So is age catching up with him especially after that pretty bad injury he had, that would knock anyone let alone someone that has to perform at a good level athletically, pity as I think he is a natural goalscorer but I just think he was to old maybe,if only he was 24 now he'd be leading the line for us,of that I have no doubt

Out for the foreseeable after undergoing surgery. Might explain why he wasn't called up for Gibraltar. Sorry to hear that, hope he recovers soon.

The Bradshaw rumours make a lot more sense all of a sudden. From the club's statement: 'Mullin underwent surgery in London in the middle of June to ensure he is fit for the majority of the 2024/25 campaign'
That wording to me suggests he'll be out for a hefty period, possibly returning around November time with no preseason behind him. Think that might be the final nail in the coffin as far as any lingering hopes of making an impact at international level goes...

Doesn't Billy Bodin have more league goals this season than Mullin? Probably, seeing as Mullin has only played 15 minutes or so.

Looks like a tidy finish but I can help but think it took a little nick on the way in which is why the keeper was rooted to the spot. Either way, I'm glad he's back and I hope he can prove himself at League One level and show us that he's a cut above that because at his age, where we are and where we want to be he's going to need to.
Kieffer, Brennan, Harris all ahead of him for the central role right now in my eyes. Can't forget Bradshaw either and Koumas could yet prove to be the answer or an answer.

Just to add some balance as his fantastic goal in the cup game a couple of weeks ago rightly got highlighted. He started at the weekend and was largely ineffective from what I've read (and judging from the extended highlights - of which he didn't feature). Marriott seemed to do more in the last 20 than Mullin managed in the first 70. He had similar struggles at the beginning of last season after missing the start of the season (he's in effect still in pre season now), so hopefully he'll manage to turn it around like he did last year. The big unknown, however, is that he's never done it at League 1 level before whereas last year he'd already smashed it at that level a few years previously. Either way, he's probably already ran out of time to make a case for the October games and probably running out of time to show his credentials for November too. Bellamy has been lukewarm about him when asked in some of the interviews I've seen, so I really can't see him ever featuring for us personally.

In reality he blew any chance he may ever have by willingly dropping down two leagues to join Wrexham in non-league when he was approaching his peak.
Only now is he back at the level he would have been aged 26 and the top scorer in League Two and part of a promotion winning side.
A 27 year old scoring goals in League One is a different proposition to a 30 year old.

He’s had three years in the spotlight, been well paid, is more of a household name, and scored more goals than anyone whilst earning two promotions. Not sure about anyone else, but that sounds much better than if he had stayed as a journeyman League 1 player.

Yeah absolutely agree he’s made good decisions for his own personal gain / career (that’s not meant as a dig btw!), but I don’t think he and those who want him to play for Wales can have it both ways - to say that he was absolutely right to drop down to the conference in his prime (essentially missing three years of playing at a decent level), and then complain about not getting a call-up. Mullin made a dig at Page before, which I think was pretty poor given it was he who made the decision to prioritise other things (earnings, family reasons - however commendable they may have been) over playing at a higher level and his international prospects.

This is the modern day dilemma facing players and other sportsmen, they can sacrifice ambition and love for their sport or take the opportunity to earn wealth and a lifestyle that would not be open to them otherwise. Is it good that you get uneducated kids from an impoverished background driving round in Porsches etc. is open to question, but that's how it is.

People like Hennessey have taken 100+ caps and 15 years to get that many pages on here haha.

So while yes he’s more on the Welsh public’s radar, I’m not sure how much buy in that gets from the FAW setup when they were already monitoring his progress. I’m sure 20 goals in League 1 while he was 26/27 would have increased his international prospects more than becoming a cult hero at Wrexham smashing in 30+ goals in non-league. Bellamy has already made clear that he’s not really being considered currently because there’s such a difference between Championship and League 1 football - that was my interpretation of the answer he gave on Mullin during the event in Anglesey anyway

You'd think Bellamy himself would be aware of this more than most considering he was still a top half Premier League quality player when he dropped down to the Championship with Cardiff the first time... I admit the ship has probably sailed on Mullin now considering we have a few young strikers of his profile with decent potential, but I do think he could still be a useful player for us, and I believe he would have made a positive impact in our in the Euro qualifying campaign (particularly against Armenia) had he been given the opportunity then.

Quite a difference there between someone who'd spent 10 years+ at the top dropping down to the Championship (partly for altruistic reasons) to someone who'd never delivered at League 1 level. Bellamy's big into his stats, he's very big on high intensity running and always references how the Championship is statistically the 6th most intensive league in the world - I have no idea where League 1 would sit, but I imagine it's way down the list. That seems to be a really important factor for Bellamy in his decision-making - think he sees it as being key in allowing him to get us playing the way he wants. In a parallel universe, where Mullin decided to stay with Cambridge or join another League 1 club (there were options), he may have smashed it at that level, moved up to the Championship at 28/29 and show he can cope with the pace and intensity at that level, therefore earning himself a call-up. But that's not the world we live in - Mullin still hasn't made any impression at League 1 level nevermind the Championship approaching his 30th (for understandable reasons this season), so he and others can have no complaints if he never gets an international callup imo.

Wouldnt mind getting his career advisor like Oh lighten up, it was a joke. I’ve said before I don’t blame anyone for taking the money, although I draw the line at picking a benchwarmer who took the money as your starting goalkeeper if you’ve got other options.

Can you remember specifically what he said? First time I’ve heard this. I’ve been a big advocate of giving him a chance but that’s pretty off of him if true. As you say it was Mullin’s choice and whilst I don’t agree with Page not giving him a go you can also understand why he wouldn’t select him. It’s hardly that much of an egregious decision.

To be fair, I think it was as much about Page's honesty (or perceived dishonesty) as having a go for not being selected. It was in the build up to the Gibraltar game in Wrexham if I remember correctly where journos were asking Page about Mullin, and he said that they were keeping close tabs on him and that he was on their stand-by list. I can't remember how it then came up with Mullin, but he made a 'it's the first I've heard of this' type of comment, which I think he was implying that Page was bullshitting and perhaps he was expressing frustration around not getting a look in. Just looked it up and came across this: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67273359 To be fair he's fairly gracious in his comments, although does question some of Page's comments, and then I'm pretty sure he made the comment mentioned above after this article came out

I don't know what his mindset regarding a Welsh cap was when he was at Cambridge but it's possible that his time at Wrexham has made him much more interested.
Or to put it another way, it's possible that he was on FAW's radar while at Cambridge (this is now known) but we weren't on his.
We will probably never know.
