Congrats to Cardiff City on promotion to EPL, tempered by the dearth of Welsh talent on show there.

For the 30'000 Cardiff fans there yesterday how about watching your local wpl or Welsh league team some cracking g games over the next few weeks. Good luck next season

Quote from Vincent Tan "... Most of the time, though, I agree with Neil's proposal and suggestions. Like me he wants to improve the whole aspect of the football club, the first team, the scouting set-up, the youth side, the training facilities. This is what we each want." www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/...rview-14623591

Congratulations to Cardiff. It can only be good for Welsh football, and Wales in general, our capital city should have a place at the top table, hopefully they stick with Warnock and build a team with better quality but within the same principles that they play now. It didn't do Stoke or Burnley any harm playing solid and direct.

Yes they changed their style, but that was because it is awful to start with and only old guit managers play it! Look at WBA when the style is attempted to change. Even look at Swansea, we haven't played like we did in the late 00s and early 10s for a number for years now.

Their way of playing was legendary "a wet and cold night in Stoke". They were not happy to to settle that this system worked for them, and they were successful. They decided they wanted tiki-taka Stoke and replaced their solid team, with average footballers, with a few exceptions (i.e. Allen & Shaqiri) - and they failed miserably.

It didn't do Stoke or Burnley any harm playing solid and direct. Agree with the principles bit for the short term for the sake of income and success. But I'm still a bit envious of Swansea and I think they have been quite smart in regard to ideals - in that they make the first team play in a way which could utilise the most technically talented players that Wales, their catchment area and their academy tend to produce. I'd like to see Cardiff have a harmony between the first team and the academy in the long term at Cardiff.

Good point Otto, that's something I'm hoping Bellamy is implementing in the development teams. Lets see what happens after a season (or more) at the top level.

I'd like to see Cardiff have a harmony between the first team and the academy in the long term at Cardiff. Yes but Swansea went up playing that way. Since they went away from those principles, they are now struggling. Swansea's success came off the back of having an identity and players and managers were brought into the club that fit that mentality and way of playing. That changed after the failed appointment of Michael Laudrup. Im not saying Cardiff can never have a team playing nice football, and to be fair they have played some nice football this season (not tiki-taka, but good swift passing and movement). Just think with the manager they have, the players they have and the lack of investment that will go into the playing squad, they will be wise to stick to what got them in the Premier League in the first place. And with the right additions Cardiff could stay up and build from there. They have a decent sized stadium which is easily expandable, have a large catchment area if they market the club well and look after their young supporters. No reason Cardiff cant stay in the league for the foreseeable future.

Cardiff aren't the horror show of route 1 football a lot of people make them out to be either. We're direct but we're hardly the Wimbledon team of the 80s
We didn't have the players or finances to play like Fulham or Wolves, so we went with a different approach. That's good management, if every team played the same way it would be boring

Newcastle United and Cardiff City lead the race for Stoke City defender By Jack Mitson
Premier League side Newcastle United and recently promoted Cardiff City and leading the race to sign Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross, according to the latest odds given out by Bet Victor.
Shawcross suffered relegation from the Premier League with the Potters this season, and has been tipped as one of many players who will leave the club in pursuit of remaining as a top flight player.
Jack Butland and Xherdan Shaqiri are both also expected to leave the club as they prepare for life back in the Sky Bet Championship.
Whilst Shawcross is expected to leave, the appointment of former Derby County and Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett could persuade him to remain at the club, as they are one of the early favourites for promotion next season.
That being said, if Shawcross does leave the club, it seems that there is a very good chance he could be moving to Wales to join Cardiff City, and they have been given odds of 6/1.
The Bluebirds achieved promotion back to the Premier League on the final day of the Sky Bet Championship season, with a 0-0 draw at home to Reading enough to seal second place.
Following confirmation of their promotion, Neil Warnock was quick to acknowledge that the squad would need plenty of strengthening, and implied that they would be looking for players with Premier League experience.
Ryan Shawcross has plenty of Premier League experience, having played 317 time for Stoke since his move to the club back in 2008.
Shawcross also played one game for England, but it is one that he will never forget. He was introduced as a late substitution in a friendly match with Sweden, and Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a hat-trick against him in 15 minutes. Consequently, Shawcross was never called up again.
I wouldn't want this thug at Cardiff.. decent defender or not

Now Cardiff City are in the Premier League it’d be nice if they changed the colour of their shirts and adopted a badge that looks like a logo for a Welsh real ale.
Just messing, it’ll be nice to see Cardiff back in the Premier League. Glad Vincent Tan seems a little less crazy these days as well.

Warnock has no record of keeping any club in the top flight. Sam Allardyce or David Moyes will be in charge by Christmas should they value status in the top flight.

I know this is late in the day but overjoyed with Cardiff's promotion to the PL, and boy did they deserve it. The Swans seemingly throwing it all away at the last minute was very disappointing - it would have been great to have two Welsh teams in the Premier League (although the Swans and Bluebirds' rivalry would have cast some doubt on that sentiment!).

There’s not been enough South Wales derbies in recent years. As a fan of neither (would lean towards the Swans at a push) I’d love to see them both as established Premier League clubs. Made an effort to watch them both on TV when this was last the case.

Academy: Young Bluebirds' Robbie Keane Cup success www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/2018/may/young-bluebirds-robbie-keane-cup-success/Over the past year, the Cardiff City Academy have increased their involvement in overseas tournaments and fixtures. Their strategy has been developed to give their young players a broader experience and allow for a clearer comparison with Europe's elite. In mid-May, the Academy's U11s & U12s (year of birth squad 2006) participated in the inaugural Robbie Keane Academy Cup in Dublin. The tournament included teams from all over the UK, along with Italian giants, Juventus. It was split into two leagues, with all teams playing each other in a winner-takes-all round robin format. Our Academy Bluebirds did superbly to win all of their Qualifying Round fixtures fairly comfortably, resulting in a place in the Final against Leeds United. The Final was a tight game, but the young Bluebirds proved too strong for their opponents, recording a 2-0 victory to become the first winners of the Robbie Keane Academy Cup. There was also further evidence of the City youngsters' progress as two of our players picked up some personal accolades. Ruebin Sheppard was named Player of the Tournament, while the Tournament Top Goal Scorer was Troy Perrett. The Academy would like to thank the very gracious hosts at Crumlin United’s training ground, and Cardiff City Lotto who funded the trip along with very kind parental contributions.

I doubt he is Welsh for 2 reasons
1. He plays for TNS
2. Cardiff are rumoured to be signing him
