On the verge of signing for Charlton apparently, despite interest from the Championship. Another disappointing transfer if true.

As long as they get regular first team football then I don't think they can be seen as disappointing. It's more important to get games under your belt than sit on someone's bench

It's more important to get games under your belt than sit on someone's bench Depends how you look at it. Sure, not massively disappointing on an individual level, but it is very disappointing within the context of our current midfield issues. We desperately need someone to step up. We have a fairly young player who's had a bit of a breakthrough in League 1 and received some interest from the Championship, and yet he's moved to another L1 club - hardly making a strong case for solving that midfield problem. It follows Savage's permanent move to League 1 and Ampadu (who we were all hoping would be a top player by now) dropping to the championship. Within that context, I'm certainly disappointed. It's just further evidence to suggest that we're likely to have a very mediocre midfield for the next 3-5 years with no sign of a breakthrough

It's a very depressing situation when pretty much all of our midfield options play in League One.

Up until February 2023 he was one of the best midfielder's in League One in a struggling side. It's really disappointing if he doesn't get a move to the Championship but I guess: i) footballer's take a wider look at their own careers, ii) Championship clubs may have been put off by recent injury and iii) highlights how hard it is now to move up the leagues through transfer window, especially without a Luton in the division.
Still, better to be at Ipswich in '22-'23 with McKenna than '22-'23 QPR, Reading, Wigan or Blackpool.
Just an internet rumour at the moment of course.

Minutes in a good League 1 side will see him into the Championship soon enough Go back a page or so and some people were concerned he'd end up in League 2

Terribly underwhelming considering how highly he was rated, and also wanted by Sheff Utd at one point.
The next best hope for me is Ryan Howley at Coventry. Jordan James another one, but seems he's being used further up the pitch.
I think this could be an era of the weakest midfield options we've had for decades. Worse than under Tosh. Worrying. No regular playing deep lying midfielders in the PL nor the Ch'ship.

Lowery at Pompey is highly thought of by their fans. Sheehan is a tidy midfielder. Andy King is still playing in the Championship

If he hadn't had the injury I guarantee he'd be in the Championship this season. It's unfortunate that he missed the whole 2nd half of the season, but if you're a Championship club can you guarantee him as a starter based on a good half season in League One? Probably not if we're being honest
I wouldn't rule him out though, I'd be willing to bet (injury providing) that he'll be in the Championship next season, and I'd still call him into the squad based on his League One performances last season personally
I think a midfield of Ampadu-Taylor would be very solid and would help our defensive issues a lot

Andy King is still playing in the Championship If the first two were coming into a buzzing and progressive set up and we were doing well and had beaten Armenia and drawn with Turkey I'd have be all for it but if they came into the squad now I'd bet my record collection on them doing absolutely nothing. I know you love the idea, you dig the fantasy, it's over for King though and rightly so.

True there’s not much in it for them coming back They shouldn’t have been let go so easily, terrible management

Watched him yesterday came on in the second half for Charlton who lost 3-1 to Newport County.
You can tell he hadn't played for sometime. Looked very off the pace and was sloppy at times and didn't always make himself available.
Was glimpses some good forward passes and neat tidy close play. Can only get better from here.
Impressed with Will Evans though can't think of many players who played left back to left sided centre half and then upfront/winger in the same game!

Despite the fact he was sloppy there's a bit of time to be fit enough to make the national squad. I see him as the most viable option for our midfield as soon as he gets his fitness back, given his performances for Burton last season

Manager* who brought him to Charlton sacked after 5 games.
*admittedly managers rarely have full say these days and it's usually transfer by committee.

Yeah and given that he was being touted for a Championship move before his big injury I've got no issue with him coming good as the season goes on. I don't think the change of manager matters too much

From DS apparently he's returned to the starting XI for the first time in a year and played really well
Before his injuries it looked like he was due a call up to the seniors after a really good season with Burton, but injuries have hampered him since then
As a proper ball playing 6 with some potential it wouldn't surprise me to see him get a call up again, he may already be better than the likes of Savage. Here's hoping he stays injury free and kicks on - would be a fantastic asset if he can

Blimey, not going to lie, I’d completely forgotten about him…..even after posting loads last year about him. Great bit of news he’s back, I’m a big fan of him.
I think he’s a better option than current fringe players - Savage, Crew etc. Certainly was a better player at youth level than both Of those anyway.
Really hope he manages to play consistently, we could with his physical attributes in the squad, as apart from Ampadu / James, we’re pretty lightweight in that area.

I didn't see the game, but noticed that TT (on for the last 30 mins) delivered the cross bringing about the pen in ET ;-(
