ball away twice in defence with both times almost leading to a goal. He misplaced two forward passed that lead to counter-attacks. Mistimes a tackle that lead to a free kick and clearly handled a ball in the area, which the ref didn't spot. At least twice lost easy aerial headers in the box. His 1st half for me was 4/10. And that is generous. Second half was 6.5/10. Man of the Match today he was not. Hopefully, in March at the CCS, he will be!

I think we all need to remember that he is a 20 year old making his first start in the Premier League

We have a 20 yr old playing centre half in the premiership and another one who is more than capable (Ampadu). Also Rldon who has done well in the championship.
After the Euros this was the position that concerned me the most.
Going forward a back 5
Roberts Davies Rodon Ampadu Mepham

Nothing in my write-up should suggest that he is not an excellent player. He just had a very poor 30 minutes. I simply hope he will get another 2 or 3 full matches under his belt before Slovakia.

Meps starting again at the Emirates. Probably had huge sigh of relief when he saw that he is facing Mesut Ozil and not Rambo ;-)

Good to see Brooks on the bench too. Well spotted! That's a massive difference from Eddie Howe's quote earlier this morning ;-)))

Looks like I must have ginxed it ;-( Mesut played like a man on a mission ... Meps seems to be half a yard short of full fitness. No major blocks or clearances of note. Can only improve ;-)

Must have done well today Aguero drew a blank Yes. He did. Especially good in the air today - so he must have done a fair bit of work on that. I still don't like the way he keeps waving his hands in the air and appealing for every contact that is made on him (as well as the customary offsides). Just play the ball and carry on until the ref decided otherwise... Even in the space of three games, massive improvement.

Good news, as it will allow Ash to play on his more natural left side.

Getting a quality defensive unit is key to our qualification hopes going forward into the next 2 tournaments. Extraordinary to think we haven't the euro qualification but we're less than 18 months away from the start of the next world cup qualifiers.

Watching the game back last night, again, Mepham's a bit of a beast isn't he? I hadn't noticed how strong and bullish he is, but for a tall lad he's a lot more physical than what I thought he is. Wrestling with Slovakian players, leaving a few afters and very comfortable on the ball.

still feel it should be ash williams instead of the lad though, has everyone forgotten the euro's this quickly?

still feel it should be ash williams instead of the lad though, has everyone forgotten the euro's this quickly? Perhaps, instead of Lawrence I would've thought. But both players did a solid job. Ash has had a rough years, but don't understand why some people have completely written him off. Would you still say the same thing about Gunter, HRK (if still available), Vokes, Ledley (if selected)? All of those were first choice in the euro's as well, but I wouldn't start them now.

It's Mepham's shirt to lose now. He'll be partnering Chester or Lawrence for the rest of the campaign if fit.

96% pass accuracy in the Slovakia, and made the most passes of all Welsh players. Most safe passes of course, but still says something about his composure on the ball. By no means the finished article - but all being well he should start the next double header. Long term Mepham and Rodon will probably be the centre back partnership, but that might not be until the next set of qualifiers.
