I think he may be better suited as a RW. Nah, definitely not. He doesn't have the potential to be a top level RW, but if he can improve defensively he can still be a top level RB

Getting slagged off for that second goal now, surely that was the CB, Adrian's man to pick up? I'm a few more tweets off declaring f*cking war with these Liverpool fans on Twitter!

He’s 19 bound to have a few off games now and then I guess- even if Twitter thinks otherwise.
I think he suits the type of RB that Giggs likes to utilise tbf, wingback-esk. Plus we really don’t need another winger!

I watched the first half and thought he played well - got forward well and Liverpool were all over them. Can't have played that bad if they ended up winning 7-2?!

It was a barriage of tweets slagging him off all game, even when he hadn't touched the ball for 5 mins.
I'm sorry to say it, but this attitude towards him, and the abuse James gets at Utd screams of Xenophobia to me. United fans hated the thought of Bale joining them, and also hate the idea of Brooks joining them.

If you saw the first half, you will have seen two or three defensive lapses where he left runners in behind. It's important to be honest about these things. The second half was much worse as he was largely culpable for both goals

It's just incredibly toxic in general, plenty of non-Welsh lads will be getting similar at all these clubs. It's not representative of real life, there's a lot of traction generated by fans on twitter who don't go to games, and think anyone playing at a standard below Champions League level are shite.

It is. To be fair, a lot of Liverpool fans have criticised those trolling him. There's always a minority of idiots that will @ someone and abuse them. If I was a pro I wouldn't be on social media. Or I'd pay someone to manage my accounts.

The problem is, there wasn't a minority last night, there were hundreds of tweets.
It was reminiscent of Bale at Madrid tbh.

Neco evidently. Some people can dismiss derogatory/abusive posts and simply ignore it, however many millions more can't, and suggesting the reason for that is because they're not mature enough is dangerous. Social media is a platform that's growing in importance with regards to its influence and effectiveness across the board, but its also growing ever more toxic. It isn't going to go away, and in this age of mental health awareness those that can challenge the abusers online should. Call the bastards out on their poison.

All you are doing is feeding them and giving them what they want and the exact reason they put those comments up in the first place anyway, and who are you really challenging anyway,i'm betting most of them are faceless accounts that will get no come back whatsoever in real life anyway, some of you just seem to like the drama anyway while you pretend to be some white knight or something.

Imagine abusing a player after you just won 7-2!!
I agree with what people are saying in as much as where possible we shouldn't be feeding trolls. But tbh when something like this can happen it just shows the scale of the problem in regards to mental health and social media. And whether you challenge it or not it's still there on a massive scale. Neco deserves to be on top of the world with all his recent achievements, instead this has happened. A damning indictment of where we are at in terms of public discourse

You're a bit out of touch mate. It's nothing to do with 'feeding them' or 'challenging them'. This sort of online bullying and harassment is a genuine concern in modern day living. All sorts of people get affected by negative social media comments. And the fact that a professional footballer, who you'd assume to be immune from all that shit, is showing distress, is pretty worrying. Take Aaron Ramsey and Piers Morgan for example. Morgan pretty much led a campaign of hate against Ramsey on twitter while at Arsenal, which led to Ramsey refusing to shake his hand when they met in person.

Neco did ignore it though by shutting down his accounts til it blows over and the twitter bores move on to the next topic to moan about. I’m sure he can handle it a lot better than you seem to be.

He's not ignored it though has he? He hasn't shut his twitter account down, he's blacked out his profile and cover image as a statement. If you used twitter, you'd see this is the 2nd or 3rd game now where he's had bad abuse. And obviously he's not 'handling it' because of this reaction.

I think some of the posts on here suggesting the twitter onslaughts should just be ignored are fundamentally missing the point. This isn't the first example where one of our players have visibly struggled with Twitter abuse. Joe Rodon took his account down for a period last season.
Dan James is probably the biggest concern- every time he plays he gets criticism and ridicule. He started off last season well and was full of confidence, but a blip of form had the twitter fans on his back and he's never regained his confidence since. Some people don't seem to understand, whether you like it or not, Twitter is the main platform where fans and players interact. Lots of players do, clearly, pick up on the abuse otherwise they wouldn't be closing down their accounts. I don't think it's a coincidence that Dan James looks completely bereft of confidence and afraid to make a mistake every time he plays for man u, but is far more relaxed for us.
These twitter onslaughts are affecting players' morale and lead to a loss of form, so it certainly is relevant and a cause for concern.

Some valid points made on this thread about the toxic side of twitter. While I agree that clubs, players and twitter itself should look into serious beaches, pointing it out here and elsewhere over and over isn’t going to help.
We can ignore it by not indulging the shit that unfortunately comes with the territory of playing for big clubs. Sadly it’s the very real, ugly side of success. Probably best not to search their names when they’re having anything less than a MOTM performance if it upsets you. I certainly wouldn’t bother.
