Finally booked our trip after getting all group game tickets + 1st knock out today in round 4. Staying 14 nights in Muscat, Oman.
Matchday flights booked for all games with near perfect timings and same cost £200, as economy match day flights from Dubai.
Return flight to Muscat from London City, change at Munich, with Lufthansa £430.
Hotel on full board, 20 mins from Muscat airport, with a pool and 2 bars, £1400 for 2 of us.
So I reckon splitting out my wife’s cost, as she gets a wonderful holiday full of kulcha, which keeps everyone happy. It’s £1,700 + match tickets.
If we get through the group, she’ll fly home and I’ll sort out party plans !

Accommodation in Doha is not as expensive as many thought. It’s roughly the same as Dubai hotels plus the shuttle flights and transfers so save yourself the hassle Not the same quality though Some major event is going on that makes it more expensive due to demand.

Each to their own I’m sure those staying in other countries will have a good time as well. If anyone wants to stay in Doha and have the full WC experience, don’t get put off, there are decent options available.

Everything seems booked out from the 20th to the 30th? Only a twin converted shipping container or 5 star hotels available? I'm having to search for 2 / 3 days at a time. Genuine query not having a pop. Also think the site is not used friendly or working well on my phone which doesn't help. I think my budget might stretch to a room in a 3 star hotel but just not seeing any hotel availability for November outside of the ridiculous 5 star ones.

The problem is the accommodation seems to be drip fed onto the portal. I've just looked now for example and there's a Ramada hotel showing up for $370 a night (compared to the shipping container at $200 a night). The other day you could get a bed and breakfast room on a cruise ship for $340 a night. Some days the apartments are there in the $300 a night category The reality is there isn't really anything cheap in Doha and I can't really see that changing as they lack capacity vs the number of people expected in the country for the World Cup.

Yeah it's pot luck at the moment. That's why I booked with Wonky Sheep in the end as whilst it's more than sorting everything myself it took the hassle out of it all

But at least I'm seeing availability again...you really have to be lucky and time it right.

Ive been away on a family holiday and time to plan has been short, had I had more time and done more research it’s something I would have looked at. Some of the resorts in Ras Al Khaimah are also offering decent deals for AI and I know there are a fair Welsh fans staying there. I’ve bitten the bullet and gone for Dubai. Junior and I are staying in the Wyndham at Dubai Marina for the first 2 games. We've got shuttle flights with flydubai and Qatar, times aren’t great but we were away and didn’t have internet access so it was a case of beggars can’t be choosers. If anyone wants to look at sharing a taxi/ride to the airport from Dubai Marina drops a line.

If anyone wants to look at sharing a taxi/ride to the airport from Dubai Marina drops a line. I initially looked at Ras al K, but was put off by the distance to DWC airport and the potential hassle and cost of sorting each leg of the journey. Then I booked the Riu all inclusive in Dubai, but like yourself couldn’t get any reasonable shuttle flights. Cancelled the Riu. Muscat came up as an option after trying travel permutations everywhere from Cyprus, Bahrain, Baku and Cairo. I just happened to put Muscat into the Qatar / Fly Dubai matchday flight planner and loads of flights were available for each game. In an ideal world, we would all have found decent digs in Doha, but the qualification route put us at the back of the queue unfortunately. Given the venue and restrictions, everyone committing to the cost of going needs certainty, that flights out there and accommodation are sorted. Hanging on in the hope that something may become available in Qatar at an affordable cost, didn’t look a great option, when Muscat ticked all the boxes.

There's stuff coming through all the time. Just managed to get a twin for the first 3 nights in a licenced hotel with a sports bar, pool etc fairly central for very little more than the cost of the cabins. And the 2 nights either side of the England game on the Europa in a inside twin for a little bit more but you do get breakfast with that. Just the middle 5 nights to sort out now.

I've still got 5 nights to sort between the 23 and the 28th and there's not much available. The cabins are sold out on 2 of the 3 sites for the night of the 26th. I'm sure something will crop up. I notice this morning that the cheaper internal twins on the Europa are back on sale for the first 3 or 4 nights. On the subject of the boats do you think they'll selling their beer at the MSC normal price of £ 8 a pint or put it up to reflect the prices elsewhere in Doha. Asking for a friend, honest.

Only hope is that because the cruise is being officially sold through FIFA, the government might relax the sin tax laws slightly just for a month, as has been rumoured to be happening in the fan zones. I imagine any announcements around alcohol will come quite close to the tournament, truth be told I think Qatar will be quite happy to dissuade people who travel away more for the session than the football. Intrigued to see if there will be drinks packages available on board the ship too as per a usual voyage.

Just been having a look at the possibility of attending other games but most games are showing as unavailable and the ones with low availability are only showing availability in wheelchair or easy access sections. Does anyone know if the majority of games have now sold out or can we expect more tickets to go on sale at some point?

Loads of cat4 tickets still available but only to Qatari locals, hopefully they will be made available to the rest of us if they remain unsold.

No idea about FIFA tactics, but UEFA in the Euros held back the cat4 tickets up until match-day, and I managed to get into three games for €25 - with tickets bought that same day.

There's some really tight dates for accommodation. Around the first weekend is looking particularly bleak and then again in the days after the England game, through and into the knockout. I thought I might try and take that as it comes. If we get through try and book while we're out there but that might be easier said than done. Does anyone know if there is there much more accommodation to be released ? Still need to fill a couple of nights.

They told me there are no all inclusive offers on either ship and the bar menus will be different to their normal offerings. ( no doubt more expensive!! ) money grabbing gits.

I just missed out on the cruise ship for the last 2 days of my trip. Tried to add to basket alongside another hotel but it only let me add one at a time. By the time I booked the first one it had gone.
Kept looking for a few days but nothing new came up so booked the fan cabin @ free zone as its close to the airport. Even that's sold out now on those days
I'm sure more will come up but didn't want to take any risks.
