A few caps in and doesn't have a thread?
Born: 3-12-1994
Surely this summer is the time that he needs to get a move up to the championship. Is he good enough?

Over 200 league appearances at just 23 is impressive stuff

The flip side is at age 23 he has never played at championship level or above. Worries me a little that we still have to pick lower league players.
Surely teams at a higher level have had a look and deemed him not ready or not good enough.
Hopefully he can get a move up soon

Surely teams at a higher level have had a look and deemed him not ready or not good enough. That, or Rovers are asking for so much that it's putting other clubs off taking a risk. 23 is still very young for a CB. Ashley Williams was still playing for Stockport at 23.

Comments on this forum from those who have watched him play would suggest that he hasn't done all that well in League 1, so it's not surprising he isn't being chased by a Championship side. He made one incredible intervention against Mexico, but was also badly exposed at least twice resulting in the two one on one situations that hennessey saved. I'm far more excited by Mepham than Lockyer - I can see mepham going up to the prem in the next couple of years while Lockyer will probably stay where he is.

Played against him several times in high school. His school would always beat my school in cup finals. He played centre mid at the time, and was definately a cut above everyone in our age group. He was always more solid without being spectacular but never made a mistake and did the simple things really well.
It's probably why he's been able to step up to the professional level, where more "naturally gifted" players couldn't. He has the consistency to step up, and hopefully he can step up again. However, he has already achieved more than anyone I've ever played against and hopefully he can achieve even more. Especially for Wales.

Maybe he's just loyal or really really smaet and decided regular football in his early career was way more important than sitting on a bench?

Lockyer has left Rovers as a free agent.
Rumours of championship clubs interested. I suppose he’d be worth a punt not having to pay a transfer.

Seen an interview where he says he's had offers from teams near the relegation in Championship and likely promotion pushers in League 1. He said he spoke to a few ex pros he knew and they said he would shine more and enjoy a promotion challenge than a relegation battle. So could go for a League 1 team with aspirations unless a mid table Championship club comes in for him.

Lockyer has signed for Charlton on a 2 year deal. Would be great if he can establish himself in the 2nd tier.

Tom starting the season well for Charlton and still keeping his starting XI place. Could well come back into the fold and partner Meps as per Mexico, last year? Great pic here ;-)

Scored the only goal and winner vs Leeds yesterday. Had rave reviews on twitter and on their forum.
Not far behind Rodon, Mepham and Williams?

With Chester as well, not much to choose between the 5.
Personally think Mepham and Todon going forward but Lockyer could well push them.

Lockyer has really surprised me as I'd heard he was struggling at L1 level, so great to see he's more than holding his own in the champ! A great option for us then. For me, whether he pushes for a starting spot or not should depend on his style of play. If he's a ball-playing cb, in a similar mould to rodon and mepham, then he certainly could push for a spot.

The only disadvantage I can think of is his height. Mepham and Rodon are both 6ft 5ers, while Lockyer is only 6ft. However we did have one of our best defensive records with Chester and Williams at the back, who are both only 6ft or thereabouts.

Does give us the option of playing three at the back.

If you're a good enough player at centre half you don't need to be tall. Fabio Cannavaro was 5 ft 9, and became the first defender to win the Ballon D'or in a while.

And there's certainly times, such as against Hungary playing with Szalai up front where you'd prefer a taller player. Just saying that it's not inherently a disadvantage and can be compensated for by a good reading of the game, and even power work to improve jumping.

Does anyone know what type of defender he is. He's short, so presumably not particularly strong in the air. Is he quick, a good passer, good anticipation? If he has those attributes, he may be a better partner for rodon, with some saying rodon and meps are too similar

He must have a very good leap on him.

Who did you hear that from? Rovers fans were pissed off because they knew he was leaving on a free. I imagine he may well of been protecting himself a little as well.

Does give us the option of playing three at the back. Wouldn't trust Taylor or Davies as wing-backs though. Not workable unless you clone Connor Roberts and make him left footed.

Taylor. Not for me

Same here. Davies would be fine there.
Maybe Bale at LWB? He's been getting a lot of praise for his defensive work this season.

Ben Davies left of a three before wingback. Better defender than sprinter, and better at passing/carrying the ball out than crossing from the byline. Laudrup always saw him as a future centre half.
No sense playing wingbacks when we've got Dan James.

The two Toms starting today as well as Adam Matthews ;-)
Lockyer had a solid enough game, without standing out. I really enjoyed seeing Adam burst down the right - really tried to make things happen.
Unfortunately, Adam got out muscled to the ball in the free kick leading to the Millwall first goal. Still, on this show, I'd much rather have him in our 23 than a non playing Gunts.
As for Bradshaw - disappointing for me. If he was the finisher people make him out to be, he should have got three today. Was two inches away from two tap ins, and had a (weak) header from 10 yards easily saved. Otherwise, offered very little.
