Well it seems so effortless for him at times Lets pray a coach gets hold of him that can drive him to reach his full potential What is it? Is it limited, fearful coaches who don't have time for nurturing flair given the need for immediate improvements and a prosaic approach. Is it a lack of personal drive? Haven't seen much of him but he seems to have all the attributes.Remember Pat Nevin (yeah I know) raving about him after the FA Cup game against Liverpool and there was a reason why the Welsh management (yeah I know) brought him into the squad so early.Given some of the other transfers I see, am surprised that a Premier team hasn't taken him on as a project. Really hope he kicks on this season under the new manager. We could all do with some potential Welsh talent being realised.

The exceptional thing about him is his technique. He can just quickly do things with one touch - be it score a goal with a first time hit when the ball travels a bit awkwardly to him or a back heal for an assist. Vast majority of players take a touch first. This surprises goalkeepers and defenders - they just don't have time to adjust
The works on is using his physique far more and upping his work rate. He can also drift out of games.
Positively, he should surely be over his growing pains now and so can hopefully trust his body far more and push it in terms of training and work rate.
In an ideal world - Colwill, Mantando and Brooks can really push on in the next couple of years to push Wales forward, alongside Johnson, as they all have positive attributes to make a huge impact at international level. It could be an exciting time - especially if we have a good, experienced manager driving us forward.

He's the type of player that could really kick on and become a top player, but just as easily fall down the leagues and end up having a mediocre career. The talent is undoubtedly there and I've never seen any issues with his attitude. I think his struggle to date has just been the physical demands, how much he can carry himself around the pitch, the intensity in his running, and just generally keeping himself fit. I'm not sure if he has it in him, but if he can improve on that physical level (stamina, intensity etc.) I think he'll move up the gears very quickly.

He did quite quickly go from no one having heard of him at 18, to first team football for Cardiff & the Euros, and Cardiff relying on him for a season
I know he physically developed very quickly at the time, and it might just be a case of it being too much too soon for him. Hoping that's all behind him now and Bulut has a plan to fully phase him in (seems like he does)
I remember Ampadu used to have a lot of physical problems at the start of his career and he's moved past that, so I'm hoping Colwill is the same

Yes I would agree. He mentioned in his interview that he has had big problems with a toe and that seems to have settled! We have also heard of growing pains.
BTW - how tall is he? Wiki states 6ft 2inches but he looks taller than that!

I find Bulut's comments on Colwill slightly concerning - it's always quite negative, where he'll say he's a decent player but then spend most of the time talking about the improvements he needs to make. The journalists I see on Twitter that cover Cardiff were raving about Colwill's performances in pre-season, but Bulut gave off the impression that he was unimpressed. He was a little more positive after his performance yesterday, but still spent more time talking about his weaknesses:
Maybe it's the type of tough love he feels will get the best out of Colwill, or maybe he just doesn't rate him that highly.

He was pretty clear he didn't want him going anywhere on loan as he's involved with the first team and in that quote you linked he says he can be a very good player, I wouldn't worry too much

Signed a new 4 year deal with Cardiff, while his brother Joel signs a 5 year deal.
Hopefully a sign that they're both very much in the club's plans going forward.

Ramsey out tonight, but instead of giving Colwill a chance, Bulut plays another defensively minded midfielder. I suspect he'll bring Robinson on ahead of him too. So colwill continues to be restricted to cup games and the odd 15-min cameo. Very disappointing - a L1 loan would have been much better for his development.

Bulut blocked a loan move, so Colwill will have been properly screwed over if he spends the vast majority of this season on the bench.

Game's finished, Colwill was an unused sub. As suspected, Robinson came on ahead of him. 16 players used over a 100+ minutes, but not a single Welshman.
Great result for Cardiff and sounds like it was a very good performance too, just a shame that it was earned without any Welsh involvement. This match was billed as the first opportunity to see Bulut's plans when Ramsey's unavailable and whether Colwill would in effect be Rambo's understudy this season. Early days still, but it doesn't bode well. Another wasted season beckons. It just frustrates me that he blocked a loan considering how far down the pecking order Colwill is.

I only saw the second half, but thought that Huggins did really well and looks very comfortable on the ball and Colwill (on for last 30') made a few superb runs and was hugely involved in the pressure that brought about the goal (and another couple of great chances in extra time).

Played the 90 tonight, which I actually think further suggests he's fairly low down the pecking order - Bulut took off the likes of Etete and Robinson to keep them fresh for the league games, while Colwill was left on with the kids. The comments are revealing and follows a similar pattern to the way Bulut talks about Colwill every time he's asked. Compare and contrast the analysis from the Wales Online journalist with that of Bulut: Rubin Colwill was another positive for Cardiff, playing 90 minutes and was the major creative spark throughout the match. He found space, dribbled past players - which he did before laying off Robinson - and looked a cut above when the youngsters came on around him late on. But Bulut is demanding of the Cardiff academy graduate and believes he must still master other aspects of his game if he is to reach the next level. "I spoke with Rubin," Bulut said of Colwill. "Rubin, offensively, he makes good things sometimes, but still he is keeping the ball too much. So we are losing time. He is losing time and the defenders can then organise and it's too late when he tries to give the pass or shoot. "Against the ball he has to work much, much better. I spoke with him and we still have to continue to work with him to get him to that level where we want to see him." www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/erol-bulut-says-learnt-lot-27800255Cardiff have another three games coming up next week. I predict Colwill will come out of it with about 30mins if he's lucky.

Its probably a good thing that a coach is demanding he improves these aspects. just hope he can respond quickly!

I would agree if he was a few years younger, but he's 21 and into his third season in senior football. I think he's at the stage where he needs to be an important member of the team. I'm not saying Bulut's right or wrong in his assessment of Colwill, I'm just saying it doesn't bode well for his development this season where everything suggests he will have a bit-part role, not even as Ramsey's understudy, just someone who get's a 20-30 min cameo every 2 or 3 games. He doesn't even have the League Cup to impress in now. I Just don't think it's good for his development at all, and would have preferred seeing him go out on loan if Bulut doesn't rate him that highly.

Not many sides can afford a luxury player in the team. Colwill doesn’t get his hands dirty in the slightest. His tackling is very poor and his back tracking is even worse. No coincidence they conceded 5 last night.

I’m not sure if Bulut’s criticisms are correct as I don’t see many Cardiff games (something I have in common with Rubin at the moment). I think we can all agree he has ability and potential. If he’s going to kick on he needs to be playing week in week out at his age. There’s no substitute for it. He needs a loan where he’ll play regularly. Otherwise he’ll turn around aged 24 with hardly any genuine experience. What a waste.

"There is no question about the ability that he has. Now it's about how much does he want it and how much is he willing to give to get to the highest level." I posted the above quote from aaron ramsey in the thread before,in my opinion it doesn't take much reading between the lines to see he is calling him maybe lazy or maybe thinks he is better than he is,whatever he is trying to say there is alot in that quote in my opinion and ramsey never says anything negative about anyone does he so for him to say that it means something.Turns out i have been reading between the lines quita abit after all but oh well

I think Cardiff have really messed up his development.

I don't know the guy, but he comes across as being very level-headed, low-maintenance and his response to being dropped by Wales and Cardiff has always been exemplary. There was no bitching when he dropped down to our u21s, he was extremely positive in his interviews and cracked on with it. I do agree that he doesn't contribute enough from a defensive standpoint off the ball, which is obviously what Bulut is alluding to and what Morison has in the past. But I don't think it's an attitude-issue, you can see that he's just never switched on when it comes to that side of the game - the way he presses, understanding when there are dangerous breaks etc. it doesn't come naturally to him. But if Bulut thinks that's too much of a barrier to incorporate him into the team (even as a back-up), then he shouldn't have blocked the loan move. I'm pretty sure he would learnt a lot more about that side of the game playing every week in League 1 than his current situation.
