That young German boy looks to be choosing England! Discussion re: Musiala here on sky sports. Interesting to hear the journalist saying Southgate has tried to convince him to stay with England by pointing at the success of their pathway in Phil Foden (3 caps), Mason Mount (13 caps) and Jude Bellingham (1 cap). Not exactly the most compelling argument is it? Especially when Germany can point to the likes of Brandt (34 caps), Sule (29) caps), Sane (25 caps), Werner (35 caps) & Gnabry (17 caps). Even if you were to compare to the game time of our youngsters England struggle - Ampadu (20 caps), Mepham (14 caps), Wilson (21 caps), James (17 caps), Brooks (16 caps), Smith (12 caps) Also seems to me that Foden, Mount and Bellingham have made their appearances for England by virtue of success at their clubs under great or youth focused managers - not necessarily by England putting their faith in them Will be interesting to see who he chooses. Seeing as he's signing a 5 year deal with Bayern I wouldn't be surprised to see him go for Germany www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxa04HPJgas&ab_channel=SkySportsNews

Musiala's chosen Germany. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56176585"What is best for my future? Where do I have more chances to play? "In the end, I just listened to the feeling that over a long period of time kept telling me that it was the right decision to play for Germany, the land I was born in. Still, it wasn't an easy decision for me. "I have a heart for Germany and a heart for England. Both hearts will keep on beating. "It is difficult to find words for what England means for me because I have so many memories connected to very positive emotions."

Chris Coleman will be on Iaith ar Daith with Owain Tudur Jones on S4C
For those of you who don't watch it - it's a show where celebrities go on an intensive Welsh language course, and then go on a trip around Wales with a Welsh speaker
Should be an interesting watch and he's bound to talk a bit about football as well

Yeah I think the new season airs 7th March - not sure when Coleman's episode is though. 8pm every Sunday from 7th March, other celebrities included Steve Backshall, James Hook, Rakie Ayola and a few others Being a learner and a southerner myself I didn't mind that in the last series - I also had a relative involved so that kept me interested. But obvs understand the need to have dialectic balance

Interestingly one of the major language learning companies (Duolingo perhaps) stated one of their biggest uptakes for learning a new language during lockdown was Welsh. Yep, just found it www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-wales-55348604

As a learner I find that I know plenty of words, but my grammar and fluency is really lacking and learning these through apps is difficult. I plan on going to Nant Gwrtheyrn this year or next year to really shock my brain into getting my fluency up, as I feel that's the only way to get somewhat competent/confident

He used what a think was a method first done by a Hungarian chap, from memory we had no books etc.

Very little text book stuff, basically he had a story which we kept reading out loud until it went in. Then he would play word association (in Welsh obviously) by throwing a cuddly toy at a different person in the class and you didn't know who was next to receive the toy so when it came you had to quickly think of a word. The story, don't know if I still have it, covered lots of different things, tenses, could, should, would etc so all this was going in just by reading the story over and over again as opposed to the way I had learnt previously which was in steps, what is your name, where do you live etc. The method of teaching has a name, after the Hungarian chap who first used it, but can't for the life of me think of what it is.

To be fair I went in with some Welsh, other people on the course came with none and made good progress. Without wishing to get political it still rankles with me that I had to pay to learn the language of my own country due in no small part to the Westminster decided school curriculum when I was young.

Sounds like the South American qualifiers will be disrupted by covid quarantine rules, as English clubs may not release South American players due to them having to quarantine upon their return. Portugal have tried to avoid this by moving their match venue but could also be impacted www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56234440

Apparently Jamaica have approached a host of English-based players about representing them. I'd heard the other day that Michail Antonio has chosen to represent them, which given his form this season is a big coup, and could persuade other players to join their effort to qualify for Qatar
Other players supposedly approached & considering a call up according to the tabloids; Nathan Redmond, Mason Holgate, Isaac Hayden, Demarai Gray, Andre Gray, Liam Moore, Kemar Roofe, Ivan Toney, Jamal Lowe, Ethan Pinnock, Rolando Aarons, Kasey Palmer
Add in the fact they already have Bobby Reid & Leon Bailey, plus a few other Championship players and they will have a strong team coming together, certainly for the North American region. I can see them doing well. Good on them for making the most of their dual-qualifieds as well
I'm sure they will forever rue the team they could have had though, with the likes of these committed to England; Callum Wilson, Raheem Sterling, Mason Greenwood, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Rose, Kyle, Walker, Maitland-Niles

I think there's a lot of draw for those players to choose Jamaica from 2026 onwards, with the World Cup moving to 48 sides. There'd now be six sides qualifiying from CONCACAF, as opposed to three plus one qualifier. Jamaica would have qualified in 2014 had there been six qualifiers, and would have come very close in 2010.
If they can get some players, and it looks like they're really close to getting a few of them in, then they'd be in a great position to qualify and play in 2026.

Always seems a bit odd to me.

Not chat as such but some well taken goals from Eifion Williams in his time at Hartlepool. Memory tells me he got called up once but didn't get on or got injured before game, can't quite remember. youtu.be/LAuXcDe4f5M

Crazy that England can afford to leave out the likes of; TAA, Bamford, Wan-Bissaka, Cresswell, Ings & Wilson. Not to mention the players they've moved down to their U21s, and not to mention the injured players like Grealish & Maddison
Wonder if their talent pool is almost too big in a way though. If I were Bamford I'd just go and play for Ireland now, he'd start every game there

Wan-Bissaka must be on the verge of picking another nation to represent, he should definitely be in there on merit.

Nowt to do with footie but whatever happened to the poster "ontheroadagain"
Used to be a frequent poster on here and a longstanding home and away fan.
Think the first time I met him was in Graz for the Wales - Trinidad friendly back in 2006.
Sad as my memory is nowadays I can't recall his name!
