I'd only watch Cricket if we had our national team.

Yeah, the ridiculous situation with England playing home matches in Wales is bringing out the Welsh nationalist in me too....

Whilst Glam play in the County Championship we won't have a national team. I follow Glam as they represent Wales IMO. I've got an egg chasing friend who also supports Glam, his opinion is Wales should disband the football team and go along with the English FA and when a decent player comes along like Giggs or Bale they could play for England! just like Simon Jones did in the Ashes winning team. I can't for the life of me understand why MANY Welsh egg fans support England at football. YET they hate England at rugby!! ................strange.

It's far simpler just to hate them full stop, no what the sport is.
The problem with the cricket though is look at England, they are meant to represent us. Yet there's loads of English players who cant even get a game as the side is packed with South Africans. If they cant get a game then how the hell are we ever going to get a game?
It's all academic now in the Sophia Gardens era.

Welsh people who support England at football and Wales at rugby are the scum of the earth. I want to rip their spines out with my bare hands and shit on their corpses.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-19240939Doesn't seem the best idea to me... the city already has two big stadiums. What would it do with a third? (with an athletics track around it...)

Sorry, should have done some research first. Didn't know he plan was to reduce the seating in the mill and put a raised athletics track around it.
So maybe it's not such a bad idea after all?

A third stadium, 40,000, would be perfect for a successful international football team (the running track can always be jettisoned post-games).
Sounds like a great idea (even though I do strictly speaking object to being in the commonwealth).

it seems more realistic than joint hosting a footballing tournament

it seems more realistic than joint hosting a footballing tournament But less realistic than staging the European Under 21 football tournament, which would require next to no investment in new venues. But the Commonwealth Games would be great to get - if the sums add up.

Why get rid of the running track? We should be looking at Jamaica and trying to emulate their dominance of at least one area of athletics. Considering our demographic it's unlikely we're going to churn out a large percentage of sprinters. But there is no reason we can't start churning out 400, 800, 1500 etc
In Wales our national past time is watching foreigners play football, when we have a sports day it last two hours, everyone wins, nobody loses and that's it.
In Jamaica it lasts 4 days, 200 schools turn up and is watched by thousands. It's not rocket science to see why they are so dominant, even more so when you consider that many American athletes are either of Jamaican descent (Richards-Ross was born in Jamaica and lived there until she was 12) or were coached by Jamaicans.
If we had a proper track and field programme in place in our schools now, then Wales could also dominate in 14 years time.

No, the money would be better used t invest in grassroots football & in order t attract investment & jobs improve an antiquated transport system that would unify Wales

It really is a bit of joke of a competition really. They basically have to beg the very top athletes to compete.

We should have our own Olympic team. The commonwealth games (and the commonwealth itself) are an antiquated joke.

I'm looking forward to the games. Sure, the best of the best aren't going to be there, but its the only time Welsh athletes represent Wales when it comes to most of the sports involved. So come on Wales!!!!!!!

The E-word still lingers over the tournament and on those grounds alone I won't be paying any interest.

Both the Welsh football and rugby teams should take some lessons on mental strength from Frankie Jones. What a fighter and inspiration - so amazing to deliver upon your very last opportuniy! After all the embarrassing drug stories, the rhythmic gymnasts have restored pride to Welsh athletics again.

Not necessarily football, but the FAW are now working with the rugby and hockey people to work on providing improved artificial pitches across Wales. I think this is a good move for Welsh sport in general and should get more youngsters involved, although something like this should have happened a long time ago. For the small size of our country, I think we should be doing more of this collaboration stuff, rather than creating a divide. www.faw.org.uk/news/FOOTBALL-HOCKEY-and-RUGBY-COMBINE-TO-IMPROVE-FACILITIES/99244/

Terry Matthews 20 years ago wanted to put an elite Academy at the Celtic Manor for Rugby and Football. I think it would have worked for Rugby but the football i donĀ“t know because our kids are spread out all over England at clubs
