I imagine this will get very busy from Saturday ...
Just a couple of tips for those that started already.
BILBAO (for the last 16 option on 28 June - has very little left. Especially no free cancellation options (if you know of any - please PM me). The cheapest option that I could find (and booked) was on Hotels.com - Albergue Bide Ona - its 10Km West of town, on the Metro system up until 11.20pm (30 mins) back from the Stadium - but if you need to get back after 11.20pm - its still on the Train line - but then its a little over an hour - €20 in a 4-bed dorm. The FREE CANCELLATION option is only up until 13 June - so not really useful ;-(
USING MILAN AS A FLIGHT HUB - it is very tempting to book the €20 Ryan Air flights out of Kutaisi / Tbilisi - but be warned that there is precious little cheap accommodation near the airport (almost all the flights arrive at MIDNIGHT) - I TRIED TEN on Booking.com/Hotels.com - and all the ones that said check in til midnight and FREE shuttle - charged extra for shuttles after midnight and also extra for checking in after midnight. Reckon on about €70 in a single incl shuttle - about €100 for a double ...
Has a great 2x daily connection with KIEV (£25 with no luggage or £37 with) and you can stay the night near Kiev Borispal for less than €20 for a double room or near Kiev Zhulyany (in dorms) for a fiver ;-)
... For obvious reasons, I have genuinely not even bothered looking at trains / accommodation for Saint Pete - cheap as chips!!

Really good post. This isn't exhaustive but this is the cheapest ways of doing each option I've seen so far: Option | From UK | Second leg | Third leg | Total | Baku > Rome > Baku | £108 | £93 | £90 | £291 | Saint Petersburg > Copenhagen > Saint Petersburg | £63 | £75 | £102 | £240 | Baku > Baku > Rome | £108 | £0 | £102 | £220 | Saint Petersburg > Saint Petersburg > Copenhagen | £63 | £0 | £79 | £142 | Rome > Baku > Baku | £35 | £75 | £0 | £110 | Copenhagen > Saint Petersburg > Saint Petersburg
| £26 | £80 | £0 | £106 |
Prices don't include any transport from the airport to town, but do include any long-distance railway journeys (e.g. Helsinki to Saint Petersburg and Milan to Rome). Interested to know if anyone gets them cheaper! I did use a few criteria that might not apply to everyone. I was only prepared to leave on the 11th at the earliest, only prepared to make one change (e.g. two flights, one flight + 1 >2 hour train journey etc.), and I wasn't prepared to travel on match-days.

RE Bilbao - loads of availability in Santander, an hour on an Alsa bus away Bilbao.

their will be loads of accommodation on air b and b and hotels when UEFA decide who books them , as in when draw is announced all the reserved hotels magically become available again nearer the tournament , don't panic book or try to guess our opponents outside of group stages .

How likely do you think it is that new flights will go on sale for the harder to reach destinations. Reluctant to book flights immediately after the draw if more will be available at a later date.

As soon as the draw was made for Euro 2016 was made I booked on the ONLY flight from Birmingham to Bordeaux on the day of the game, returning the day after. Think that I paid the hefty sum of circa. £250 return. I rock up to the airport on the day of the game and it turns out that FlyBe now had FOUR flights that day. So if the demand is there, the airlines will find a way to put them on. Whether they will be cheap, that is a different question.... Personally I think that if there are several thousand people that want to fly directly from say Rome to Baku, there will be an airline that will step in to provide that service.

Sorted the flights (returning to London on 22nd) for around £450. Content with that.
How'd the rest of you do?

... No idea how I'm getting back from the Final in Wembley to Cardiff - probably float ;-)

Tidy! I need to start booking places for the later stages. Baku's almost full up already, not booking that in advance was a blunder.

Word on Twitter is that the Finns are gutted with their draw and most were looking forward for a Jolly in the Sun ;-)

Should be enough to see in the first two games. Those who’ve already tasted Azeri hospitality, looking for recommendations to fill in the spare time. Fire away.

I don't know about that. I saw a poll suggesting 70 per cent of Finland fans we happy with group B because of the ease of getting to Saint Petersburg from Helsinki. They should have a big following there, especially for the Belgium match.

I'm doing a trip to Baku for both games there, plus a separate trip to Rome for a total of just under £600 including all flights and accommodation in Tbilisi (1 night), Baku (6 nights) and Rome (2 nights). Doing it as two trips so that my son can come with me to the Italy game. Reasonably happy with that.

Originally 380 from London thru Kiwi - woke up this morning and they want another 170 quid !!! Now got for 430 in and out of Bristol ! Just hope it’s not £600 quid tomorrow ! 🏴

I’ve just booked flights to Baku via Istanbul SAW and it’s a self transfer (2 different airlines) with baggage (4 hour layover) and then check in to the next flight, does anyone know if we need to get a Turkish Visa or has anyone had experience with this on the recent trip to Baku? Thanks

Didn't go for the football but went this summer roughly the same dates Wales will be there. Should be very very hot so i imagine most of the day will just be drinking azeri beer. Definitely recommend just walking around the city centre, promenade and walled old town. If your into museums and history and that we went to the Maiden Tower, Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Heydar Aliyev Centre (exhibitions were slight weird but still good) and up to the Flame Towers/Martyrs Lane.
Another thing I recommend if your there for 6 nights or so is to try and go on a day trip. The main one is a full-day trip to some mud volcanoes, an ancient cave drawing area, a old Persian fire temple and a burning mountain. Prices did very but on a group tour we paid about 100 manat each (~£45-50) including all admission fees and a azeri lunch. I cant remember the name of the company we used but if you look on tripadvisor or something it will show you the trustworthy ones. Something to do if you get bored in Baku or if its just too busy.
Baku is generally cheaper than you expect as well although i imagine prices will be put up because of the mount of tourists. On Fountain Square and in the old town you could usually get a meal for about £10 and Xirdalan beer cost about £2.50.
Hope that gives you some ideas.

Just a bit of advice on the beer: if you move away from the more touristy bars you'll only be paying around 50p-75p a pint In 2009 we went on a trip to see the ancient cave paintings at Qobustan which was quite interesting too.

Dont know if this is in the right thread but just some advice for those flying to Georgia and then crossing the border by land, we went to both countries in July this year and there were no direct minibus between Tbilisi and Baku as you get one to the border, cross on foot and then get in a different one on the Azeri side. If you're planning on getting the sleeper train, unless things have changed, you are unable to book the train going from Tbilisi online and have to take your passports to the central train station when youre there so just be aware it might be a risk due to the amount of people trying, especially when the Turkish fans go. Fortunately you can book the train leaving from Baku up to 30 days before on the Azeri website. Thing may have changed in recent months and they might change due to the Euros but just hope this might help you when planning.

Looking at flying to Tbilisi and then a long train journey by train. Bit of an adventure but needs must. Tbilisi is a stunning city - really worth a full day, if you have the time. The train is a 11-hour 9pm-8am job. Full luxury in a 2-bed cabin is only £24 each ;-)

With regards to Self Transfer. I assume you stayed in connections and checked in on route via a connection desk. i can remember doing this to Tbilisi.
But as this could be a week for many and you got more than hand luggage you would have to go through passport control to get your case. Then i assume you'd need visa to go via passport control.
i think this is why it states Maybe on self transfer info.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking as we’ve got to pick up checked luggage, I think we are technically leaving the airport and entering again🙄 just hoping someone else would have been in this situation in the recent trip and would know, I knew if it wasn’t for the checked luggage, I wouldn’t need one, not much info on the internet about this situation either, thanks for the replies though
