Chris Gunter James Chester James Collins Dai Brooks Harry Wilson Ben Woodburn Darren Ward Ampadu All would improve the Cardiff team and most would be available so not having Welsh players as a token gesture Warnock had got rid of John and Richards probably next to go. Never mind the youngsters may get a cup game Gunter is being replaced by Reading, who finished far below Cardiff last season Cardiff already have Morrison, Bamba & Manga so signing another centre half would be a waste & Chester (despite being better than 2 of those players) wouldn't be worth breaking up a very successful central defensive partnership Collins isn't better than Morrison, Manga or Bamba Warnock actually wanted Brooks, he specifically named him in a Q&A with fans, but it was always unlikely Fair enough, Wilson would Woodburn is completely unproven in club football, needs a Championship loan Cardiff signed Smithies for £3m, probably less than Ward would cost and on lower wages Ampadu is also completely unproven Declan John was considered not good enough by Soslkjaer, Slade, Trollope and Warnock. Richards was considered not good enough by Swansea and Fulham. Perhaps the problem is the players themselves, not Cardiff City Collins would be a free transfer so could add depth, but granted can see why Cardiff wouldn't need him Wilson, as you acknowledge, should be a no-brainer Woodburn would be a decent loan signing, but I agree a Championship loan would make more sense at this point Ward would probably be available on loan, so that would have been a good signing It's just wrong to say Ampadu is 'completely unproven' - he would be an excellent addition So there's definitely 2 or 3 there that are both realistic and would improve Cardiff's squad. They should be aiming to get in at least one of these so that they at least in some part resemble a Welsh club.

Signing a 17 year old to be your Premier League loanee, buying him would make sense as an improvement, but not a season long loan deal, too risky, same with Woodburn. Cardiff are reserving the loan deals for those with Premier League experience rather than buying them so we don't have to pay their huge wages when we're in the Championship next season

One thing to add, should Cardiff City’s mid to long-term future be in the Premier League, then their academy would hopefully develop lots of future Gareth Bales without the need for them to have to move to Southampton. Should this be achieved by signing lots of non-Welsh players at this juncture, then I imagine most people on this board would be happy.

Why not make a cheeky £10m bid for Harry Wilson. This Bobby Reid bloke is 25 and has only had one good season where he scored 19 in the championship last season in 46 games - 0.4 goals per game. Wilson is just 21, scored 7 in 13 last season (0.5 per game) and has far greater potential. So Reid is hardly an experienced, proven player and I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool were accommodating to a £10m bid

You would also know that being Welsh and a City fan mix as well as peas and carrots and are in no way mutually exclusive

Seems as though its fine to have a go at Cardiff but not Swansea at times...

I can’t be bothered with an argument as this site is not about club rivalries, but the above post is correct as regards Cardiff City & Wales being synonymous in terms of support. Always has been & always will be. Anyone who was in Milan on that fateful night will know that the away end was well over 60% made up of Cardiff fans. And that’s not a willy-waving exercise, it’s a fact. Same for Nuremberg & Brussels in the early 90’s. Now of late, due to Wales’ recent success, the representation from around Wales has increased and that’s a very good thing. But to suggest that Cardiff fans don’t care is either a statement made without full possession of the facts, or a malicious one. With the exception of Glasgow Celtic fans following the Republic of Ireland, if you can find me another club in the British Isles whose fans follow their country in greater numbers than Cardiff City then I would be surprised.

Declan John Its not that supporters don't care, its that you live in a fantasy land where Canton can produce 11 top players who'll compete at the top level Current wales squad: Gunter, Ledley, Ramsey, Lockyer (via County), John, Matthews and while there is a concern with amount of quality being produced by all the clubs academies atm the fact is that the current squad is probably a quarter Cardiff, quarter Wenglish, with some Swansea Wrexham, Gwynedd, County

Not sure if you're deliberately mis-portraying things here, but I don't think anyone suggested Cardiff fans don't care about Wales, but no Cardiff fans here care about the criticisms for more than likely (when Jazz leaves) not having a single welsh player in their squad. Every criticism of that is met by defensive replies from Cardiff fans. Swansea haven't been much better in recent seasons, it's just that Cardiff are in the middle of a transfer frenzy where they're bringing in several top championship level English players without seemingly having no interest in getting at least some Welsh representation.

Tbh I’m sure we all know our academy hasn’t been up to much since Tan came, due to the cut backs mainly, but there isn’t a city fan alive that can’t wait until it starts producing again, it’s good for club AND country, and it reflects the club , the supporters, the community to have more locally produced Welsh talent coming through... as for ‘choosing ‘ not to snap up Welsh talent that may or may not be available in the championship/L1/Prem U23, well we just don’t know what goes on behind the closed doors between player agents, chairmen, managers! Tbh people forget that in the last couple of years we’ve taken jazz and Huws and brought in Lawrence on loan

Problem is Trollope tried to copy the Welsh way and bring in Wales players. While it was exciting to begin with, it miserably failed. Warnock needed to come in to save the team from relegation (a worse fate for Welsh football) and brought in the players to do that.
If this season we had miserably failed again having brought in some journeymen, I'd agree with the criticism. As it is we got promoted. Now the academy can improve and hopefully we can bring through some talent in the coming seasons.
But after Trollope's failing, it's going to take a lot to convince the board that that's the right way to go. The only real criticism you can make is the failure of the academy in the last 5 years, but as fiveattheback says, this U18 side looks fairly good.

And how do you know I don’t watch Penybont FC ? You’re a bitter bloke .... quite frankly watching my local league team and my local Welsh League rugby and football teams when I can is a right of passage that I do whenever I can.... I could ask you why you don’t support Grange Quins or Cardiff City, both being your local teams from ‘where you were born’ 👍 Tbh this business of Welsh teams playing loads of English players is endemic throughout the Welsh English League clubs as well as Welsh leagues, but the bone that really sticks in your throat is Cardiff City .... Why?

So now Cardiff should just sign Welsh players as a token gesture, just so we have a few Welsh boys in the squad? If they aren't deemed good enough, or don't fit the system, then so be it. I'd much rather focus on developing Welsh players than just signing them, developing youngsters makes perfect sense from the point of the national team and having local pride, signing Welsh players just because they're Welsh is pure folly and you know it Truthfully, I'd rather see Brooks at Bournemouth than at Cardiff at present, the same goes for a lot of the young Welsh players. I'd rather they learned a more expansive style than we play, which would be of far greater benefit to the national team than watching the ball soar over their heads for 90 minutes at Cardiff

Fans of any other club in the league next season would be outraged if no one from their country played for them, but it's clearly not an issue at all for you. Looking at the last round of fixtures in the EPL, here are the number of players from each club's country in their first team: Arsenal - 1 Bournemouth - 4 Brighton - 3 Burnley - 6 Chelsea - 2 Crystal Palace - 3 Everton - 5 Huddersfield - 3 Leicester - 5 Liverpool - 3 Man City - 3 Man U - 3 Newcastle - 3 Southampton - 5 Spurs - 4 Stoke - 3 Swansea - 1 Watford - 2 WBA - 4 West Ham - 2 And you're happy next season that Cardiff will be the only team with a 0?
