Which seasons were you referring to when you said Ferguson built 4 championship winning sides around him? Honestly want to know. I am not going to write a dissertation on every utd season in the EPL. trendy, giggs was the difference between Utd being perennial losers, in the Liverpool shadow and finally eclipsing them. When he first broke through he was so good (remember, the new George Best) that the ceiling at Utd was suddenly raised to new possibilities. He was hugely influential in the first Utd title in 25 years in 1993/94, and has been so in every winning season since (in different ways). Why do you think every time he mentions taking a role with Wales Ferguson dismisses it even now? His influence at Utd has been central to their dominance. Okay, so Ferguson has never built a side around him then. Being influential isn't the same as being considered special enough to have a team built around you. Giggs has never been in this category.

Ok Fair point. But two can play at that game. Name me your 20 players you think should have been ahead of Giggs over 20 years of the Premier League.

I'll name twenty players that have at some point played in the epl that I believe to be better, more influential, players than Giggs:
Shearer, C Ronaldo, T Henry, Rooney, Berkamp, Drogba, Cantona, Schmichael, Cech, Tevez, Aguero, Roy Keane, Torres, T Adams, N Vidic, D Beckham, Terry, Lampard, Kompany, Ali Dia.
I think that all of these players have/had a greater impact on games / their teams winning trophies than Giggs ever hasd/has/will.
When I lived in Manchester, and spoke with Mancunians who had been going to games for 20+ years, the consensus was always that Giggs was a player who occasionally could do something incredible (up to about ten years ago) but whose main strength was that he was a great squad man who knew his place.

Trendy, I think we should hand this over to the others for a more balanced view. I lived in Manchester for a few years and went to OT on various occasions in the early to mid 1990s and know many Utd fans today and not one of them would agree with you.

'Giggs was present to accept his honour - which saw him beat off competition from the likes of Thierry Henry, Paul Scholes and Dennis Bergkamp to clinch the vote from a panel of experts' Obv trendy you weren't included on that panel

I'm not sure you've robustly defined the criteria for the list. Influential? Zola, Gullit and Vialli were among that first wave of top, top-class Europeans that reimagined the game in the British Isles. Without them there wouldn't have been many on your list to follow them. Aguero and Kopmpany have had fine seasons and are very good players but what have they influenced? They've had impact but not legacy. Don't agree with Torres being there either I wouldn't argue with many on your list though

Anyone but Giggs for me, the man has shown utter contempt for his country over the years and would be using us to get a big job in the future
No reason at all to believe he would do a better job than Coleman.

God. Now the idea of Giggs has been put in my head I'm warming to Ray immensely! ;D Ray is a twat, but hes not that much of a twat. I wouldn't be amused about his appointment but I would still hope that we won, Giggs however I would severely find it hard to support as his appointment would be for all the wrong reasons and for him personally would be a foothold into management (I suspect the same of Ray as well to be honest). Given how Giggs has treated us in the past I would actually want him to fail and ruin his reputation outside of us few who follow Wales regularly and have seen how he mucked us about as a player over the years, both whilst a Wales player and in retirement. I wonder if Coleman is basically caretaker manager til the end of this season when Ford will go all out to get Giggs?

In this case I hope that when Utd are playing Chelsea that the ground opens up and swallows both teams whole. Surely that is a win-win scenario?

i hope hes never given the job,he mucked us about as a player and has hid behind ferguson when the faw approached him twice (didnt they??) about taking on a role with us
its inevitable that he will one day get the job but id prefer it if a man who has shown us such little regard for us in the past and a man with such low morals never got the job

Giggs, fuck off and enjoy your knighthood, hero worship at Man Utd etc. Just don't try to pretend you give a stuff about Wales. When it came to the crunch you always picked your club, now live with your decisions andstay the hell away from our national team.

I hope we treat him with the same contempt he gave to us. Sadly I bet Ford is already on his way to Manchester to seal a gentleman's agreement that will see Giggs take over from the start of 2014/15... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23729913
