I got quite excited at the appointment until i started reading the first line of the second paragraph!!
"joined the Football Association of Ireland in 2006 where his role was focussed on domestic football, later having the responsibility of marketing the League of Ireland" - erm ok!!!

"It seems then that the FAW’s focus will now be on boosting the profile of the Cymru League, creating a buzz around the divisions and boosting attendance figures. Mooney successfully managed to raise attendances at Irish football games and so has pedigree in this regard.
As a former Irish football player, it will be interesting to see whether he will advocate the summer league approach taken by the League of Ireland. It has been debated in recent times that this approach might improve the club’s performances in Europe and ultimately the association’s coefficients.
When he was appointed as League of Ireland club promotion officer he publicly set out the task of raising attendances from the average of 12,000 fans a week to 30,000. Although this target wasn’t met, the league has undoubtedly been in a better place since."

Having someone who has worked within UEFA could prove handy. No doubt he will have directives to boost the profile of the league, but I wonder whether we will try to put together another proposal to stage the Under-21 tournament or the Women's Euros.

It can't be underestimated how important Welsh Domestic football should be regarded by the FAW. If we have a Chief Exec that puts that front and centre then it should benefit the whole setup in the long run.
Its pretty ridiculous and a bit scary that professional player development is wholly down to clubs in England and a handful which are based in Wales but are FA controlled and by most metrics other than geography, English.
Essentially, the FAW has no say over the professional player development with the exception of one club, being TNS.

If we can get the league in a good place it will secure the long term future of our national team amongst the top 30 nations. We've cracked how to get a national team with lots of talent in it with our world class talent ID. Now we need to figure out how to supplement the squad with players from our national league who are experienced, battle hardened seniors with games under their belt - just like Croatia and Uruguay do

He's targeting the Cymru Premier to be top 40 in the coefficient by 2026. Very ambitious, but that would put us at the same level as the ROI now, and would be a 10 place increase from our current position of 50

I wish him well but the presentation itself is a rehash of FIFA and UEFA buzz words. Seems to lack any really substance, there’s no ‘how’
I just hope the player pathways and scouting system gets support

I'm optimistic because the FAW have a great track record, but we'll see

If a team from the Moldovan league can win at the Bernebau anything is possible. FC Sheriff Tiraspol have caught the imagination of the football world and will hopefully inspire many.

I wouldn't read too much into that. Sheriff are an oligarch's play thing with a vast amount of money behind them. They certainly don't say much about the strength of the national league.

I’m not too against playing some games at the P stadium. Demand for tickets will be high and if they work out a way where red wall members are sat in the same areas to help the atmosphere.

I'm not against it in theory, remember how good it was when we were selling out prior to 2004. The thing is, conditions have to be perfect. Looking back, the perfect time for us to do it would have been on the back of the hype of Euro 2016. Belief was sky high. Now it feels like we're on a lower ebb, and we haven't yet sold out the CCS since being back
I can see the rationale for doing it in the Nations League, but at the same time fans don't get THAT excited for that competition, so I can't see it igniting belief in the team again (unless we were to beat a few big teams which is unlikely)
Long story short, could it work at some point? Yes, and it has. Is now the time? Probably not. I'd prefer us to use the high profile teams in the Nations League games to get the vibe back at the CCS. Once that happens then we should look to the PS

I think it's worth going back to the PS for at least one match in the Nations League if the timing of a game is right, like playing France or Italy on the Bank Hol Thursday/Friday/Saturday at 5pm.
Make it kids for £5 all around the stadium with £15 for adults with kids. £20 for normal adults (so kids free basically).
Could have a tournament style atmosphere if done right, being in June. Ask the council if there can be a fan festival in the Castle or Bute Park? Even the Arms Park.
If we draw England, I'd have liked to have played them at the CCS with their minimum 5% visiting fans (1700) and 30k of us lot, but no doubt it will be at the PS if we do draw them on the back of this.

The Spain game was an example of why this shouldn't happen, 80% of those attending had no real interest in Welsh football and the fan base bas diluted to f*ck, and the atmosphere terrible.
Like I said in another thread; We're only a small nation, you don't see Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Denmark, Norway, Hungary, Sweden, Finland etc playing in 70k stadiums. It's just not needed.
I'd much rather have a boiling hot 32k CCS than a lukewarm 72k PS - it won't even sell out ffs! You want some hostility in matches, especially against bigger nations who have the on field advantage. You're only helping them further by playing matches where the atmosphere sounds like a children's tea party.
It works in rugby for whatever reason, but it will never work in football againl. We only filled the MS/PS for a short period under Hughes, and we don't exactly sell out the CCS consistently as it is.
