Sounds like it will be much easier just to stay in Qatar. £100 per night for an apartment is a lot cheaper than I thought it would be.

I'm assuming all the cheap accommodation will have gone by the time Wales fans are in a position to book anything? Can England fans already book their tickets for games?

Has anyone mentioned Bahrain as an option ?

Your best bet is Abu Dhabi which is a lot more accessible for flights and plenty of hotels etc. lots of western style bars with happy hours to keep the costs down. Plus it’s a lot nearer to Qatar than Dubai is. The flights between Abu Dhabi and Qatar aren't great, in our night games you won't get a flight back to Abu Dhabi and although it's about an hour's flight, the cost is around £750 return! Forget the flight option. It’s a 5 hour drive so doable by coaches ( no doubt plenty of fans staying there so plenty of coaches/ mini buses etc) . prices have began increasing since I booked about a month ago so I’d book sooner rather than later

Has anyone mentioned Bahrain as an option ? Its always been uppermost in my thoughts for the main reason that sense would eventually prevail and they would put on a small passenger boat for the very short crossing. But after reading articles in the last weeks about how the Qataries are in full scale negotiations with the Iranians over them hosting thousands on Kish Island I've realised there's little chance of it happening. Shame as it would of sorted much of the accommodation shortfall at a stroke and the logistics of not transiting Saudi would be an enormous advantage. Providing there's organised transport I wouldn't mind the UAE. So you get back at 7am but if you've got not much to do, then it's not a big problem. Organised transport is the key though, I wouldn't want to driving over there. I do however want to be somewhere I can have a drink and relax.

Even without the crossing from Bahrain, it looks like it’s comparable distances to drive round when compared with Abu Dhabi or UAE?
Does that make it a direct comparison of where is best place to locate/stay if distances are much of a muchness?

There's a lady, Claire Hopkin (lovely girl), who lives here in Dubai who posted this on Linkedin;
World Cup ticket holders and fans!
I have been working with local hotel groups and airlines to build packages for fans to stay in the UAE and to be chartered to Doha and back for the football games. I have excellent hotel rates throughout Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah, ranging from luxury to budget.
These have been created with the group B EUR teams in mind, Wales/Scotland and Ukraine. This group won't be decided until June, (please be Wales, sorry Ukraine and Scotland), so I now have a solution for the fans who will be subject to late qualification.
These packages are open to other fans from other countries. There is a major caveat for the flights. I would need to have enough fans from that particular country or day to fill either a B737ng or A320 and ALL must have tickets for their game.
If you need just hotel rooms in the UAE, do also let me know, and I can supply the brochure. I have group rates.
For further information, please email: arabiangolftour@gmail.com

Travelled with Wonky Sheep for the first time to Baku last year and despite being a bit put off by their prices for the average away trip, I must say I thought they were fantastic for Baku. Got us there safely direct from Cardiff and completley took the stress out of the trip with regards to the covid restrictions at the time.
They have sent a questionnaire out asking for expressions of interest with options like cruise ships mentioned. I'll be looking forward to their offering if we qualify and wouldn't hesitate going with them again to Qatar. Love the idea of a chartered cruise ship in Qatar full of the red wall! Now that would be fun!

It is quiet city in the North of the Emirate but has plenty of Hotels and Resort (with Half-Board to All Inc options). Its a cheaper alternative to Dubai/Abu Dhabi, and alcohol is a lot cheaper and easily accessible (I stock up and do my booze runs there). It is also seeing a lot of re-development coming soon, where there are building a Wynn Casino Resort, which is due to be open in 2026. www.timeoutabudhabi.com/hotels/wynn-resort-ras-al-khaimah-uae

I think it's longer than 30minutes for the ferry, it is 230 Nautical miles away but i'm no expert on the travel time for the ferry as that information is not readily available. Either way, if you are staying outside of Qatar it will take a minimum of 6 hours to get there without expensive flights.

I read somewhere that a ferry would take 6 hours from Kish Island but they're arranging 400 flights from the new international airport on the island. All that while doing nothing to aid travel from Bahrain which is little more than a stones throw away.

Does anyone know how many tickets there are for the competing nation associations ? Clearly these will be set aside for those nations who qualify late but do you think they will hold back any accommodation for those fans or will it be just tough shit.

I haven't seen it publicised anywhere but knowing how FIFA seem to operate I strongly suspect it'll be tough shit in terms of accommodation EDIT - I wonder if FSF Cymru will know?

My advice is book some accommodation in Abu Dhabi ( free cancellation) at least that way you have somewhere to stay and no cost if you need to cancel.

I can recommend Traders Hotel for those thinking of doing this. A really good 4*, beach, pool and of course, a bar. We always book a Club Room *Edit - just had a look on Booking.com, it's not as cheap as usual....no surprise though perhaps.

I have been in contact with one of my suppliers and I can get a day trip charter flight from Cardiff to Doha for a little over £1,000 per person per match. No accommodation required, land the morning of each match, fly back home a few hours after the final whistle and use much less annual leave.
If you are interested in being on the 'potential' list, please send me an email with how many people are interested and I'll see if this is worth pursuing for us. Only space for 188 fellow supporters.

By the sounds of it, it's a few hours flight over, go to the game, and jump straight back on the flight? So it's essentially a £1.1-1.2k ticket for each game. I can't see that being an option for many.

How much extra will you spend on accommodation and food/alcohol and, for those in work, how much annual leave will you have to use? I accept it won't be an option for all, but it's certainly an alternative option to consider.

An interesting article here talking about the numbers of official tickets available to England supporters at their game. Apparently their allocation is 2339 for the game with Wales/Scotland/Ukraine. Presumably we'd get the same, and all 3 of our matches would be at that stadium so that might be the standard allocation that we can expect. www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/england-tickets-world-cup-iran-26836607
