Another Englishman, with an Irishman next Great for Welsh football Just having a representative at the top table is good for Welsh Football, it increases the likelihood of Welsh players coming through at a top level, and there will be more money going into development of youth at Cardiff City.

Correct. Whereas another Welshman supporting an English team is not great for Welsh football.

I also coach a junior girls team so I would say that is more of a contribution than someone who watches a side with no welsh players who play in an English league.

Correct. Whereas another Welshman supporting an English team is not great for Welsh football. I think club football is more complicated than that, many people are Welsh but grew up in England, or their parents supported English clubs and they grew an affinity with the same club, or there isn't a local club playing a decent level of football if there even is a side. TV has made it easier to support an English side than your "local" (i say that loosely) side. Its easy to be a Cardiff City fan if you live in Cardiff, or a Pontypridd fan if you live in Ponty, Taffs Well in Taffs Well etc..., but if your town doesn't have a decent football club, do you support the closest side that you have no love for? Or do you support a side you can easily watch on TV week in week out, that you grew up watching, and enjoy and feel passionate about their results (it isnt the same as being there in person every game i concur). This doesn't stop you watching multiple Welsh clubs locally and not so locally, being a fan of Welsh football, and providing support financially through this way. There is more than one way to skin a cat as they say.

Another Englishman, with an Irishman next Great for Welsh football Shock as football club signs footballers that they feel best fit their system I see Swansea brought in an English manager, where's the bitter comment on that? Or is it just Cardiff you have a problem with?

They will have another change of name soon to USW when they move back to the university

Why?
It is a massive negative for Welsh football that our capital city club won't be playing any Welsh players again this season

I agree, it is a legitimate grievance to have. I would imagine that most countries would want their main clubs to provide opportunities to players from that country. It happens with the likes of Real Madrid all the time (which has affected Bale) and there's always fuss in the English media about a lack of English talent getting opportunities. Why should Wales be any different. I want Cardiff and Swansea to do well but getting increasingly annoyed that they won't give hardly any opportunities to Welsh players and that it doesn't seem to factor into their recruitment policy at all.

You could add Wrexham and Newport County to this discussion. I wonder if Sam Ricketts will surprise us and add a couple of Welshmen to the squad. It isn't good enough really, and what incentive is there for talented local Welsh youngsters to join their local club.

If they're not good enough, they're not good enough. Cardiff are on the verge of signing Bobby Reid, one of the best players in the Championship last season, but he's English so perhaps we should go for Hal Robson-Kanu instead because he's Welsh, despite being an inferior player? It would be great if Cardiff had a team of players from Cardiff and the surrounding areas, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon
The poor performance of the academy over the past few years is a fair grievance, but to complain about Cardiff not tailoring their transfer policy to just Welsh players is bonkers

Chris Gunter James Chester James Collins Dai Brooks Harry Wilson Ben Woodburn Darren Ward Ampadu
All would improve the Cardiff team and most would be available so not having Welsh players as a token gesture
Warnock had got rid of John and Richards probably next to go. Never mind the youngsters may get a cup game

Never mind the youngsters may get a cup game Since Malky left Cardiff, none of the others managers have fancied John so Warnock letting him go was a blessing in disguise for him. If he was still at Cardiff it is unlikely he would have been in the recent Wales squads, let alone make an impact. In an ideal world, Welsh teams would be littered with Welsh players but that is not the way of the world anymore. My preference would be our players actually gaining first team experience by playing rather than making up the numbers at a Welsh club.

So none of the players I mentioned would get in the Cardiff team.
There aren't anyvteams in the EPL with no English players and when there has been the media goes nuts
Cardiff need to be a benefit for Welsh football.
At the moment they play in an English league don't have any Welsh players and make money from hosting the national team through Selling tickets Increased advertising Food and drink sales + anything the faw give them to at there.

You've just built a strawman before knocking it down. There are plenty of Welsh players at other clubs who would be available at the right price and would improve Cardiff, but it doesn't factor into the thinking at all. Cardiff have already purchased several English players where they could have gone for Welsh players of similar quality either at a similar price or on loan. Any English fan of an English club would be outraged, but Cardiff fans don't seem to be bothered.

I think an element of perspective is needed here, rather than a knee jerk reaction. It’s obvious to me that Cardiff are playing the long game in building a team that will be too good for the Championship the year after next should they get relegated. They are signing players who won’t blow the wage bill, which means that if they do go down they can hold onto them whilst still receiving parachute payments, enabling a subsequent promotion & even more money to bolster the coffers. Then they will spend a bit more on players of real Premier League quality in order to keep them up. It’s precisely what Burnley did. Now do any of the Welsh players available fit that bill? Those already at Premier League clubs will have wage demands that are too high. Woodburn would be brilliant on loan, as would Ampadu, but they are still kids & Warnock wants real experience. Brooks is as yet unproven. Bournemouth can take the gamble because they are 5 years further down the Premier League money trail than Cardiff. Joe Allen would walk into the team, but Cardiff can’t afford him, neither can half the clubs in the Premier League. So in summary Warnock has a 3 year plan & that’s going to involve his type of players playing his type of way.

Brooks scored 3 last season, Reid scored 19 and assisted 7 Bournemouth paying £12m for Brooks is bonkers in my view, I'd rather him have another eason in the Championship developing

Never mind the youngsters may get a cup game Gunter is being replaced by Reading, who finished far below Cardiff last season Cardiff already have Morrison, Bamba & Manga so signing another centre half would be a waste & Chester (despite being better than 2 of those players) wouldn't be worth breaking up a very successful central defensive partnership Collins isn't better than Morrison, Manga or Bamba Warnock actually wanted Brooks, he specifically named him in a Q&A with fans, but it was always unlikely Fair enough, Wilson would Woodburn is completely unproven in club football, needs a Championship loan Cardiff signed Smithies for £3m, probably less than Ward would cost and on lower wages Ampadu is also completely unproven Declan John was considered not good enough by Soslkjaer, Slade, Trollope and Warnock. Richards was considered not good enough by Swansea and Fulham. Perhaps the problem is the players themselves, not Cardiff City
