I watched the Oxford game against Coventry and, aside from a mistake right at the end, Vaulks had a good game in a system which could be compared to international football.
He's had a rub of good games at different times before for Cardiff and Wednesday but those systems were quite different to what Wales try and do.
You could argue that that Coventry game should get him into the conversation, you could argue the one mistake could nudge him down the list, but I think he's in the right place and closer to Wales camp than he has been before.

In our system the player in his position has to pick the ball up off the CBs and is crucial to the intricate playing out the back. His movements and comfort on the ball would be key. I really can't see him doing it, it's just not his game. He doesn't fit stylistically, so whilst he's doing well at what he does I just can't see him ever getting another cap

Unless he's evolved as a player, which is pretty rare, he just doesn't have the requisite skillset as has been pointed out. He would be a square peg in a round hole.

Would he be the worst option off the bench if we're trying to see a game out though or need to set up more defensively against a tough opponent?
I really didn't like the look of him when he played in that friendly against Czech Republic in 2022 but we are looking light on midfield options. With over 200 Championship appearances, he must be useful in some sense.

Under Page it's about getting a body in there to fill a space and run around. Under Bellamy it's about controlling the ball/possession. If we were still managed by the former I would understand the argument, but part of the reason Allen has been favoured for a recall is that he helps us keep the ball more to strangle the opposition

Also if you look at Vaulks' stats on Fotmob they're a real mixed bag. His tackles won stat is only 44.4%, which is only 25th percentile for his position. His duels won stat is also below average. So he's not even particularly strong defensively. Ollie Cooper in contrast has good tackle and ground duel stats as well as being very good at winning free kicks by inserting himself between the ball and his opponent. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Cooper playing as a 6 or 8 in the upcoming double header. That’s what makes Bellamy such an exciting manager - his willingness to think outside the box.

They play a weird 4-1-4-1 formation that has been termed the 'reverse mullet'. Back 4 with CB's/very defensive FB's in the FB positions. 1 midfielder (Vaulks), then 4 #10's behind Harris. How did Harris play? Shame to see the goals dry up, but how was his overall play? I saw about 60 minutes of the game, and I hardly even noticed that he was playing ;-(
