It's all about timeline on this According to Rob Page this last week FAW only made aware of his Welsh links a few weeks ago. (say around the 8-12th August) Therefore it would take time for the paperwork to go thru regarding his eligibility (FIFA) (for example this would have probably come thru when the BBC broke the news – 18 Aug) The process of the Visa / finger printing for Kazan would have started for the squad in the first of week August (so the 32 players would have been selected then) My guess it would it be too late to start the process of Visa's for Kazan... Hope this makes sense Just unfortunate this time with a new player – with the Covid regulations etc But i cannot see nothing stopping a call up maybe for Estonia only (on his current form) What, you mean to tell us there's more involved with playing international football then getting a call and joining up? Honestly, you'd think from some of the comments here that it's as simple as playing for your local village team. None of us knew about him until 3 weeks ago and yet some are using this as another stick to beat Page with.

The guy is far more productive than many players in our squad. Why can’t we add him to the squads for the home games and just get him involved ASAP ? George Thomas will never be much use - he is another Simon Church. We need to move on from mediocrity quickly when we see a player producing with seemingly much greater potential. Sorba is not only productive, he fights and is a big guy at 6ft 1inch. We lack physicality. Makes no sense to delay. Do we have any indication he wants to play for us? Does anyone have official confirmation as to why he was not picked for the squad? I heard the 3 week visa thing but that is the same for everyone? Based on his Twitter .. very passionate about the national team. Quite refreshing to see!

Yeah, and it was back in 2016 too - way before he could have conceivably thought that representing Wales would be a possibility. So must be 100% genuine. His Newport mum must have made sure he knew his roots growing up!

Colin Murray imploring Wales to pick him on TV last night.
Two assists and one goal for Huddersfield.

Is it too late to draft him into the current squad if someone drops out through illness/ injury/ whatever?

Can't do any harm for Page and the other coaches to have a look at him close up at some point soon. Could prove to be a surprise package.

I find it incredibly frustrating that Page hasn’t called him up for the home game. He’s lighting up the league and offers a much needed option given the withdrawal of Brooks now too

He’s lighting up the league and offers a much needed option given the withdrawal of Brooks now too FAW were only made aware of him a few weeks ago and it’s too late to get the paperwork/visas done in time. He’d definitely have been called up otherwise and he’s almost certain to be in the next squad. As he is unable to take part, maybe we shouldn’t have announced that he was eligible until after these games had finished

Surely there’s been enough time to submit paperwork from When he was found to be eligible and the game at home next week?

Surely there’s been enough time to submit paperwork from When he was found to be eligible and the game at home next week? No idea, and unless you've had direct experience, you probably don't either. It depends on FIFA signing off on it. I seem to remember it took Moore over a year to be registered because of some administrative challenges with proving his eligibility. It should be easier for Sorba given he qualifies through his mother, but I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a good few weeks/months to jump through FIFA's hoops

What a bizarre opening line How so? You asserted that a month must be long enough to register an international footballer - my point was, how the hell would you know?

You can’t go by YouTube highlights but I think this lad is worth a shot. Kieffer Moore is the reason why we need to look at these guys like Sorba and Christian Doidge

Kieffer Moore is the reason why we need to look at these guys like Sorba and Christian Doidge It's not YouTube highlights, statistically he's got the highest assists and is one the biggest attacking threats in the league. Huddersfield fans adore him. He's got one hell of a delivery.

Having Sorba as a LWB and James at LW would frighten most teams. I'm very excited by this lad. I think he *could* have a similar effect to Chester when we called him in. Imagine we could put a team out like this...
Ward Ampadu-Rodon-Davies Roberts-Allen-Ramsey-Sorba Bale-Moore-James
That's actually a team I could see getting a result in the final game against Belgium. Whether we will be able to name that, let's see. But that would excite me

I'd like a 3 man midfield with Ampadu sitting in front of the defence against the better sides This of course assuming we don't get 13 withdrawals

Ramsey & Allen are positionally aware & can play balls forward for the counter so has to be them in my view. We need 3 at the back against Lukaku who is a monster now

We need 3 at the back against Lukaku who is a monster now I see your point and agree, Lukaku's a frightening prospect, but for me having Ampadu in a defensive midfield role can help shield the defence and prevent balls into Lukaku whilst also allowing Ramsey to go slightly further forward. Having a player occupy the space between the midfield and defence should stop the balls coming through so easily to the striker Although I agree, either way Belgium will have loads of the ball and we'll need everything to go our way to get a result

The beauty of having him is that we can start out with him in a back 3, and push him forward if it's not working much like how Denmark use Christensen. He's such an asset

Lots of talk about paperwork like it’s a given this guy is a nailed on squad member in waiting but I can’t recall seeing anyone say the player himself wants to play for Wales. Is there any evidence for this?

For those of you on twitter. Get asking the man himself, whether or not he runs his Twitter account is anyone's guess, but worth a try. www.twitter.com/sorbathomas

I went on his Twitter feed and he was tweeting about Wales during the Euros and no-one else. I think he wants to play for us.

Quote from Sorba when asked about his possible international career:
'My mum was born in Newport. If I keep doing what I am doing, I hope I can achieve one of my personal goals and make my mum happy'.
Good lad. The hand that rocks the cradle. I am sure that the mum is typically the decisive factor in family allegiances!

We're not going to win this group and are unlikely to finish second, so we need to use the remaining games to get the likes of Sorba Thomas, Jack Vale and Dan Williams blended into the squad before the playoffs!

Sorba yes - should start as a wing back and we should be using that system as first choice now
Doidge no thanks
