I've seen the FSF say that the best bank to use to avoid charges is the Banque Societie General as it's 350lek compared to the usual 700lek. Are the charges for these still negated with the Monzo/Starling cards? Don't mind paying it like as it's only like a £2.50 just wondering if they are. Can't recommend the Monzo/Starling enough though. Ideal for anyone doing even one Wales away. I think there's no escape from these charges, but using starling or monzo will avoid further charges from your bank. I see ah well I thought as much. Thanks. Also, I've seen this Sky Bar on the 17th floor which does food and drinks. A bit more expensive than your avergae Tirana prices of course but for that view it looks well worth it. Can't see beer prices but food seems to be on average about £10-£15 so don't imagine beer will break the bank. www.skyhoteltirana.com/

Agree, I've actually moved my entire current account to Monzo now, it provides so much more than traditional banks.

Is there a limit of £200 cash withdrawal per month on those acocunts? That's the limit on fee free withdrawals abroad yeah. So first £200 you won't be charged as you would with Barclays, Lloyds etc but after that you're charged at (I think) 3%.

Looks like it's the standard European plug adaptor for Albania if anyone was wondering. Four countries visited this year (Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Albania) which is a peoffrey record. Do England and Wales not count? 😉 I live in one and am from the other so they can’t really do! RE Money. I am in the minority of taking Euros and changing what I need when I need it whilst there? Initial at the airport to cover my taxi then change as I go along.

Any ideas why haven't heard this from FAW FAW provided this when you booked your ticket: “ID Check All supporters will be asked to show photo ID when presenting their ticket at the turnstile. For Wales fans, this must be either a passport or UK driving licence. Entry may not be permitted if the ticket holder is unable to show their photo ID.”

Yeah I've been doing the same, been consistently sunny and mid 20s for a while...until the weekend we arrive. Its going to be a chilly one, pack your bobbles.

From what I can see there does not appear to be any banks or money exchange places open on Sunday. As we are arriving late Sat ideally we did not want to change at airport at the rates are not the best. I suppose we are left with the ATMs unless someone knows of any money exchange places open on Sunday.?

ATMs generally give a better rate than exchange places anyway.

ATMs generally give a better rate than exchange places anyway. They may give better rates but FSF document say they typically charge 700lek (£5) in addition to your normal bank card charges. For me this is about £10 for each £100 changed!. I think I may change what I need for Sunday at airport then look for exchange place on Monday with better rates.

That’s my plan too. I have Euros at the moment as Albania takes them alongside the Lek. Planning on changing €60 to cover my taxi and initial spends.
I hate worrying about this stuff.

The size of the currency doesn't help. You'll need 200 to 300 for a drink in some places. It'll be like Serbian Dinar where I carried 5000 with me at best in 500 notes.

When I was in Dublin last month I was getting €1.24 to the pound ... This morning it was down to €1.10
By the look of things, next week it may well plummet further ;-(

My error I was searching for "Tirana, Banks & Bureaux de change open on Sundays" which did not show anything whilst searching now for "Tirana money exchange open on Sunday" some places do come, however strangely not all open on Sunday" From my traveling experience, to over 90 countries, all money changers (as well as actual banks) will always give the LOWEST POSSIBLE exchange rate on Saturday/Sunday. With the Pound in free-fall right now, I imagine something like 135/£ or 120/€.
I would suggest, changing something like £30/€30 at an airport exchange bureau (I think most are at Departures Hall) - thus giving you plenty of local cash to tide you through until Monday in case restaurants / pubs dont accept credit cards.
Nonetheless, prices really are very reasonable

But is that Tirana or Elbasan where the match is being held? I've got an army green cagoule I like to wear which makes me look like an extra in Awaydays! Tirana seems to be ok. Nothing I was never used to in Wales. Possible last post from me before Sunday as I get on a train to Cardiff shortly. I hope everyone going has a safe and enjoyable trip. I absolutely guarantee I'll see familiar faces from Serbia or Georgia; but also hope to see new ones too. Come on Wales!!!

For anyone stopping over at Rome airport. The pizzeria (on the right corner as you go up to the food court escalator) has stunning pizza. Massive 12inch for €7. As tho you are kissed by an angel :+)
