You could argue he did well, you could argue he didn't. The reality is, we've got a player playing for arguably the best club side in the world for us to at least be having the debate and that's a huge win for us. Neco wasn't even really on anyone's radar this time last year, and has never even played for the U21's. He'll be starting next year, and in a year's time surrounded by great coaches and players will have significantly improved by the time we kick off in Baku. Well done Neco. I can't agree with that, it's way too premature. You can't ignore the context that Liverpool have already won the league and don't have anything really to play for. There's a good chance liverpool will buy another left back and they may trust gomez and milner more for the backup rb spot next season. Last night was the first time he's been properly tested defensively, and he struggled (understandably), so let's not jump the gun. We'll have a far better idea after a dozen or so games into next season re what his level actually is, where he sits within the lpool full back hierarchy and how much gametime he's likely to get.

Started today for Liverpool despite his mixed league debut in midweek How about we try to get those two Da Silva brothers playing for us too!

Looks like he's RB today.
Fair play to Klippety for giving him another chance.

That'll learn 'em.

"Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will work "100 per cent" on finding the next Trent Alexander-Arnold or Andrew Robertson and has high hopes for "real prospect" Neco Williams." www.goal.com/en/news/liverpool-working-on-finding-the-next-alexander-arnold-or/ukn3stdcan3x1lgvxz1y9hk1mReally promising stuff. We all know how crucial full backs are to liverpool's system, both have provided 10+ assists in the league this season. So Klopp's desperate to have adequate back up should TAA or Robertson get injured. It looks like Neco will get plenty of chances to show he can provide that back up, so if he's good enough, I imagine he'll get plenty of gametime next season!

Oh dear, worst possible start. He's behind the defensive line and plays Gayle on for a goal within the first minute!

Think that’s been playing on his mind this half, been unlucky with a few touches. Everyday’s a school day, especially for a 19 year old. Just great that he’s getting these opportunities.
Unlikely, but I’d love to see him go out on loan to a championship club. Will learn loads playing week in week out against men.

Yeah agreed, he's been quite nervy and dispossessed a couple of times in good positions. Hopefully he'll get the full 90 today - if he goes though the second 45 without further mistakes he should get some confidence back.

Not to say Cooper wouldn’t have a positive effect, but I wouldn’t want Connor Roberts to be benched or vice versa. Need the maximum amount of Cymry playing first team games as possible.

Isn't Williams a right back? There was talk of him covering both sides next season. I think he started one game at LB but looked all at sea.

And there's no shame in our boys not being good enough for that Liverpool team. They're one of the best PL sides ever & Neco is doing unbelievably well to be involved!

Sounds more like an English journo asked him the question.

Silly for Hartson to even entertain that suggestion.

Really weird that it is not clear that Neco wants to play for Wales after all this time. I can't see why the hell he would hold out for England given his limited family links there, the fact he has been in the Welsh football system all the way through, the fact Trent and several others would be ahead of him, given our decent squad and the possibility of him playing in the Euros next year
BUT
Why has this question not been totally addressed already? Why did Giggs say hopefully he chooses us? Thankfully its come from Hartson, otherwise I would be really worried! Hopefully its Klopp protecting a young player from the media that has left this silence over this issue! As I have said I do not think I could take it if an out and out Welsh player were convinced by his turncourt mentor Rob Jones to turn out for our neighbours!
BTW - who is Neco's agent? Hopefully not money obsessed Barnet - the guy who asked Bale whether he'd play for England!

Just giggs and hartson showing their idiocies with how they've dealt with the question. It's cringeworthy. I'm assuming it's coming from english journos who in their arrogance believe any welsh player with tenuous english links would rather play for england, and rather than batting off the question with confidence, hartson and giggs give really mealy mouthed answers

Played in the much stronger first half eleven yesterday. Liverpool fielded a different XI in each half in Salzburg, with Jürgen Klopp giving minutes to 23 players in total. First-half team: Alisson, Williams, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Keita, Jones, Mane, Salah, Firmino. Second-half team: Adrian, Hoever, Phillips, Van den Berg (Koumetio, 68), Tsimikas, Wijnaldum, Milner, Grujic, Elliott, Minamino, Brewster. www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/406319-match-report-stuttgart-pre-season-austria
