He's definitely Championship standard. Coventry defenders were manhandling him, went off at 4-1 up and it was all Coventry then on with a player down. Shouldn't really judge him on one match but we've all wanted to see him test himself against better opposition.
He's a personality. Always the star of the show as he makes his presence felt. A lot of our supporting players seem like rabbit in the headlights when they come on and play not putting a foot wrong. I would love a player who's more than happy to take a risk and get slated for it when it goes wrong than be a cog in a machine.

Didn't do particularly well in League 1 though We've got a younger player who is doing outstandingly well in League 1 this season, he should be getting a call ahead of Mullin he left before the season started in league 1, the only other time he played there was when the season was cut short because of covid (Tranmere) He was sent out on loan in January 2020, the season was cut short in March

It has to be expected that perhaps the biggest thing to hold a player at his level back (apart from the skill cap of the opposition of course) would be how international level affects his normal decision making. It’s a far bigger stage than an FA cup tie at Coventry that could catapult his career onto an even bigger one in the way it did for Keiffer and result in him trying too hard or being too conservative.

The irony is that on the previous page of this very thread I pointed out that it’s you who keeps bringing Bradshaw up and here you are doing it again only a page later. For someone who goes round the forum making light of other people talking about Bradshaw you seem to bring him up more that anyone else! It hurts my eyes to keep seeing it to be honest cus there’s just no need to keep doing it I promise I won’t mention him again for another six weeks, after which I’d better comment to bump his thread up because that thread goes very quiet when he doesn’t score. …and that sort of thinking is exactly how threads on strikers with only 3 caps reach 20 pages 😛

Being loaned out by a side that was eventually relegated isn't a great sign is it?
I've no issue with Mullin getting looked at, but the hype is massively over the top considering there are players scoring at a higher level getting nowhere near the same level of attention. People saying stuff like him definitely being Championship standard is massively over the top considering his record at League 1 nevermind the Championship!

I don't think theres anyone knocking them in with the frequency he is though, or that type of player in the squad
24 goals in 28 games this season 28 goals in 39 games last season 34 goals in 50 games season before that

In non-league though. Aaron Collins has 13 goals and 10 assists in League 1. The level matters and considering Mullin's never proven himself in League 1 (and 2020/21 aside had a poor record in League 2) he should absolutely be behind a player who's 3 years younger and doing very well at a higher level

Aaron should get a call up aswell, it could be useful to maybe reinstate a couple of b internationals to encourage these players and see whose out there
Mullins 34 goals in 50 games was in league two, he was also player of the season for club and player of division that season, aswell as same in national league last season

Surely him and Collins worth looking at against the likes of Armenia and Latvia?
You only ever use half your squad in these international windows anyway unless there is a friendly or serious injury problems half way through which is unlikely. Realistically they'll never get any minutes but there is a potential opportunity to bring them on if scenario in time is favourable. Along with just having a closer look to see if they can challenge amongst players playing at a higher level.
Croatia an absolute non starter, but no harm potentially bringing them on IF and big IF we are comfortable against the likes of Latvia during the tail end of a match.
Not suggesting we make wholesale changes but there is definitely scope with experimenting with calling up three or four places of the 23 to 26 man squad to lads we could have a closer look at.

You say that, but how many Welsh strikers can casually chip a keeper from 25/30 yards like Mullin did a couple of pages back? There’s a base level of talent there that looks a cut above most of the usual lower league dross.

The friendly slot should be specifically used to play somewhat weaker opposition and to call up fringe players. The problem is that fixture is quite far off, who knows who will be in form when it rolls round

A lot of people on here seem to want Mullin called up more than they do Bradshaw, wtf hahaha.
Agree with fiveattheback, I don't mind him being looked at, but there's a few others ahead of him atm.
I thought he looked a bit slow/off the pace against Coventry and not at the same level of fitness as the Championship side, as did most of the Wrexham team which is expected.
But he's clearly got a good touch and technique, and fitness/speed can be worked on so I don't doubt he can make the jump one day.

I'm 100% down for Collins and Mullin getting a call up if needed, both could potentially contribute to the team for the next 5 years, with Collins possibly longer. Our forward options at the World Cup were pretty bleak, after Kieffer and Brennan there wasn't anyone I looked at and thought that they could actually do anything, as much as I obviously wanted to believe.

There’s a base level of talent there that looks a cut above most of the usual lower league dross. Most professional footballers probably, I've seen Will Vaulks chip a keeper from the halfway line. He's clearly better than the level, but it remains to be seen if he's good enough for League 1, nevermind the Championship as some are suggesting he is. Lee Trundle looked like great in League 1, but he wasn't good enough for the Championship, same for plenty of other players, so until he can prove himself there then he should be behind players playing at higher levels. A lot of people are demanding that we choose players who are playing and want some kind of rule implemented that if you're not playing regularly then you shouldn't play, well shouldn't that apply to the level you play at as well? If you really want to play for Wales you need to be playing at a certain level and looking to get there as quickly as you can

I think when discussing whether Mullin is worthy of a call up I don't think what level he is at ie. Championship should be the main thing we consider, it's if he's a better or different and worthwhile option than any of the others, like Mark Harris or.....and that's the issue here, after Kieffer and Brennan it's just largely a cluster of Championship guys that don't score goals getting selected like Harris and Roberts. Collins and Mullin should be close to a call up I think given how bleak we're looking up top.

Again though, who is Mullin’s competition? I keep saying it without much acknowledgement that there aren’t any Welsh goalscorers out there playing at the level some seem to demand.
We can continue to pick the likes of Harris and whilst he might get down the line alright one thing we know he isn’t going to do is score. Where else do people suggest the goals come from, especially losing Bale? Brennan and Kieffer are now the only two players in the entire squad that one can have any confidence in finding the net. Not good.
Perhaps the player that should be looked at most closely based on level is one Ched Evans - but we all know he’s not going to be called up. So that leaves very very few credible goal scorers. Jack Vale? Playing at a decent level but no goalscoring pedigree. Bradshaw? Notoriously inconsistent. Tyler Roberts, NOT a goalscorer. Harris? Ditto.
So who? Now we’re into the weeds of league one and two (a level Mullin has done very well at).
In terms of players with a recent goalscoring pedigree Collins and Mullin look the best option (Ched aside for obvious reasons). It’s far from ideal but the trick is that if either of them click it could springboard their career. Despite all the hype about Collins’s numbers there’s been zero rumour about him and as he and his family are staunch Rovers fans he has said that he is happy to stay at Rovers for the foreseeable future. Mullin too seems happy at Wrexham for family reasons. So at some point it looks like we have to go to their level rather than wait for them to get to the level we want.

Yeah, as fiveattheback has already said, practically every professional footballer is capable of pulling off that type of quality. The only thing that separates those at the bottom of the pyramid with the ones at the top is the consistency with which they do it.

Also interesting that Mark Harris was at Wrexham for a bit, and Mullin looks a far player at that level than Harris did. Alright, you could say Harris has 'developed' since then but I don't really see it
At the end of the day if we needed a goal last 10 mins against Latvia or Armenia, would anyone in this forum back Mark Harris over Mullin to get it?

First of all Mullin isn’t athletic or fit enough right now. Secondly let’s just compare for a second… Bradshaw: age 30, 106 career goals, 43 in the championship, 42 in league 1. Mullin: age 28, 136 career goals, 0 in championship, 3 in league 1, 69 in league 2, 44 in the national league. It would be an absolute farce and a joke of Mullin was called ahead of Bradshaw at this moment in time.

Post by cadno on Jan 19, 2023 0:42:48 GMT
One game to be fair. Compared to the Coventry players he was well behind their pace, athleticism and fitness levels, as were most of the Wrexham team. This can potentially be built on obviously but at this moment in time imo his biggest disadvantage is that he isn’t as athletic or fit as someone like Mark Harris. The comparison to Lee Trundle above was a good one.

I wish I was unfit enough to the extent that my three divisions higher opponents only got a foothold in the game after I’d gone off.

Haha come on mun. That’s football for you, you can nullify opponents even if their fitness levels and athleticism are levels above you. Fair play to Wrexham for that, he was tired for a while before he went off as the commentators pointed out at the time. And sorry but he was never at the same pace as the Coventry players, that was clear to see. I agree he’s talented and worth keeping an eye on, but a call up before Bradshaw would be beyond ridiculous right now.

No it’s not, he wasn’t at the same pace as the Coventry players, simple as that. Good player though!
Edit : maybe I’ve been harsh and it’s just the impression I had at the time haha. But it still remains, we have a player with 40+ goals in the championship and 40+in league 1 , surely he deserves a call up before someone 2 years younger that has 0 championship goals and 3 league 1 goals.

I have watched every Wrexham home game this season and Mullin is very fit, he also helps out at the back when needed and saved us conceeding a goal v Bromley 3 days after the Coventry game, Wrexham already have the same amount of coaching and fitness staff as Championship clubs, there are 6 full time employees in the fitness area alone, with the head having been poached from Ipswich. we overrun everyone on fitness in the national league proven by the amount of goals we score in the last 20 minutes. A couple may of looked off the pace at Coventry late on as we rested some players with knocks and used ones that had not played as many games that had been on the bench mainly.

Any decent Welsh prospects at Wrexham we should get excited about?? Jordan Davies still young has time to improve and progress, went to Brighton but didnt make it far there, scored i think 18 goals from midfield last season, currently injured though Kai Evans one to watch coming through, nephew of Steve Evans
