With Forest having a reasonably poor season this year, I'll be amazed if he doesn't start for them next season

Highlights here for anyone interested. He's literally involved in everything good for them. He looks like one of the most natural players I've seen come through for us, he's so comfortable dribbling with the ball & is making League One look easy at 19. He's destined for the top youtu.be/0gc1TDJpM3M

What are the rules on eligibility now? So Brennan Johnson is almost 20. He has played in 2 friendlies I have no concern about his commitment but what needs to happen for someone like him to be committed? I saw something like at least 3 competitive games or appearing one in a major Championship before the age of 21? Is that correct?
On the other hand if someone gets say 3 friendly caps and turns 21 without applying to change allegiance, are they then captured?
One of the many reasons for Ireland's demise are that Anglo's that could have a sniff of an England cap are no long interested in turning out for them.

After the age of 21 it's just a single competitive cap. I can't quite remember the rules around tournaments, but I have a feeling that if you play 1 game at a tournament under the age of 21 you're also locked in

I thought Brennan looked out of his depth when he came on. He’s still young so plenty of time to improve but I’ll be surprised if he makes the Euro squad with everyone fit.

10 minute hat trick for Brennan tonight. Get him on that plane 😉

Very successful loan spell for Brennan, who just seems to be getting better and better. A lot of competition in his position, but hopefully will be playing regular Championship football next season.
Appearances: 42 Goals: 12 Assists: 4 Penalties Won: 8

Really don't understand why he couldn't have been given more of a run out against Mexico, he's well earned a friendly start imo.

Surely must be a regular for Forest next season. Will hopefully thrive and will then be considered a serious contender for the Wales team.

Brilliant. Took a penalty as well. I think he will be a star and he's all set to be a Championship regular next season. I think he could perform equally well at that level. I think we're going to have to start fitting him in sooner rather than later. Definitely needs a friendly start

Hang on, do any of you who expect him to be starting week in week out for Forrest next season actually know the ins and outs of that club (I don't)? Do you know what his current competition is like? I think people would do well to remember the fate of the last Welsh player to do well at Lincoln - Morrell was actually their player of the season last year and look at his current gametime in the championship. It's a big step up.
Really good to see Johnson's progress this season but, again, let's not get ahead of ourselves...

So unfortunate as in my view he could've played a good part in Forest's first team this season and earned himself a spot on that plane for this summer. Maybe just out of reach for him but he's looking so good at the moment.

Its not great competition tbh, Alex Mighten is a good prospect & the same age as Johnson. Other than this its Sammy Ameobi (shite), Anthony Knockaert (on loan) and Joe Lolley. I think he's well placed for a shot at Forest's first team

I think he's well placed for a shot at Forest's first team Krovinovic and Freeman also playing in that winger/attacking midfield roles, and both on loan as well. Forest I imagine like every Championship side are going to be struggling financially to bring in any of those loan signings permanently. Realistically I think as a club they'll need to be freeing up those expensive loan options, and giving opportunities to Mighten and Johnson instead. They've got a very expensive squad, and you'd imagine cuts would have to be made for FFP reasons. The squad size, and wage bill they've got can't be sustainable in any way and the expensive players haven't proven to be worth the money. In both games against the Swans, they were let down by a lack of desire from wingers up against Connor Roberts in the air. If he's not wanted by Forest, then there'd be a load of Championship clubs that are bound to have interest. 24 goal contributions at League 1 level at the age of 19 is seriously impressive.

I have to confess, I'd never heard of Mighten. But having just looked him up, he's a 19yo with 19 games in the championship this seasons and 3 goals / 1 assist. They're impressive numbers for someone of that age. Presumably then, Forest rate him higher than Johnson, otherwise they wouldn't have kept him and loaned Johnson out.

Going in to the season they did. It'll all be up for grabs next season when Johnson comes back, because he's done better than anyone would have expected. Up until recently he's not played too many minutes though (with plenty of his games being short cameos) as he's got a third of his minutes for the season in the last four games, up until then Forest fans have been eager for him to play far more when things haven't been going well.

Johnson's form for Lincoln may have changed that. I've seen a lot of hype around Mighten but never been impressed when I've seen him play I have to say Forest's academy is seriously impressive, I used to live up there and the general consensus was the academy was the best thing about the club

Feels like Forest have been in the Championship for like 20 years now. You'd think eventually they would get promoted. Maybe Johnson can be an important player for them starting next season

Burnley and Brentford interested in Brennan apparently. A move to the bees would be great for the alliteration alone.

He might not be a starter, but he'd get some game time surely. They're a good team too. I think Brennan has outgrown Forest already. They'd shot themselves in the foot not playing him this season, he's clearly too good for League One. I'll be surprised if they keep hold of him

Really hope he doesn't go to Burnley though - they'll turn him into a rigid pragmatic footballer and ruin him. Brentford would be a good move if he's guaranteed playing time, but that might not be realistic if they go up. A season playing week in week out at Championship level would probably be best for him, be that at Forest, Brentford or somewhere else. But it would be great if Brentford went up and considered him good enough to give him significant minutes for them in the Prem.

Surely a season with a decent championship club would be the next logical step in his progression.
