I think Chris Mepham is going to be the best bet to replace Williams in time.

Captained our last u21 game which is a great sign that Page and co rate him as a player, personality and as a Welshman. As a poster said on here, one CB injury at Brentford and he's a first team championship player and could bump the cue towards senior consideration.
He sounds about as Welsh as Delboy but he talks a good Welsh game on 3.00 minutes in this interview...

The way he speaks about Wales is very encouraging, sounds very committed!

Hopefully he will get plenty of games in the second half of the season with Brentford likely to be in mid table.
We are desperate for a decent centre half so can see Ampadu playing there for us if someone else doesn't come through

Starts again for Brentford tonight. Good to see him getting plenty of senior experience under his belt in a very competitive league.

Encouraging this.... Dean Smith pays tribute to Chris Mepham after sublime performance at Norwich www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dean-smith-pays-tribute-chris-14075864Some quotes from a Brentford forum... This kid is the real deal. Egan has a real battle on his hands to ever get his shirt back.... Quality.. B-e-a-utiful performance unless it's not to push him to hard, this kid should not lose his place. Fantastic Getting way ahead of myself here, but shame he's decided he's Welsh! I walked out of the Boro away game thinking I’d seen the future, I really think we have a good one here. Magnificent performance, won every header, took control of the ball and generally bossed it. Made Bjelland look like the inexperienced B team player, which believe me is hard considering how well he also played He's a phenomenal talent and you just get the sense that now he's been afforded his first real opportunity, the inclination will be to persist with him. He is very much the future, and a wonderfully cultured footballer. He could be a very special player

A talented prospect, good luck to him and hopes he cements his place in the Brentford line-up soon.

CHRIS MEPHAM PICKS UP FULLER'S MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD AFTER NORWICH DEFEAT Defender takes nearly 50 per cent of the vote www.brentfordfc.com/news/2018/january/fanscore-norwich/Chris Mepham's performance in yesterday's 1-0 defeat to Norwich City saw him awarded the Man of the Match prize, in association with Fuller's. The 20-year-old put in another assured performance as James Maddison's early stunner settled matters in west London. The defeat brought to an end The Bees 13 match unbeaten run at home, with Florian Jozefzoon, Sergi Canos, Ollie Watkins, and Alan Judge all going close for Dean Smith's side. Chris picked up 46 per cent of the votes, ahead of Alan Judge in second and Ryan Woods in third.

Think he needs to be on the plane to China Must surely have moved ahead of Lockyer Tend to agree, without having seen enough of either. Lockyer, in his defence (pun intended), has taken the captain's armband at Rovers (not sure if he is deputising). But according to Storm a month or so ago, he isn't having a better season than last year. We need to see Lockyer to make it to the Championship for him to be a serious consideration for the long term. Mepham has broken through at a higher level and is younger so at present, it doesn't appear a tough call. If Mepham is shifted up to the seniors, it makes room for another youngster to be given a shot for the u21s.

Considering our obvious lack of centre backs, he's got to be on the plane to China and hopefully earns his first cap.

From Sky:
MEPHAM DEAL OFF
Brentford have rejected a second and final £7m offer from Bournemouth for centre-back Chris Mepham.
Bournemouth have been watching 20-year-old Mepham in recent months, and Eddie Howe scouted him in person earlier in January.

He's just broken into the starting XI and could do with more games rather than sitting on a prem bench.

Agree with this 100% Playing in the Championship is more important at his age than benchwarming in the PL/U23s football

Saw him play against Villa on Boxing Day and he was really good, strong and good with the ball at his feet. I like the look of him getting game time in China.

Think he has to play in China, not sure how much longer Ash will be able to cut it at international level especially if he's not getting regular games as he seems to need to playn all the time or he falls off the pace

Mepham dropped to the bench. Seems strange considering the form he’s been in.

Missed the previous game with illness and manager kept the same defence. They had another win so might have to be patient.
He is having a great season and is a must for China

Mepham came on for an injury after 4 mins. Brentford kept a clean sheet with him on the pitch. Still lost mind.

Decent on the ball with good distribution from the back but unfortunately at fault for Cardiff’s third.
