Was reading that El Papa gives a ceremonial blessing from his balcony on matchday (Sunday at noon). For those in Rome until Wednesday, they can get a free interview with him, at 10am - strictly no shorts... www.vatican.va/various/prefettura/index_en.html

Cheapish option out of Bristol for Baku if you're willing to spend a night in Antalya, Turkey.
11/06/20 Easyjet, BRS - Antalya (16:15, land 22:45)
12/06/20 Azal, Antalya - Baku (11:00, land 14:50)
£172. Obviously will go up when you factor in the nights hotel, Turkish Visa and any baggage but still reasonable and not bad times.

How are people's accommodation booking experiences for Baku going? We had a place booked but the owner turned around and trebled the prices.
Booked all but in between Baku & Italy - proving tricky to find an affordable options

They have a group of six and had a place for a full week, but still their hosts said, either pay four times more or cancel...
There are still plenty of hostels available in Tbilisi and Baku for £3-£5 per bed

Considering Tbilisi in between the games which will effectively dodge all this nonsense. Plus Georgia's diet seems to be melted cheese on bread & nice wine which I'm 100% on board with.

A word of warning for those using Ryanair into Boryspil. Since April they've been moved to Terminal F. There is no airside transfer between terminals. You have to fully clear F before re entering at D. You probably need to have well over 2 hours for that transfer. I didn't pick that up and its just cost us another £ 100 quid a head to get out to Kiev on the Thursday. Those Lufthansa fares are looking like extremely good value right now.
As for the hotels, I cant say I'm surprised, the 2 we dealt with in November were a right couple of spivs. Hoping that companies like Booking.com will make them stick to their side of the contract.

Oh, dear! Thanks for that. Used UIA three times before and was very happy with them. Also used Wizz once to fly into Zhuliany - which is a wonderfully small airport with trams and buses right at your doorstep.
Only used Ryan Air for the first time this Summer (20ish June) flying out of Kyiv, and was totally unaware of them using a different terminal. At the time there were free shuttle buses every 30 minutes (landside - from main Terminal). Can't say for sure if it was Terminal F or D... For those that will only decide a few days ahead (early June) I highly recommend having a look at www.flyuia.com/uk/en/home - as you will be more than likely able to pick up a Kyiv-Tbilisi or Kyiv-Yerevan very cheaply.
I did Chisinau-Kyiv-Yerevan two years ago for €70 - booked one day ahead and Vilnius-Kyiv-Milan for €60
At the moment, WIZZ air from Luton to Zhulyany (IEV) is £63
UKRAINE AIR
Right now, Gatwick-Kyiv-Baku Dept Tues 1220 arrive Baku 0035 with 2.5hrs wait is £228.

We're now getting into Boryspil at 1 o'clock on the Friday morning. We were going to use that GettSleep place in the terminal. Have you ever used one of those before ? If we'd been earlier then we would left the airport and got a hotel but its hardly worth it for 6 or 7 hours.

Hotel Dondar Baku.
I've not booked or had any dealings with the above hotel, yet they debited my credit card account yesterday for nearly £90.
I've reported it to my CC company as fraud and I will get the money refunded....needless to say really, but just keep an eye out for any un-authorised debits to your own Credit Cards!

If we'd been earlier then we would left the airport and got a hotel but its hardly worth it for 6 or 7 hours. I stayed a couple of times in Chubynske, a tiny village about 6km away from Borispil. Once the hotel organised a taxi for 50 grivni and once at 1am I haggled one for 70gv. Its about 33gv to the pound. About 10 mins drive.
If there are a few of you then an appt called "3 вулиця Лютнева" which is just the address at 3 Lyuteva Street costs £24/£26 for 3/4 people. If there are only one or two, the place I stayed is called Hotel Korona - 24 hour bar and restaurant (they will cook you a feast at 2am for around £5). Their breakfast is a true winner as well, with the best blinni pancakes in Ukraine ;-)

I've reported it to my CC company as fraud and I will get the money refunded....needless to say really, but just keep an eye out for any un-authorised debits to your own Credit Cards! This is from corky on facebook, ten days ago: "Baku accommodation.. Our FSA cymru members are starting to report problems with bookings they made with hotels for the Euro 2020 in Azerbaijan. We have been monitoring booking sites and seeing prices increase ten fold and more for the week we are there. This happens most tournaments and is annoying but the problems we are hearing about are confirmed bookings being cancelled with members then asked to pay more to rebook. If you have experience of this happening to you get in touch.. Also there has been one member scammed when booking an apartment had his bank card cloned and money illegally taken.. The bank fraud team are involved. They recommend you use credit cards to book as they offer more protection but it is a concern. We are going to be working with the police, FAW and our European fan organisation to see what is the best advice to offer the fans. Be vigilant in the meanwhile Ppaul69@aol.com"

Any cheap options of getting to Tbilisi on the 11th at the moment? I am struggling Ryanair 16.55 Stansted arrive Riga at 21.30 £ 49 Air Baltic 23.05 Riga arrive Tbilisi at 03.30 ( Friday ) 132 Euro's Get a taxi straight to the Red Bridge crossing. Walk over the border and jump on a small mini bus to Baku for less than a tenner. You'll probably need to add £ 20 to improve on your luggage allowances.

For those only doing Baku, return flights looking at every option now seem through the roof. Booked from Cardiff today for relatively cheap-ish, less hassle option with a stop in Doha.

Not going myself, but it looks like key to grabbing a decent price out of Baku is to avoid leaving until the Friday when prices start to come back down. If you can get a decent price on a flight to Tblisi, options can open up. A Tbilisi to Baku basic return flight, in on Wednesday 10th out on the 19th is down to about £60, but if you want a suitcase you can put an extra £100 on top of that. On the 19th, Tblisi to Bologna direct on Georgian airlines is £150 single with a 23kg suit case then it’s Bologna Rome on a train.
There are options, but as always it’s Time v Price. Those with lots of time on their hands can bag the cheaper earlier flights, whilst food and drink in Baku are probably very cheap, they may be stuck having to pay higher prices re accommodation costs over an extended period. Those who have limited time will have to pay inflated prices for airline tickets.

Hi guys, doing Luton to Baku via a 5 hour layover in Moscow. Anyone aware what the visa situation is ? Looking at Baku its 69 euros for a 90 day visit pass With Moscow not sure if anyone has gone this route in the past but as we will have hold luggage will we need to technically leave the airport and therefore also get a visa for there?
Thanks John

Thanks John I'd wait on the Baku Visa situation.....it says on the UEFA App that there maybe a simplified version for the Euro's. But 69 Euros is way too much...only use the official online Visa application...about 20 dollars!!

Thanks John There's a lot of unknowns in that. All I can tell you is that if you need a Russian visa, its an absolute nightmare. We went last August and it costs over a hundred quid and you need to provide the ins and outs of any duck's arses that you've ever come across. However I think you don't need a visa if you stay within the vicinity of the airport which I assumes includes airport hotels etc. You also shouldn't need a visa if you've got a ticket for the football but in the case of Russia I assume that means games in St Petersburg and not games in Baku. Visa's for Azerbaijan again will be linked to your ticket and streamlined and I assume less than the $ 24 dollars fee we paid in November. To be honest it was a doddle, don't go paying any arrangement site a huge fee to do it.
