Steve Cook's actually injured it seems, not on the bench. Don't know how serious, looks like a fractured wrist.

Taxi for Mepham!!!! At fault for goal. Backed off and off and invited the shot. Poor distribution nearly led to a Palace goal a few minutes before

Yeah agreed, at fault for the goal for sure. Let's hope he gets another opportunity on the weekend.

Keeper should've done much better.

It’s starting to look like moving to the PL came a bit too soon for Mepham. He has deteriorated quite a bit, mainly in confidence, and looks like a bag of nerves these days. That’s what a lack game time can do, especially in younger players. Brooks and James adjusted quite well to the step up but Mepham clearly hasn’t. Maybe needs a step back down, possibly loan back to Brentford.

Didn’t have a lot to do against Palace because of sending off but I agree with you. A complete bag of nerves

I agree he's gone backwards a bit in terms of performance but when Brooks or James lose the ball or gift possession back, it doesn't get noticed as it will not lead directly to a goalscoring opportunity for the opposition. All young Centre backs will make mistakes, it's not a young mans game playing there. I found it a lot easier playing there when I was 33 rather than when I was 23.

Agreed, he’s a young centre half. Now is the time to make mistakes and learn, he’s not the finished article yet. The fact that we have a young centre half getting game time in the Premier League is a fantastic thing. I thought he was brilliant against Hungary, considering he hadn’t played for Bournemouth in so long. Luckily Howe is a manager that won’t punish a mistake and trusts in young players.

No Steve Cook for Bournemouth tomorrow, so Chris Mepham's going to have another chance in the team at home to Liverpool.
Harry Wilson can't play against his parent club.

After a good first half hour from Mepham, Nathan Ake's come off with a nasty looking hamstring injury. That should secure Mepham's place in the side until he's back, unless he does particularly poorly as there isn't a lot of other options for them.

As soon as Ake comes off they concede, and it's Mepham's man.

Jack Simpson's had a shocker alongside Mepham.
Mepham not doing great either, but not made a major error. Same could be said of the rest of the Bournemouth defence, they're just not the same side without Ake.
He'll continue to play games, but Bournemouth could concede quite a few goals in the next few games which might not do his confidence any good.

I mean against Liverpool it's hard to really criticise Mepham, they are the best team in Europe. Good experience for him though and I hope he gets a good run in the side now and nails down a starting spot.

Ok so from the non Wales perspective, Mepham was fine up until Ake’s injury. He was then definitely at fault for the first goal, and didn’t cover himself in glory for any of the others. Not a great day at the office for him unfortunately against admittedly great opposition.
Ake is likely going to be out for a few weeks, and Cook is out until January, which means Mepham will be starting games for a while. Some of these will be alongside Simpson (who I personally rate about the same as him). I think we’re in big trouble. Not that Mepham isn’t good enough, but we now have no Cook or Ake, plus no Smith. So no senior players and leaders to help the two of them out.
Our injury list is absurd, we’ve got Cook, Ake, Brooks, King, Smith, Daniels, Stanislas, possibly Wilson all out. That’s our first choice wingers, strikers, centre backs and full backs. So while he might be getting games, Mepham could struggle badly in an inexperienced back line.

I’m so worried about centre defense for Wales Tbf these are more Bournemouth problems than Wales problems. Mepham might well rise to the challenge over these next few months. It’s just going to be difficult for him without the experience of Cook or Ake to fall back in against teams like Chelsea and Arsenal, as opposed to playing teams like Hungary and Slovakia. He might come through this a better player, or he might come through with his confidence wrecked. We’ll have to wait and see.

Done quite well in the first half against chelsea. A couple of occasions with suspect positioning, but also done quite well up against abraham who's been kept very quiet. Mason Mount has been left free in the box a couple of times and should have scored, but I would say the bournemouth midfielders are more to blame for that

Had a great second half. Won almost all of his aerial duels against abraham, made some important interceptions and was generally very assured. That must be his best bournemouth performance in what's probably bourenmouth's best defensive display all season. He should gain a lot of confidence from that

Had Abraham in his pocket today. Fantastic performance, should take loads of confidence from that- plus was playing on an unfamiliar side as well!

Can Meps please empty his pockets ...
Arsenal team bus can't leave, as they are still missing Her Ozil ...
Had one especially superb last ditch goal saving tackle, and was excellent throughout.
