Agent Mepham doing his bit for the Swansea revival

It was interesting to compare Mepham with Rodon. Mepham hit one glorious cross-field pass, but didn't particularly catch the eye, apart from his unfortunate but rather clumsy own goal. Rodon had a typical game, assured, strong in the air. Mind you he failed to make much of a good headed opportunity to put the game to bed - not the first time he's failed with presentable opportunities. I think both will be Premier League players within a couple of seasons - but of the two Rodon looks, marginally, the classier of the two, with his pace and assured distribution.

Couldn't find a thread on Mepham but it looks like Southampton and Bouremouth are fighting for him at around £15 million. It would be great to see him play regularly in the Premier League

He would be perfect at Bournemouth considering the link with Brooks, the type of football they play, and their weakness in centre defence meaning that he would likely get game time - maybe not as first choice initially as they already have Ake and Cook, but it wouldn't take long

Comment from a (probably) Brentford fan on the BBC article linking Mepham with a move to Bournemouth:
"Very good player with massive potential. I’d say a Welsh John Stones. Very mature and grounded. Worth the money. The goals leaked by Brentford were more to do with system and (GK) errors. All changed for the good now."
Strange that, because I've previously likened Joe Rodon to a Welsh John Stones. Not that I rate John Stones that highly, but we could do a lot worse than having a couple of John Stones' at the heart of our defence.

As I was saying on another thread, you see some good players improve massively when they complete a move to a more competitive club. Such a move can transform a good player into a brilliant one, or an average one into a decent one. Sterling and Stones are examples of players who have improved a lot over the past six or seven months under Guardiola's tutelage. So I'll grit my teeth and say that to be compared to Stones, isn't too bad a comparison atm.

Chris Mepham escalated quickly! Virtually unknown around 12 months ago, to now Prem player. Amazing.
Will he get enough game time though? I don't know what Bournemouth's current defenders are like.
I'd imagine he'd cost 30mil+ if he was English.

Officially done deal. A massive bargain at £12m. Talk of Chris been turned into a defensive midfielder. Good luck, Meps!

A defensive midfielder? Really? With his stature and build I can't see it - then again Matic is a bit of an unit. Excellent move. A club of Bournemouth can't sign players for £12 million and not play him. He will be competing for a place in the starting eleven from day one - the rest is up to him.

Provided he gets game time, this is potentially brilliant for him - and us. And he might be playing with his mate David. Our players have been finding their form or getting promoted in recent months. Well done Meps. Now it's Harry's turn.

I'd imagine he'd cost 30mil+ if he was English. Bull. The most expensive young English centre back this season is Ben Wilmot to Watford, for a whopping fee of £1.5m. A non-like-for-like comparison would be James Maddison, who cost Leicester £20m or Josh Murphy to Cardiff for £10m, but then attacking players do tend to command greater fees. Great move for him though, onwards and upwards!

Also I'd argue that great defenders are more highly sort of these days, as there is a shortage in the market.

Afraid Dai is correct, look at the pressure Declan Rice came under, from David Gold at West Ham, to declare for England, easily triples value of a player if capped for England and getting game time.
Talked to dad of one our players playing in championship. Club does everything they can to avoid releasing for an ROI game, it is not just us, they act the same with players from other countrys as well.
However one player there got called up to England Under 21 and club couldn't do enough for him in letting him join the squad.
Having an England player also gets them cash from FA.

Made his Premier League debut today. I didn't see the game.. How was he? Brilliant result for Bournemouth and Brooks (scoring against a team that includes Hazard is no mean feat!). Chelsea appear to be going through some mid-term crisis...

Mepham on for the last 10 mins. Wouldn’t be surprised if he starts soon with the state of Bournemouth’s defence.
