I'm still not convinced ability wise. Plenty of other noble traits but these can only take you so far. Exactly. I would never rule a player out, and it's good to hear that Vaulks seems to be finding his feet, especially as he comes across as a really genuine guy. But he was badly exposed out in Croatia, in the heat. Possession football attributes (high pass completion rate, good first touch, good in tight spaces) are a must for tournament football if you're to have any realistic ambition of doing well, and I remain to be convinced that Vaulks possesses these attributes.

Not good enough for international football.
May get a squad place so he can launch long throws into Moores head. However I hope Giggs has better plans than this.

His defensive positioning is his biggest weakness, he looks lost at times. Its no coincidence that Cardiff leak goals when he's in the side.

The problem goes much deeper than him. He's never going to be in the running for one of the starting spots in Wales' midfield if everyone's available, but I think he's a decent squad option. If he plays regularly for Cardiff for the rest of the season, I think Giggs will take him to the Euros.

Obviously Vaulks isn't the only reason but his weak defensive ability plays a big part, a facet of his game that was cruelly exposed in Croatia last summer. I shudder to think of him lining up against the Swiss in the opening game.

I don't get your enthusiasm for Vaulks. What does he bring to the table exactly? I certainly wouldn't have him ahead of either Morrell or Smith.

Sometimes, its not only about the football - think Will has character, and that goes a long way!

In order, our best cdm options imo:
Allen, Ampadu, Morrell, Huws, Smith, Joniesta, King, Sheehan, Vaulks.

Really don't understand why some of the hate towards him on here.......
He had a great debut, and has been a bit poor in other matches - but you could say the same about half the squad over last campaign.

Strange considering he's given his all as well, same with James Lawrence If Ampadu and Smith don't get more game time, and Vaulks continues as he is for Cardiff he may well be starting against Switzerland

I don't hate Vaulks at all. From what I've read he's a good character. My reservations about him are purely footballing ones. He's only played at Championship level for teams that play an unsophisticated brand of football. That's not necessarily a problem (Tomlin's a quality player from what I've seen and heard) - but when you look at his skillset it just doesn't match up to the brand of football I think we should be playing.
On Whoscored.com his attributes are: very strong on aerial duels and taking set pieces, strong on long shots, direct free-kicks, key passes and interceptions, but weak on passing and discipline. His "Style of Play" is: Likes to play long balls, Plays the ball off the ground often, Indirect set-piece threat, Likes to tackle. Some of those attributes (key passes and interceptions) would be great in any team, but to be weak on passing is a fundamental flaw in my book. Both Smith and Morrell (apart from Ampadu and Allen who are a given) are good in this department, as is Huws, and Joniesta (if playing a 4-3-3). This is a key quality in a team attempting to play a progressive brand of football. So, it's really hard to see Vaulks fitting in. Giggs may see things very differently mind.

Not good enough. Another that shouldn't have been capped I don't think you can say that given that he assisted the winner for us vs T&T. You don't have to rate him but the assist on it's own shows it was worth calling him up.

By then, I imagine that William will become a cult hero at the CCS ;-))

Way down the pecking order is harsh on Vaulks He was out of his depth in Croatia. Has he been playing well for Cardiff? Allen, Morrell, Ampadu, Smith, King, Huws & Joniesta are all ahead of him for me. He's been playing very well Allen obviously is ahead of him, same with Ampadu, but not the others for me, certainly not King and Huws

Say what you like about him - he's now a first team regular, on good form at a top half championship club.
Definitely giving himself a chance of a place.

A lot of humble pie will be eaten in June when Vaulks comes off the bench to score a 25 yard winner against Italy in Rome.
